scoob fae ork Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Well i had a near miss today. Working on my Scooby in the garage i had the car jacked up for a bit while i cleaned the wheels and calipers. When i was done i put the wheels back on and dropped the car down with the front wheel coming to a rest on a block of wood as the car is too low to get the jack out otherwise. Before reversing out I wanted to check there was nothing underneath the wheels. It was as I walked behind the car I noticed it coming towards me! It pinned me against the garage door with the rear bumper - bending both knees backwards causing a hellish amount of pain and more than a little panic when I discovered the wood was in front of the wheels, stopping any forward movement I though this was not the best time to be home alone, my fiance being at work. I found then I was lucky enough I had my mobile in my pocket which I managed to get to... but only just! I called my mum who arrived as fast as x2. She pulled the block of wood from underneath the car and we pushed the car forwards, thankfully taking the entire weight of the car off my kneecaps As I gained my composure and got the feeling back in my knees to my horror I noticed I had bent the rear bumper which is by far the most distressing part. I learned a few lessons from this - always put the damn handbrake on and if you manage to get trapped by your car try and make it against a stronger part of the bodywork to avoid dents! So that was my day. Anyone have anywhere they can recommend to fix my bumper?!
4Hero Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 You almost kill yourself, and bending the bumper was the worst part you say Crazy, lucky guy! Glad you are ok.
scouk Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 You almost kill yourself, and bending the bumper was the worst part you say Crazy, lucky guy! Glad you are ok. My thought's exaclty!! Yeah glad to hear your ok mate! Just goes to show how easy things can go horribly wrong no matter how much care you take! Hope there's no lasting injuries...
andy Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I'm with the other guys on this one! If it hadn't been the bumper that took the bend it would have been your body and you might be in hospital right now. I'd buy a lottery ticket if I were you!
sczscoob Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 It's actually something i've thought about a few times while being under a car. What if??? Can't be to careful when your working alone and it's a lesson learned to have a mobile phone very close to hand! Glad your ok. Pity about the bumper though!!
thewelsho Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Wow! That was a lucky escape, can't be too careful. I was changing wheels recently and the car rolled forward and toppled the trolly jack! It was on a decline on my drive and I was lucky I didn't have a hand near it! Handbrake was on but the back wheels where jacked up, such a stupid a55! Glad your ok, and thankful it was only your bumber that needs repaired, that is a lot less painless than a couple of broken knee-caps!!!!
euan_r Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 lucky boy yeah ive done similar knocked car off axle stands when undoing a very stuborn bolt. lukily i had standard jack in position as well and when it couped the threaded portion jammed against fuel tank. always use cement blocks as well now.
Double Zero Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 lucky boy Man how lucky were you,i would not be moaning about my bumper if i were you ,your lucky you had your fone to hand or it could have been your leg's that would have got more than a dent Stevie
scoob fae ork Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 I have to say tho it scared the living shmit out of me im just glad my mum answered her phone and got to the house in the in the time she did because i dont think i could of stood the pain much longer than i did. Thank god she drives a scooby lol she told me she was doing over 100mph after my frantic phonecall. Just hope to hell it never happenes again. Have to say my knees are a bit sore tonight .
andy Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Glad your ok, and thankful it was only your bumber that needs repaired His BUMBER needs repaired?
Bailey73 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Crikey mate, watch yerself.... ....it scared me crawling under the car to change the zorst with it only being supported by 2 portable ramps - The only thing that made me smile was if I had an accident then it would have been death by scooby.... cannot see a better way of going.lol
scoob fae ork Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 His BUMBER needs repaired? Erm not sure about that but me bumper needs fixed ???
colzo Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Think yourself lucky mate, hope you don't suffer any problems later on. As for your bumper that can be fixed but I know that you look after your car and will be gutted!
gus the bus Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 jeeeez lucky escape min Dont think the bumper would be my first concern tho. Take it you have had the knees checked out at the hospital? Mrs Bus had a similar one last week getting trapped between a friends horse and a straining post in a fence. One hell of a mess Didnt look too bad @ first but turned oot pretty nasty So, worth getting it check out
cullenmin Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Thats a scary encounter you've had mate, main thing is that your ok. And your mam drives a scooby...Quality Rich
scoobyiain Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Your bumper should just pop back out mate. Someone reversed into me in tesco's car park yesterday and left a huge dent in the bumper. Luckily popped out no problem and no cracks in the paint.
Guest Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 one of my mates parked his car outside his house which is pretty much on the flat. As he walked away the car started moving forward so he decided he would stand in front of it to stop it and it kept rolling and ran straight over him breaking his leg. It is funny to laugh about it now but it could have killed him. I also know a guy who works for Peugeot and he had taken delivery of a brand new 206. It was coated in mud because it had been on the transporter so he washed it and then parked it up. As he walked away it rolled off the forecourt across a main road and carried on 300 yards down a side street in between parked cars on eigther side of the road and it went straight through the house at the bottom of the road. Also rather funny
scoob fae ork Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Well guys have to say thats my knees all back to normal still a wee mark on one of them but hey its somthing to show for the pain .
