boris b Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Whilst giving the car a wash this morning, one of the number plate lights fell down with a pile of rust.... This is what i found when i had a peek.... YIKES... I can't possibly sell it like this, so it will have to get repaired. Anyone had to do this job before / how much time / cash etc for the full rear cross member to be replaced ??? Any advice would be appreciated so i can get it done
euan_r Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) replaced mine last year. four bolts underneath* and one at either side of the bumper. the ones at the side are nut and bolt but with nut located into plastic wedge to spread the support. problem is bolts go rusty then when you try and undo the nut starts spinning in the plastic. a ****ing nuisance but not too bad. this takes bumper off along with support bar (the rusty bit). then there are just wee clips holding bumper on to support. front end and rear parts are always in demand for imprezas. so a specialist braker can charge up to 30 notes for one of an import. got mine from a local breaker that only charged me a fiver. you can get them new at dealers as well. *there are actually three on rear passenger side but one nearest front of car doesnt hold on bumper bar, 17mm iirc edit: for a bad spelling lol Edited February 6, 2008 by euan_r

fmj Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 thats abit off a downer .looks like its a easy fix from what euan says See my reply in general discussion. I never thought of thaking the beam off with the bumper still attached but I guess either way works.
boris b Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 Great advice guys. I'm going to do this myself and get the rust on the wheelarches done by my brother in law when the bumper is off. I should be able to do it ...I'm a coachbuilder to trade.. Been off the tools for 12 years tho
