R.I.P. Colin Mcrae

The moment I passed a Series Mcrae on the road as a youngster was the moment I knew what I wanted to drive as an adult, i'll never forget that moment, and its the reason I drive a Subaru..

Legend.

A Truly sad day,

I first saw Colin in action here on The Isle of Man whilst visiting the Manx International Rally in 1990.

Marshalling at the dog kennels, Glen Roy stage, Martin Rimmer missed the 90 left and took the slip road & T boned the hedge.

Colin Also misses the corner (Braking a tad late!!) but put the Sierra Cosworth sideways through the slip road, touchs the bank with drivers side BUT is already pointing the right way and was gone within a blink.

Then many times here again in the Subaru Legacy RS, back then i used to bring a group of marshalls over for the event from Devon and one of them (Barry Luxton) summed it up perfectly,

I put him at Brandywell Cottage on the Druidale stage, it was wet, cold bleak, foggy and just generaly orrible and when i picked Barry up he was almost purple with the cold, but he said it was worth it just to see Colin coming through the stage flat out and the only one that year not to lift off going through the cattle grids!

Having moved over here 11 years ago and having had 5 Impreza's now it was undoubtably seeing colin do what he did best that brought me into subaru's.

He was a frequent visitor to the Island (2 wheels & 4 wheels) many of us where lucky enough to see him in a monster battle with phil collins in their respective Escort Mk2's on the National rally earlier this year.

He will be sadly missed here on Scooby Island

I'm honestly lost for words. It was Colin who got me interested in Impreza brand and the world of rallying, his desire to win and car control will live with me forever.

My thoughts are with his family and close friends.

RIP Colin and wee Johnny... Sadly missed but never forgotten.

Frank Cullen.

He's one of the main reasons we all drive Subaru's.

A true legend and a great guy.

Rest in peace matey.

Truly devastating news, I doubt if a lot of us here would have even heard of a Subaru Impreza if it wasn't for Colin's success let alone owned one.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends, such a great man and an even greater loss.

R.I.P Colin McRae.

I'm still in shock, just can't beleive he's gone! He is the reason I've been a Subaru nut for over 12 years now, cost me thousands to boot, but I don't care! As he said "You're here for a good time, not a long time!"

Someone I know was at Knockhill a few weeks a go for the BTCC event, Colin was speaking in the SEAT hospitality tent. After his talk, the floor was opened up for questions. Someone asked him what the best road car was he'd driven, his answer....Subaru Impreza! :D (nice one Colin!)

A great guy who will be sadly missed! :hello:
