UPdate....... Well it turns out that we finished 4minutes and 52 seconds behind the eventual winner(wrc impreza). The first couple of stages went fairly well and we managed to pick up a bit of speed. we managed to blow off an intercooler hose nearing the end of stage 2, but that was only a minor problem. Stage three went okay, again getting a bit quicker...but on stage four we started to get what we think were over boost problems. The car would boost to about 1.6bar and then not boost at all for a mile or so, but then it would come back and be okay once again. Going into the flying finish on stage 4 we had "A bit of an incident" where we came face to face with a very very large hay bale...Only minor damage was incurred, broken headlight, bent bonnet(sort of fixeable), and the front bumper pushed back about an inch. The next couple of stages wre incident free apart from the coming and going of the boost problem, so we were fairly pleased on the whole.. Onto stage 7 then, and a flying start ,into the first corner and the back end stepped out, Arron got it back, but it then went the other way, sending us onto the wet slippery grass and into a couple of spins. We span back out onto the track backwards (i think)and got going once again. We were both laughing by this time....lol Stage 8 was a rerun of stage 7, so this time we allowed enough time for the tyres to warm up properly and managed to complete the rest of the event without any dramas... Overall, an absolutely cracking day,the car performed well,Arron drove very well, and i managed to get MOST of the notes right We stayed to the end to pick up our first (and hopefully not the last) trophies for second in class.... We were sorry that we couldnt invite you all to come along and support us, but it was a closed event with no spectators (only service crew) Now that we have got the first event under our belts, we would be more than happy to have any one come along to give us some support.. Alot of people including Marshalls , Time keepers , and other competitors paid compliments to the way the car looked and performed...It cetainly turned a few heads We did manage to get some IN CAR video footage from the last 2 stages, so i will hopefully be able to burn that to DVD this week sometime.. We were let down by our tyre supplier with only a couple of days to go, so we ran the whole event on one set of half worn tyres..(definately some time lost there).. Finally A VERY BIG THANK YOU to all of our sponsors for all of the bits on the car. LEDA SUSPENSION SCOOBY TEK POWER ENGINEERING POWERFLEX CG MOTORSPORT TOPMARQS.CO>UK If anyone knows of someone who may be interested in sponsoring the car please contact myself or Arron. We could really do with a TYRE sponsor... Thanks jon

Simon, probably my faullt for the description. Being a CCTV engineer i just took it for granted that you would all know what i meant by "a normal camera housing" sorry to confuse... jon
-
<< << Specs cameras are painted yellow and are fitted into normal camera housings with what looks like a light on the side. As GTB mark says, there have to be a pair of them across a set distance to work out your average speed. >> disagree.. SPECS camera look like a camera with two round barrels mounted either side of it usually on the left hand side with a blue curved pole or they are mounted on motorway overhead sign. You sound to be describing Truvelo camera. Have a look here Daddy. The Truvelo is now usually yellow rather than blue as shown and the Digital SPECS mounting post is often more elaberate than shown. GATSO takes picture of rear of car and is instant speed calc TRUVELO takes picture of front of car and is instant speed calc SPECS records front number plate as you approach first camera, then again when you pass second camera usually a mile apart and calculates average speed.. issues ticket if over the fresh hold. No fixed camera works a mile away, only the mobile cameras/laser/radar do that either mounted in a van of late or hand held etc.. Simon >> Simon, maybe i didnt explain myself properly, as i stated, the SPECS cameras are in normal camera housings(not the big square boxes)and im sure that legally they have to be painted yellow... The ones on motorway bridges/gantries are ANPR. (normally one lane one camera)You will also notice some traffic cars sitting by the side of the motorway with the mobile ANPR cameras also. There are some motorways using Specs, and the ones ive seen are as you described on the left hand side and you pass three to four over a fixed distance, hence working out your average speed. Specs can also be used in temporary roadworks on the motorways...so its no good speeding up between cameras, cos you will get done anyway..
