  1. Seems like lots of sad comments from a lot of owners. But hey, today is a new day and a new w'end, its gona be sunny and all the scooby buyers will be out in force. Thats what i'm telling myself anyway cheers people Christian
  2. Thats very true, you can now get hold of these cars very cheaply, therefore suiting the youngsters perfectly. All it needs is 1 person looking for a really well looked after car, wherever that person is, please call me
  3. Scoobytoo, the car has very few mods, just wheels and exhaust really and i dont have the originals. I cant imagine the extras this car has would be putting anyone off? If it was highly modified, then i can understand that theory completely. The car i'm buying is a private sale, so cannot trade it in there.
  4. Guys, I've had my Impreza up for sale for about 6 weeks now, had 2 views, 1 didnt know if he wanted a scoob or an M3 and i havent heard back, the other was quite young and couldnt get a decent insurance quote. Neither could fault the car in any way. Is this just a bad time of year to sell a car? Its on autotrader, SIDC, scoobynet, piston heads, 22B, have posters in the car I really need to sell this car by the end of the month or the Supra i have a deposit on gets sold. Would really appreciate any ideas? Thanks Christian
  5. i was there too last night with a couple of guys, first time, was surprised at the amount of cars there. Was nice to see loads of good scoobs together. Recognised a few cars, namely, Cliffs and a blue Type R with what i think were the BK 299's in Gold, used to have them fitted to an E30 BMW, looked lovely. Christian,
  6. any ideas on prices here guys? thanks,
  7. cant you poress F8 as normal during bootup? then choose safe mode
  8. LOL, i mean second hand PARTS not PRICES! :-)
  9. Jon, thanks for your reply, do you have any idea on cost for getting the parts you suggested and rough fitting price, obviously i'm referring to second hand prices. How are these parts stronger than my UK ones and would they affect, motorway speeds / revs? I appreciate your help with this, do you think (price being ok) this would be a better idea than me having my own box fixed. Would be nice for someone else to diagnose the car's fault, how happy would i be for someone else to take a look and say 'well its not your box, its.......' Cheers bud, Christian
  10. Guys, i've been having a think, 'if' in the future i up the power to around 350 ish, the uk box is gonna be pretty on limits. At this point, would i be better fitting another type of gearbox? a japanese type for example? are they any better? and, would the cost involved be similar to what i'm looking at paying anyway? RAC will pay up to £500 per claim so its gonna be costing me around £500 on top anyway. Trouble is i took the time to buy a car with lowish mileage (45,000) and good service history, i wouldnt really know the history on another box i would fit would i? thanks, Christian
  11. Ok Jon, i'll post the question now, thanks everyone with this.
  12. Ok Chris, Will either call about lunch time or may just pop down this afternoon. Thanks,
  13. Chris, I've been down to see you a couple of times about this issue, DBM UK impreza could you take a look at the thread laballed gearbox troubles and possibly get one of your techy guys to post an answer up for me. really want to get this sorted now, but just want to make certain the work being done (and money spent) is really what needs to be done. Very much appreciated, Christian
  14. yeah, subaru warranty has expired, i took out a 5 star one with RAC in Jan when i got the car, they only pay up to £500 per claim, i'm hoping this will be covered, SGT seem to think it will be, even though it was a known issue, they said as it wasnt a recall they would not help towards costs. So you dont think it can be as simple as 'tightning the nut' even though some on scoobynet say they have done this and the box has been fine for a couple of years. i hate problems like this, doesnt seem to be a definative answer and a known bill before the car goes in, bit like writing a blank cheque to a company to fix this. Would be interested if someone Technical at SGT could post on here to explain the issue better than i have. Christian, a guy with a sick impreza trying desperately to reduce his repair bill. :-)
  15. Jon, gear changes are certainly fine and even reverse is ok as far as it not poping out or anything, its jusy whiney and sounds very dry and is hard to select. I have allready spoken to Car Gears in Reading, they wanted: £325 + vat to remove and refit box £220 + vat to strip and rebuild + parts Also spoke to 3D Transmissions in Woodley, they wanted: £186 + vat to remove and refit £269 + vat to strip and rebuild + parts The parts required (as per technical buletin for this problem) from Subaru main dealer come to £387 + vat If it helps, the parts it says are required are: sleeve and hub assembly gear set - fifth gear ring - baulk locking nut locking washer gasket The places i mentioned above were not aware o this problem with subaru boxes, hence why i was going to a main dealer and wanted to know what the ACTUAL problem was and what i should be paying. There is a big difference between thinking you have a £200 odd bill compared to a £1000 odd bill. ?? Thanks for your help here Jon
  16. Jon, I presume someone like you is more than aware of this known issue with MY 99/00 boxes, so am certainly trusting your advise. I was hoping you would reply. I dont know why i havent thought about this more, i just presumed if the specialist said it needed a rebuild, then it did. But, realisticly, if the nut is loose, and they have designed a new nut to fix it, just lower the box and fit new nut and refill with oil. What should be my next step here as this really now needs fixing as its been like this for a couple of months, reverse has been used very slowly and minimal times during this. If CHRIS @ SGT reads this, can you please confirm what is being discussed here as i would most likely be bringing the car to you as you are nearest. Thanks,
  17. People, need some advise. i'm currently looking at getting a gearbox rebuild. But am now unsure if it needs doing. My car has a known problem where a nut becomes loose inside the box and (so im told) stops the oil feed to (in my case) reverse. Its like a whining noise, but only in reverse, it just sounds very dry. I have spoken to a few places and dealerships and i have seen a bulletin released by subaru themselves, stating that if this problem occurs, its basicly a rebuild and a new nut supplied. the new nut has 4 locking 'bits' on it instead of 2, hopefully fixing the problem. My car is an MY00 by the way with 45,000 and full service history. Price of parts and labour with a SIDC membership (10 % Discount) comes to around £1000! I have an RAC warranty but this only covers up to £500. I'm interested to hear anyones views on this though. A few people have now replied on scooby net saying the back casing of the box can simply be removed and the nut can be tightened, does this mean the new type of nut can be put on and 'tightened' Very keen to hear anyone's views with experience on this before i shed out my wonga. Cheers Christian,
  18. I'm using the DBA long life gold but with standard subaru pads (i think) all was on the car when i got it. They look really good and have never caused me any problems. They performed better than any of the other subaru's i test drove, but, these were all standard brake wise. I have however noticed that one or two holes on one of the front disks has got a slight crack around it. hope this helps,
  19. Cheers for all your comments here guys, had a good workout last night after being pointed in the direction by Boxer23. Very glad i've got back into this again. Christian, P.S for all you over weight/un fit sods out there, get out and do this to!
  20. replied mate, all very useful advise, you realise your gonna become my personal over the net trainer now?! many thanks, and i will of course let you know how i get on and no doubt flood you with more questions. Christian
  21. boxer 23, i am sending u a pm at the mo thanks to you both!
  22. Guys, ok, nothing to do with a scoob, but........ I've previously worked out using a Multi Gym and had a great routine going. I no longer live where this multi gym is but have just purchased a work bench with several weights. The thing is i dont know what are the best lifts to do on a work bench that will build up the top half of my body? I'm also after the correct way of lifting the weights, ie where to hold the bar? should my arms be bent or straight on each different lift. Can anyone please give me some tips or point me in the direction of some websites that can help, i guess what i'm after is kinda like one of those wall charts. I do understand the ideas of how many reps to do and with what weights just unsure of the best exercices to do on the bench. Im 22, 5' 11" and weigh about 11 and a bit stone, i was previously doing very well with the multi gym but have since lost about a stone through not exercising, eating as well. I really wanna get stuck back in to this, Any help appreciated,
  23. cool, many thanks. I've been thinking, the price i was quoted by SGT for this work seems a little more reasonable now with a 10% discount off all of it. Might be back down to talk to you guys. cheers, Christian,
  24. Chris, i'm just about to but a bunch of parts from SGT to repair my gearbox, have bene down to see your guys a couple of times now. Car is a MY00 dbm, i popped down to see you a while back with an oil question, its got the problem where the nut becomes loose in side the gearbox and stops the oil feed to reverse, it appears to be a known problem. I'm doing a warranty claim with the RAC. 1 of your guys recommended i call a cerain place in reading that specialise in gearbox rebuilds, i have done this and the price has kinda been agreed. Anyway my question is, if i join the SIDC what kind of discount will i recieve on the parts required. Cheers Christian,
  25. i'm pretty sure though that things coming from japanparts.com you will also have to add an import tax duty and possibly some other payment as well. It has been discussed on scooby net but it will raise the cost of the £30 mentioned.
