...hell do they work it out?!

Here is my recent rundown of insurance costs that I've had to swallow: Standard MY99 UK Turbo 5dr that I traded in for my 2007 STi Spec-D cost me just over £1000 to insure a year ago, the Spec-D cost me £540-ish to insure this year and I've just had a quote for an STi Type-R Version 5 at......... £2400. :boldblue:

Looks like I can cross that off my list of possible replacements. Haha.. to be fair, it was just a quick quote I did on confused.com so I havent given Admiral a chance to tell me what the difference it'd be over the Spec-G but going by that, its looking doubtful that I'll be sitting in a 2dr Impreza drivers seat anytime soon. Just mental.

Cheers,

Grant

A sign saying: "Keep the Spec-G". :driving:

Have you tried A-plan and Keith Michaels? Since I moved onto the Turbo, they have been the best for me...

Direct line had always been good for me also, but they wont insure an impreza without a tracker... oh, wait, not just any tracker... Seems that Tracker retrieve is not good enough... (Which I had fitted when I bought the car...)

Haha, you're not bitter about that Tracker thing are you mate... you could never tell from your reply anyway. :boldblue::driving:

Welsho, yea... you could be right... however, we'll see what happens as there is meant to be a guy coming from the South Coast of England this weekend to look at the Spec-G so I'd be surprised if he isnt impressed and it doesnt go.

Steve, thats awesome, I've never had a quote under £2k for a 2dr Impreza and it doesnt seem like the Insurance Gods are going to smile on me now either.. lol, I'll give Admiral a buzz and see what difference is over the Spec-G until renewal time in January 09, och, it'll maybe give me another wee chuckle if nothing else.

As a type r owner I feel your pain.

The problem isn't that they're that much more to insure, it's that so few companies cover them.

Me - I'd like a quote for my subaru please, do you do jap imports

Ins tosser - Yes sir, we specialise in them

Me - Great, it's a type r

Ins tosser - A type UK?

Me - No a type r

Ins Tosser - Ooooohhhh, a type ra

Me - No, a TYPE R

Ins tosser - Is it defo an import?

Me - click

Try a real specialist like Keith Michaels or A Plan for a realistic quote from people who know what they're talking about.

Insurance companies just seem to think of a number, double it then times in by 3 and theres your quote, ha ha :driving:

Before the Scooby I had a 1.2 Corsa (with bodykit, etc) cost me £900 insurance. Got the Scooby and it costs me £769.

I am through Tesco insurance, and although they will cover me, they wont cover me for theft until i show them that a tracker has been fitted and send them and approved notice. The car is only worth 2k!

Tesco's insurance is in with direct line and privelege and tracker is somthing to do with that group aswell .Had a my00 uk turbo insured with privelege from brand new they never asked for a tracker to be fitted but up graded to 05 Jdm Sti and had to get a tracker monitoir fitted for insurance and i am still with privelege they are allways cheaper every year for me for insurance been with them 8 years or more

I think i will change to them next - I just phoned Tesco to clarify my status. They confirmed thet i have a fully comprehensive policy however without a tracker being fitted, i am not covered for theft.

How much is a tracker btw?

My car is worth 2k, is there much point in paying a quarter of that in case it gets stolen? :boldblue:

John thats insurance companys for you .No offense if i had a 2k impreza i would not be forking out 500 odd pound on a tracker and its fee save that money for fuel

Yeah, my thoughts too. It is by no means a shed, just completely standard apart from whiteline rear drop links, but with 160000 miles it isn't in its prime.

quick pic cause I cant wait to pick it up on friday!

Grant,

Hows thing mate???, ages since i last spoke to you at KH when i was with Johhny(Blue Bugeye)i had.Give Kieth Michaels a phone and ask for Gary Moulson(moleywrx on Scoobynet). I got my Spec C in at about £600 last year and now my 2006 Sti with all mods declared is the same price.

Good luck.

Yea, have thought about it and have got another car that I run around in... but never known where to go for a Traders Policy and I'm assuming that it'll be a pricey affair to sort out too as it gives you a green light to drive anything (within reason I think). :boldblue:

I called Admiral earlier on and I'm looking at................... £71 to pay to swap onto a Type-R until my renewal date. Happy days, think I'll stick that back on the list now.

Oh, forgot to say that your going to get the tracker problem with any company owned by RBS... with covers those 3 and a few more...

(Direct line, Churchill, Tesco, (and Privilege I think...) few others...)
