Come on Top Gear :o:o

hahaha! or record one and watch the other - best of both worlds! That's the problem with you young guys that don't need sleep - you lack the capacity to think, and thus, the use of some reasonable logic coupled with current technolgies, is lost on you! :P

Nice meetin you yesterday Rich

According to a few of the guys from the MLR that were in the studio for filming the EVO takes it.

Sadly... that doesn't surprise me... Given the choice on equal prices... I'd probably take the evo..... If!!!.... it was as reliable as the scooby... :o

Been discussing this with a few folk recently and IMHO Subaru has lost the plot.. Ok yes... design the Impreza to target then wider market! fair enough.. But..Dumb it down and you loose your HUGE cult following.. Also with UK issues of road tax and rediculous fuel prices.. Does Joe public really want a 25-30mpg 4wd hatchback that'll cost them £100's in road tax? Not a car for the UK at the moment.....

Whereas the EVO wins on looks alone... Despite similar running costs..

IMHO...

P.s. This comes from a Scooby "Fanboy"

25-30mpg ......... yeh right, try 7-22mpg and thats more like it

The new scoob I'm sorry to say is truely horrific looking, and I owned a bugeye, and no matter how well it drives its always gonna look cack. The evo will whip the scoob as it always has, I love scoobs ( well upto and in the hawk) but the evo is a faster beast, and doesnt understeer ......

Performance and handling wise, the New Subaru is a good match for hte Evo with no understeer when the diffs are set properly.. But to get the most of it you need a decent driver who understands how it all works.. Whereas the Evo is jump in and drive.. If your a bad driver it don't matter as the Evo will sort everything out for and make you look like a driving god. Despite the fancy diff in the Impreza, it's still down to mechanical grip rather than electronics.. Which is a good thing in my book!

But on looks.. I prefer the Evo. It's just got a much better stance on the road.. Part of hte problem is the SUbaru has moved forard internally but on the outside, it's blended into every other car on the road..

Give the Impreza a decent agressive body again and I'd love it to bits!!!

P.s. I love the impreza from the front! Not got used to the hatch side view, and I absolutely hate the back end! Also the whole styling is round, curvey and soft.. Where's the agressive lines!!

WoooooHoooo

Scooby 1 Evo 0

LOL yer kiddin..... ooh look MORE understeer.

To be fair was good to see it quicker than the evo for once even if it looks like a smashed buttock, now if it didnt handle like a kerb magnet it may be a good car.

Would have been good had they compared equivalent cars, rather than a standard STi with an evo X FQ360, which sells for approx£11k more - might have given a more balanced view - hang on though, forgot it was Top Gear, they don't do balanced, they do entertainment (which I don't have a problem with, just sometimes they get carried away, thinking they are actually motoring journalists).

Was fun to see that the comparable evo X was beaten around a track by the STi - that in my mind, is the big news from that report

They did use the STI with 300 bhp against the normal evo which also has 300bhp for the time trials.

Yeah, agree with that. TG is all about making a caravan out of paper mache or seeing if a car can go around the world faster than someone in Bolivia can flick a snotter. Silly nonsense most of the time, but I do still like to hear what they have to say about cars when they actually feel like doing that. Saying that, I missed it tonight - DOH!

Simmie - As I said "Was fun to see that the comparable evo X was beaten around a track by the STi - that in my mind, is the big news from that report "

Wonder if they'll redo it with the PPP (when it arrives) ?

Will anyone care ?

wouldnt give up the blobeye!!

The STI doesn't look great in red so visually the EVO won it. A few seconds here or there round a test track mean nothing to me (nor does the Top Gear opinion for that matter), looks first, everything else second IMO. Great episode though with the RS6 and Merc.

What's with all the red scooby bashing !! :o

To be honest, the new car's rear end doesn't look good in any colour.. The silly lexus lights clash with everythign except maybe white.. Black looks good until you get the rear end then you see this silly looking christmas tree at the rear!...

What I did think was odd and possibly deliberate was that this tiem the scooby was in red and the Evo in blue... Hmnn.. :o

As I said earlier in this thread, the Subaru will feel better once you get a driver that understands how to drive a car rather than havign a numpty drive and evo where it sorts it all out for you. And in my defence look at what the Stig managed with it!! Evo's are for people who can't drive properly! (In an extreme /on the limit sense... I don't want to get lynched on the way home)

With all of these options to drive with arn't they missing something!!!!

yep... Simplicity...

Despite jeremy's fumblings AFAIK the Impreza has one button.. same as it's had for years on models where a DCCD is fitted. It's the same control as it's always been.. it's just now more intelligent.. Which means it's overcome it's biggest drawback.. understeer.. if driven properly, the new impreza should effectively have no understeer.. But I do think it needs a decent front aero package to keep the nose attached to the ground..

Most of the time you'd leave it in Auto anyway unless your loonying around or on track...

Unlike the evo the Impreza gizmo is a driver aid whereas the evo sorts everythign out for you, leaving little for driver skill.. IMHo

The test was a LITTLE biased towards the EVo.

As a subaru fanatic, (and an EX-EVO owner) i have to say that subaru have hurt their image with the new shape. The EVOx does look better however you look at it.

Now the Evo-x full power model is 70 odd hp more that the scooby, and des track a little better, and from experience, the EVO is always going to be a better track-day car in standard trim compared to a scooby in standard trim. The scooby is a much better ROAD biased car, with better sound, better engine, better mechanics.

AND!! when they test the equal EVO to the Impreza, the impreza is quicker round the track!

In all honesty, and going on looks alone id choose an evo now.

HOPEFULLY subaru will see the error of their ways, forget trying to beat the impreza on power etc ect (they dont need to!!) and bring back some resemblance of looks for the 2009 model!

Just my 2ps worth!

EDIT to say, did you see the launch from the line? the subaru launched like it was a rabid dog after the postman, the EVO decided after a moment that maybe it should start to speed up!!!
