  1. Hi Neil The insurance, running and maintenance (the big one!) costs between a Sport and a WRX are chalk and cheese. If you know this then, if you buy a WRX that has already been rebuilt by a reputable company, that will be a worry off your mind.
  2. 300 lb ft and it's standard??? You lucky bugger! I have an STi4 standard except a decat downpipe and Scoobysport box and mine gets 302 bhp and 256 lb ft. As for getting over 300 bhp without spending big bucks, I would guess the only thing available to you would be a dawes device to up your boost.
  3. Is there enough to warrant a Herts chapter of the SIDC? Along with a regional organiser and its own Herts Scoobies subforum on SIDC? If you're in Herts then get your name down on the list! Your county needs YOU! http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/892396.aspx
  4. Make yourselves known. Get your names on this list please http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/891445.aspx [Y]
  5. coding is a MUST - And I don't think leaving the splitter black would look good
  6. Hi. I've owned both types of car, albeit the later cars were WRXs (I've owned saloon and wagon in blobeye and bugeye versions) and the classic is an STi (version 4). I changed from new style to old because I use the STi as a weekend toy. For that purpose, it fits the bill perfectly. If I had to go back to using an Impreza as a daily driver, I'd swap back to newage. I would add though, that outright handling is better in the newage cars. They are much more predictable and hence provide greater confidence. It doesn't take much to modify the classic's handling, but it will never get to the level of a newage STi, without spending lots of money. In terms of performance, my STi (only a decat) is on a par with the WR1 up to a 'certain' speed (this was tested on a private road of course). The weight advantage counts for a lot, however, the torque disadvantage rears its head at higher speed.
  7. You never can tell. My car was bought with 113000 miles on it and it had been looked after incredibly well - lots and lots of supporting documentation. A few hundred miles after buying it the engine 'blew'. Big end issues through oil starvation. This was identified as an oil pump failure - wear could be seen on the valve which is the weak point on the oil pump. Engine is all rebuilt now (with a modified oil pump) and it produces a fantastic torque curve compared to what it did before the rebuild. But in answer to your question, I bought this car at a price where I factored in the need for a rebuild at some point. Either do that, or buy a car that has had a recent rebuild from a reputable company.
  8. Hi this is Tommy (swtmerce) from the Herts club. Great to meet you guys today and thanks for taking the longish trip over to Welwyn. There was a fantastic range of cars to see and a great sense of camaraderie!!!! Hope to see you all soon.
  9. You'll have better handling. But better outright straight line speed? I don't think so. The classic would be faster IMO.
  10. I'd recommend buying from this or another forum. So long as the person who is selling the car has used the forums for a while, you can check previous posts for any issues with the car. Personally I have a 98 STi i.e. Jap spec, and I'd have it no other way - even though I've had to have the engine rebuilt!
  11. Hi there and welcome. Just to clarify, you are not going to get a 'Scooby burble' because you have not bought a turbo car. Or, to be more precise, the non-turbo car does not have unequal length headers - which is what makes that distinctive sound. Edited: re your question of any difference in sound with a new filter. I recently changed my standard Subaru filter to a Green filter and I can say that I can hear no difference at all.
  12. It's such a shame that the only comments that are informed and make good sense on this thread (AllenJ for example) are those in the minority. Last time I looked, it's the scum homegrown British that are failing at school (England has an average of 5 grade C's at GCSE), therefore unable to get jobs and therefore stealing from good citizens and scrounging from the government in benefits. Indeed, many young scum girls nowadays are getting pregnant on purpose so they can receive that holy grail - the council house. Removing the benefits system, or at least making it less of a free for all, IMO would sort a lot of the problems in this country - not dealing with 'all those illegal immigrants!'. Problems are usually closer to home than people like to admit.
