craigdmcd Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Right folks, scored the alloy against a kerb on the Impreza tonight as I was changing a CD [:$], but they were starting to get corroded anyway. It is a set of original PFF7's in the Anthracite colour. So what I am actually looking for is recommendations from people that have actually had their wheels re-coated, and how they rate the quality of the finish. I've already seen the discount section at the top of the page and used the search function and gathered some info, especially handy with regards to the snapped wheel!!! I've also had a chat with the chap that owns Prestige Tyres in Busby, and he has warned me against people that just push the rim off of the bead and paint them, as when you change the tyre the next time, it has more of a chance of flaking the new coating. SO who has had what experiences?
SEEVERS Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Craig i've just had my wheels done last week by Willy at Chameleon in Renfrew who done my 4 wheels for a smashing price and his work is second to none. He done exactly what i asked for and made an amazing job of them, cannot fault the work one bit.Told me if i wasn't happy with anything just to return them and he would put it right. You can contact him on 0141 885 1714....tell him Del with the DBM Bugeye sent you. You can ask Wullie (WRC No1)he's seen them and commented on what a cracking job was made of them. Del.

z1000 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Had mine done at pristine through my local tyre place, not cheap at £300 but pretty good although paint a bit thin in hard to reach places, not noticable on the car though.
craigdmcd Posted June 15, 2007 Author Posted June 15, 2007 Thanks for the quick replys boys. Z1000, my work deals with Pristine, and judging by the pics, would you consider the finish to be almost like standard? That's what I'm really after.
z1000 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 It was only on very close inspection bits like inside the nut holes [:$] looked a bit thin on paint but the overall finish was top notch and would use them again if i still had a set of wheels that nice [:'(]

Guest AlanK Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 maybe a stupid question - but how long does it take and can you dump the car with them? I dont have alternative wheels to put the car on whilst they are being done? Also any closer to Edinburgh?
ally-b Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I've a pair of motorbike wheels (early GSXR750 ) in at Chameleon for refurb just now . I'll be collecting them on Wednesday and I'll post a couple of pics once I get them back. Al.

Alan - there's a place in Livingston called RM Coatings - haven't used them myself though. http://www.rmcoatings.co.uk/
frank c Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 maybe a stupid question - but how long does it take and can you dump the car with them? I dont have alternative wheels to put the car on whilst they are being done? Also any closer to Edinburgh? There's a place in Loanhead (near Ikea) that does them but dont remember the name sadly and im sure someone said there's a tyre place near the Wisp that might do them..sorry i cant help with the names yet.. I'll ask at work through the week for the details . ps; i've got standard 16's with F1's on them sitting in the garage if you need them..one has a nail in it but can be fixed as it's in the middle of the tyre.
ally-b Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I've a pair of motorbike wheels (early GSXR750 ) in at Chameleon for refurb just now . I'll be collecting them on Wednesday and I'll post a couple of pics once I get them back. Collected my wheels today . Chameleon did a great job . They gave me SIDC discount and did them for £35 each instead of £40 each []. He told me that when they dipped them the white paint came off revealing black , then more white , then the original black finish , then they bead blasted them to bare alloy - so they are a bit lighter now too , having have 4-coats removed [] Heres some pics , They also demonstrated a new wheel cleaner that they will be selling soon . It is specifically for powder-coated and painted wheels and is not acid unlike most wheelcleaners. It was sprayed on , left a minute and when hosed off , the dirt just fell off . It looks like good stuff . They reckon it will be about £10 for a bottle , which seems pretty good value as it is concentrated and you only need 1:10 with water . I got a bottle to try out [] Again - They'll give SIDC discount if you show your membership card [Y] Good job and good guys to deal with. Al.
micra_wrc Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 another vote for Chameleon here.they refurbed my 4 gold alloys as well as fixing the one that was buckeled (sp?). Left the wheels with them for a week. They did a fab job and i believe that it really helped me sell the wheels + alloys within 24 hours of advertising [] got my SIDC discount too [Y]
tosh 32 Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 yip they done a great job on them imy so im gonna go back to get the one i buckled fixed[:$]
