Sweet Nick dude, would like to see the pic, but won't be on the net for a couple of days face-icon-small-sad.gif

Hope Boro Babe's not reading this LOL face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-smile.gif

Mind she may have calmed down by the time I see her face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-smile.gif

Evening dudes, Cally is cooking dinner now face-icon-small-wink.gif Got her trained well face-icon-small-happy.gif

(Awaiting a bat around the head....!)

Jim dude can remap your existing chips if you want? Go back to standard and work your way forward if you see what I mean first dude.

I think it could still be a fuel pressure reg. When I come over will have a look for you dude.

Apexi Power FC as Dave says is the mutts nutts. THough if you can afford it the GEMS rules dude. Got that fitted to the STI8.

THe standard ECU is a mappable thing though and I have all software and programmer to do it mate. Describe when it happens? THrottle position/Revs/Speed etc?

Could be worth trying on one of my ones I guess dude. Or if nothing else you might be able to look at the maps on them and see if you think they're too agressive or whatever. At least that'd maybe answer the question as to whether it's the chips or something else causing the problem.

I was planning on going back standard ECU and even using the standard boost controller/solenoid instead of the EBC.

Probably won't go for an aftermarket complete ECU after all as I need to get things like tyres/coils/possibly a regulator etc.

We'll see anyway.

How's things anyway buddy?

Good I hope. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Can someone train my wife for me dudes...face-icon-small-happy.gif LOL

Oh dear dudes. I think all is not well again!

Just disconnected the EBC to run on the normal boost control circuit and went for a bit of a spirited drive up to the creg & back.

Well I noticed the other day she'd used some water up, but after ragging it only a small amount I noticed even at about .75-.8bar boost it was knocking, and then the top hose blew off the rad!! It's not the first time this has happened since fitting the donor rad as the pipe at the top is fair weak and a lot smaller than it should be but I'm worried that maybe I've a head gasket problem now.face-icon-small-shocked.gifface-icon-small-sad.gif

I'm reasonably convinced it is Andi.

Pretty sure that the rad pipe has only blown off when I've been giving it a bootful and that shouldn't happen because the pressure in the coolant system should surely be the same regardless of how you drive.

I think when the head gasket goes it's ok until it's under boost, then pressure seeps from the combustion chamber into the coolant system causing things to get highly pressurised & do things like this.

At least that's my understanding anyway unless anyone else knows better?

Bugger though as the engine only went in last May. face-icon-small-sad.gif

Iam so sorry to hear this Jim dude.....You have no luck with you cars face-icon-small-sad.gifface-icon-small-sad.gifface-icon-small-sad.gif Let me know if I can help M8

Well I think it's bad but she still drives fine enough. I'll just have to resist thrashing her until I can afford to rebuild the motor or get another one etc which won't be for quite some time I think.

That's assuming I'm right but I think the symptoms are fairly obvious unfortunately.

Not sweet Jim dude face-icon-small-sad.gif If you need a hand extracting the engine let me know m8 face-icon-small-wink.gif

Cheeky git! face-icon-small-happy.gif

Cheers for the offer dude. I doubt I'll be doing the job for a good while yet anyway as she still drives fine as long as I'm not ragging her, so I'll wait until the strange rover is on the road again so at least I have some spare wheels to use, and hopefully a few quid on one side for bits.

At least I can stick in a new clutch at the same time and maybe a few other nice goodies..... Any suggestions dudes?

This couldn't be caused by something stupid like a sticking thermostat or something could it?

Have you tried revving her whilst holding your hand over the exhaust? You are supposed to see quite a bit of water coming out if the HG has gone IIRC.

You got wireless sorted yet dude?

Posted

Haven't done no. Sure Neil could try that as I'm seeing him later on.

I'm going to fit a new thermostat and probably a brand new rad anyway and see what happens then.

If I've to go to the aggro & expense of an engine out then I may as well do bits like that as well so best to try them first just in case it's just them...

Morning dudes face-icon-small-smile.gif

No worries will do Jim mate face-icon-small-happy.gif

Head Gaskets? If it is might have some WRX heads around later will check. Off top of my head gasket set is around £160 I think. Will check later for you mate.

Im up for L Day 2 no worries. Engine in and out within a day I reckon easy peasy! If I come over I got an engine crane and engine stand if you need one matey. Plus I got a new electric impact gun so you can get the heads of within 15 mins face-icon-small-happy.gif

Themostat I would try first mate. £15 max. Check hose connections etc and make sure no air in the system by squeezing the rad pipe. Clutches are £100 to you pal approx. Got an AP Paddle for £50, use with standard pressure plate and it is all cool face-icon-small-smile.gif

If you tell us when you can have some cash for it mate we will all help out and will do a custom map on the same day face-icon-small-smile.gif Get rid of boost controller bit pointless TBH.

Morning dudes! Thank crunchie it's friday. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Cheers for the offer Andi mate. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Jon - cheers matey, I might take you up on those various offers dude. Are WRX heads any different really to the legacy ones? I know the oilways are better as leggy owners put WRX heads on to cure tappet syndrome but is there any performance difference or anything?

Can get a crane easy enough if need be, and if the engine DOES need to come out I can undo everything beforehand to make it a quick job. Must get myself an impact gun. I could use an air wrench but my compressor is a bit knackered.

I will get myself another thermostat and rad, and see if anything magically cures then. Then if the problem is still there and I need engine out again it'll probably end of March as I'll have just got me bonus! face-icon-small-happy.gif

No problem Jim dude. Have various sensors lying around that will bring with me too!

You still have your old inlet right dude? Sometimes the rad pipes have been known to go porous too.

Jag is sweeeeeeeet Andy got loads parts yesterday face-icon-small-smile.gif Get pics up later face-icon-small-wink.gif

Mornin dudes.

I still have access to the hotel workshop/garage if needed with car lift, engine hoist, welding gear etc and lots of space.face-icon-small-smile.gif
