thewelsho Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Hi Folks I have a dead battery which means I have to bump the car everytime I turn it off. Took it to the dealers and they dont have one til Monday. This would be ok, but I am at KH on Sat and REALLY need a battery! Is there any way anyone can lend me a battery? I know its a weird ask, but It's either that or getting a bump start everytime I leave the pits on Saturday! If anyone can help I can pick the battery up tomorrow afternoon or night. Much appreciated!
johns Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 John, try a breakers yard. Pretty much all Subaru's use the same bettery size/type, and you'll be able to pick one up for very little money compared to a new one. Should last a few years. I did this with my 02 Sti when it's battery failed. £10 was all it cost me!

If I can't get sorted I might just go down that route. although, I wouldn't know the first place to look for a breakers...
scouk Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Depending how duff it is, it may be worth getting a charger and leaving it overnight to see if it holds any charge.. Could save unneccessary embarrasment at knockers!

thewelsho Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 Jump leadsmakes the pits more exciting Certainly will, but I'd hate having to go cap in hand every 20 or 30 minutes asking people to bring their car round to where my car is etc. Plus, I'd need to get a jump after the driver's briefing, haha!
Double Zero Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Not holding a charge from the alternator, so an overnight charge wont help, besides, I don't have one. Give Charlie at Grieves in Camelon a fone they usually have a lot of stock in. Tel- 01324 605 100 Stevie

zeolite Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) Get a power pack. About £40 from Halfrauds or any motor factor. Can charge from the mains or even the cig lighter output so you can charge it when on the move. Very handy thing to have about. Does bump starting not knacker cats? Here's a good price power pack Edited June 26, 2008 by zeolite
Midnight21 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Would let you have my battery cos my scoobs has been sitting doing nowt!!!!! BUT 1. I live too far away and 2. Eventually my Scooby being dropped off to get the exhaust fitted on Sunday night for Monday morning Sorry
G.Mac Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Tell them to take a battery out one of their show room cars and stop peeing you about!!!!, cant believe a main dealer does not keep stock of a couple of batteries does the main dealer sell vauxhalls dihatsooooooos and the like? if so it is to be expected of that dealer Graeme
C_WRX Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 IF somewhere like Grieves have one in stock and it is a covered via warranty then just take the Falkirk one and cancel the other one ?
thefastone Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) Does bump starting not knacker cats? I believe that it does if you run them over... Edit: I'm sure that they would be pretty Knackered too if you were making them push... Edited June 26, 2008 by thefastone
thefastone Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 On a more serious note, those power packs I think would be the way ahead for you John, I needed one the other night when my battery was REALLY flat... hooked it up, and I was able to start the car in seconds... and if you have a full charge in it the night before, you should be able to start your car as often as you like...
superstar_tradesman Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 If you still have a cat in place bump starting is not good for it mate.
nkwrx Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I have one of the power packs John, clearly you'd rather have a battery but if all else fails power pack is there if you need.
bobbyc Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Scoobies seem to eat batteries the tracker & alarm just kills them, so much for modern technology, number of times Iv'e went away on holiday & came back to dead car ended up buying a small trickle charger off Dunc & just leave it connected if I aint usin the car too often, OK if youv'e got a garage I suppose, but these power packs are definately worth investin in, Hope you get sorted John lookin forward to seein the new stripes at KH
chrissy Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 if it turns out you need a new battery john let me know as i keep loads in stock at work. chrissy
thefastone Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I know I may be asking a silly question here, but is it definitely the battery thats goosed? and not something like a power drain, or bad earth etc...? you use the scoob pretty frequent dont you John, and i assume that its not all tiny journeys you make... You've had a good bit of work done recently, is it possible that somethings been disturbed along the way that could cause the battery to discharge? have you changed the stereo too? (I think that the one that I just fitted may have drained my battery when I was away) I'm guessing that you've looked at this already, but just covering the bases...
thewelsho Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 Tell them to take a battery out one of their show room cars They don't have any Scoobies mate I have one of the power packs John, clearly you'd rather have a battery but if all else fails power pack is there if you need. Thanks Kev. I am getting a loan of a battery though, but thanks for the very kind offer Hope you get sorted John lookin forward to seein the new stripes at KH Me too. I'll need to pop all the blisters out of the stripes if you are going to look that close I know I may be asking a silly question here, but is it definitely the battery thats goosed... Defo the batt mate. Took the car in to the dealer and they did the test on it. It's been iffy for a while. Had to bump it at a meet one night after sitting outside the car with the radio on while we were eating chips; rather embaressing!
