david_taylor Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Man am I getting sick of the cost of Scooby ownership. Not only have I had to fork out for the road tax this month, I also had to pay my 50 pound excess to fix the windscreen. If that was not enough, I noticed a hell of a lot of brake dust this month on the drivers side front. Closer inspection indicated that my caliper was siezed and after only being on six months the new subaru pad were gubbed. Got Red Stuff pads on today and a £160 pound bill. Some difference in stopping distance right enough. Lost count of how much I have spend this year on services, new brakes, drop links and cost of running. With the hefty fine and points most likely coming my way for my speeding offence, I am seriously thinking of getting rid of the thing! []
david_taylor Posted August 3, 2007 Author Posted August 3, 2007 I will second that opinion Ac!D[Y][] Stevie I would be taking it easy if I were you since you have been driving around for months with shafted rear drop links![]
Double Zero Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I'm waiting on delivery of whiteline drop links dude, hopefully will get them soon[] Stevie
thewelsho Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Get yourself a NewAge and all your motoring trouble will be gone!
Double Zero Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 [Y] Here here Mr Welsh[H] Stevie ____________ 01 WRX
david_taylor Posted August 3, 2007 Author Posted August 3, 2007 na mate, its classic or nothing for me. Unless I can get a RB320 really cheap! [] And by all accounts(Gus) the newage will never get near the handelling power of the classic even with serious money spent. [:$]
gus the bus Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 And by all accounts(Gus) the newage will never get near the handelling power of the classic even with serious money spent. [:$] Very true[Y]
gus the bus Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Get yourself a NewAge and all your motoring trouble will be gone! very un-true[]
david_taylor Posted August 3, 2007 Author Posted August 3, 2007 Get yourself a NewAge and all your motoring trouble will be gone! very un-true[] LOL!
RA Dunk Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Get yourself a NewAge and all your motoring trouble will be gone! So i guess thats why out of the 3 scoobs who finished podium in last weeks time attack none of them were " LARDY ARSED NEWAGES" [] then when the scoobs went to town in TOTB there wasnt one single newage in the 22b team [] newages suck, classics are the REAL imprezas!!! [H] here we go again []
vicki Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Classics look better too [] You will regret getting rid, it's a cracker, just like mine []
Jimmy321 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 TheWelsho: Get yourself a NewAge and all your motoring trouble will be gone! Sold my classic, BIG mistake, newage no handle!
marky.t.s Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 i know how you feel mate, tbh, its just the age of the car,i was the same for about 6 months last year, one thing after another,....MAF failure, front discs,droplinks,......major service.......rear discs required for MOT,4 new Toyo's.I was ready for selling up but when you think long and hard about it its mostly all wear and tare, which ,i think has to be expected when owning a classic(REAL SCOOBY !!!) youll just have to grin and bear it buddy.[]
john_mchutchison Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 i agree that a clean well looked after classic looks better than a new age, but there is nothing more reassuring than knowing that everytime u turn the ignition key the thing jums to life[] and then gets me to my destination, granted there is a chance it wont but MY03 wrx hasnt failed me yet (touch wood) <---------scratches head. my bro has had 4 classics and always something wrong with this and that and they rattle like and auld tin inside[] Fireproofs on!!!!!
thewelsho Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 [][][][] Granted, I cannot make an informed decision regarding the older marque and its much newer and better looking counterpart, the NewAge. I'm STILL waiting on Marky TS giving me a go in his, then I can really say without fear that the NewAge is clearly the better machine. So there!
gus the bus Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 .......... then I can really say without fear that the NewAge is clearly the better machine. So there! Ah but you wont be able to unless you lie[]

BTW,its me in the transit van that gives you a flash now and then in Airdrie and B/hill,is it yer old man thats got the Snack van in Mossend sometimes,do i get an SIDC discount if i quote my membership no.,lol.

z1000 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Well having had both yes the newage never missed a beat really and the classic is a never ending money pit but with every penny spent it gets better and better and one day everything wil be changed or upgraded. Classics are just great driving cars and its simple as that, the rawness, the way you feel every bit of the road but the newage is just a bit more detached imho Steve
