I use a 92 1.8 LX Excort. 60K and cost me £500, with 12X Annual Ford Sevices. Its great cos you can park it anywhere. Including the train station. I looked at Diesels, but you pay a premium for them and they are all over 120K Miles. However there is any number of 1400 and smaller Metro's. 106's, Fiesta etc that you can buy. Best places are Loot and Adtrader online.

I bought a low milage 20G for £640. when I was looking to fit a 2.5 Bottom end. New they are Just under the £1000 mark. (See Scoobyshop). A TD05 18G, converted to Front entry will be around £400, second hand for a good one. The trouble with a new Turbo is, that other things will need to be uprated. If I remember rightly, your car is based on the WRX?, so you will need a set of STI Injectors and perhaps a Walbro pump. That's approximately another £300.00. Still in Budget, if you fit yourself.

Rally Colin in Reading did my Last one. Fitting Price of £200. Supply your own clutch. I got a lateral performance kit for £420. Its a bit for to go though, to fit a standard clutch.

TD05 20G if you want to go past 400bhp one day or aTD05 18G if you would be happy with 360BHP-ish one day. Either way and what ever turbo, you will need a remap.
