iainc Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 OH YES YOU DO! Definitely. I was down on the GB for being AndyF'd but after a quick chat via email I figured I need to get decat'd (or sports Cat'd) before I bother remapping it (if I'm going to get decent results). Remap + 3" sports cat system = more than I have to spend at the moment (unfortunately).
iainc Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Stephen, were did you get the rubber? Not that I am in a position to buy right now, but I will have to, sooner or later! Slower in, faster out... I'll try! See you there! Anyone got any decent recommendations for winter rubber? Can't run the RE070's this winter again and they are getting close enough to need changed anyway (or before winter anyway). I've tried Michelin Pilot Alpin's on another car (same tyre size) and can't live with the sidewall flex... gives me less confidence than using the RE070's on snow or ice.
st3ph3n Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Eagle F1s cope well in anything I've had to use them in, but I guess we don't get as fierce a winter down here in tropical Glasgow as you do in Arctic Aberdeen. Wet grip is pretty amazing.

Yeah, the single track road we're on tends to get snow drifts of about 6ft deep a bit further up the road (half a mile at most). Luckily where we are and down to the main road it's never as deep (even if it does get deep enough to lift a std Impreza Turbo off the road completely[1]). Was looking for something that would be quite good in proper snow [1] - Got stranded a couple of years ago, was managing thru' the snow/ice no problem until I came round the corner and slid up on top of the centre of the road. There had been tractors on the road and the centre mound of ice was tall enough to hold the scoob up off the road so my wheels we spinning in mid air

mrbadger Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Must keep it legal my friend! I've use one of those Meercat Sportcats too. I think your figures should speak for themselves. What did AndyF say about it?
thewelsho Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 I've use one of those Meercat Sportcats too. I think your figures should speak for themselves. What did AndyF say about it? Nuttin much. Just asked what was on it and where I got it. Said it would have been better wraped thought cause it gives off quite a bit of heat which in turn heats up the intercooler. So, i am on the prowl for an STi cooler! He also sais that my car was faster than an STI and faster than a mapped STi with no mods hehe! That made me grin a bit. Even showed me some mapped graphs overlayed onto mine.
fai17 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Nice one John........Give yourself a clap in the back. A thank you would be nice

nippysweeties Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Oh! thanks for all the comments, I feel kinda special! LOL! Dunc welcome to a pax anytime. Parts used: VF34 Turbo (Jimser's old one), HKS decat uppipe (also Jimsers), Sports cat downpipe (Meercat) and re-map (AndyF - who else?!). I need to adjust to the new power. On the way home I pulled out to pass a car on a back road, hit the gas and had some wheel spin! Had to back off and use the power more progressively. Also, getting shot of the Khumos in favour of some nice new Eagle F1s would help and must be priority. Hmmm, how do I get the missus to part with another £450.... Thanks again! Is that really the only mods you have made? I only ask because because I have a 2.5 WRX and find it hard to believe it's possible to get those numbers from it. I don't mean I disbelieve you, but it seems unreal! If you've done anything else, please tell. If not, then I think I may be following in your footsteps. to the fuel consumption if it's that easy to get BIG numbers

If not, then I think I may be following in your footsteps. to the fuel consumption if it's that easy to get BIG numbers Trust me: the only performance mods are: VF34 Turbo, Sports Cat downpipe (not even a full decat!) and decatted up pipe. However, no need to purchase this bit cause the MY06 doesn't have a cat in it anyway. And THAT is it! Well that and a tweek or two from that hand of Andy. With those mods and a map your looking at STi beating performance! And that includes a mapped STis with no mods! DO IT! Edited September 12, 2007 by TheWelsho
