Gary hi, Did you mistake me for Pedals the other day near Ravenscraig ? If it was, sorry for not waving back. You caught me out not looking for Scoobs coming the other way !!! Just been nosing about the forum and seen the picture of your motor and figured out it might have been you. Nice looking machine. Pedals told me he knew of another in the area but hadn't seen you on the road before. Cheers Davie
-
Raymie, Think I passed you the other day, you were coming out of that photo location as I was heading into the town. Nice looking motor in the flesh. Davie
-
Ah the B-roads of Bute ........... bring it on. I'm way way way closer to the ferry than Pedals !!!! @Gary - What colour of motor have you got. I've probably seen you about, Noticed a shedload more Scoobs down my way recently. In fact, one of the other "fathers to be" at Ante Natal class turns out to own one too !!! Stuff talking about dilation and placenta when you can natter about the flat four !!!

Good run tonight. A bit stop-start due to the lack of Navigators in the PAX seats at some cars at the back ;0) Roads were good, brakes got a bit warmed up !!! Plenty of nice motors there. And that stonking Yellow guest !!! Not seen one of those in the flesh for years. Very very nice - though your front near side headlight needs attention - spotted in my rear view mirror as we came out of the tunnel. Cheers to everyone who said hi, and to Billy for warning me about my jammed on Brake light. Good job I had spares in the glove box. As this was only my first of the year due to work commitments - I'd go for option 3 for future meets. Even in the dark... shades of the old (proper ) RAC setting off in the early hours of November mornings through wee country roads, lights a blazing - get the motors out on the road if the weather is not too bad. Mibbe's a wee jaunt down the coast to Largs etc ( via the back roads of course ) ?

Ha ha, keep yer haun´s in yer pockets !! I´m back home next weekend, that´ll be me finished abroad so I´ll catch up with you soon to get a Pax run in this new beastie of yours.

Was speaking to Pedals on Saturday afternoon and he mentioned that he was thinking about selling his Scoob ................... to get another one !!!! Nice one ......... and watch that Gourck Road End Roundabout with this one !!

is over 80k on the clock a lot for a scooby??
McGoo replied to scoobyjim's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I guess alot has to do with how the car has been looked after. FSH should give you some level of assurance but I would recommend that you get a warranty of sorts. I replaced the engine on my MY95 WRX at 186,000Kms coz the big ends went. Probably in part to me neglecting to appreciate the Oil change frequency required by an engine with this level of mileage ( kilometres ). But up to that point it was running superb, no major problems really to report. I guess it will also depend on what if any Mods have been done, how well they´ve been done and how compatible they are with any other mods. There are many guys on here with far more technical knowledge than me so I´ll leave them to explain the ins and outs properly. -
Sorry never seen you wave back - must be those tints [H][H][H][H]

Were you driving on Tuesday morning, along PRW at the Quay, then down over the bridge to the north side of the river ? You sneaked up on me and passed on the inside. I gave you a wave and a flash of the lights but couldn't see if you waved back.

Silver Classic - pink STi badge, Square Reg Plate, STi5/6 or Prodrive Spoiler Was driving into Aberfoyle saying to the co-pilot missus "I wonder if there are any car clubs out for a run today, maybe the Mini's or Elises" to which she just tutted. A quick gander left as we passed the car park and lo and behold a Scooby. Turned out left and followed us along the road as far as Forest Hills then turned into the Hotel as we continued along the road. If it was you, looked a nice clean car ( as opposed to mine which was boggin manky ).

Robbo - wanted to make the point so much you had to post twice !![][][][][][][][] Do you not know how to use a computer ??? ha ha Hows is going mate - when we going to see you and yer motor at a Glasgow meet. On the topic, I didn't read the thread in question so do not know what stage it got to before it was pulled from the forum but I suspect that it was not the main point about the root cause of the complaint in question, perhaps just the nature/wording of one or more posts within the thread. I am of the same opinion to most posters in this thread, that it should be possible to post up legitimate critique of experience with main dealers - good or bad. Obviously negative criticism must not be libelous and be based on fact. If main dealers do understand that there is negative feedback within the recognised Drivers Club then that should be their prompt to improve the service to their customers. Its what any other business would do. Keep their customers happy. Especially with Subaru launching a new MY06 model this year, they would (should ) be looking for existing customers to perhaps upgrade to the latest version. Tuppence worth spent.

Not seen the Herald yet but the "Motoring Correspondent" of my local chip wrapper done a wee piece on the MY06 WRX a couple of weeks ago. Basically a review of his Test Drive which took him over to the East Coast ( not specific which part the East Coast though ) for a day. Not much to the article which really seemed to be only a regurgitation of the marketing blurb ( 2.5 Turbo / 225 BHP / 0-60 Range of models available, WRX versus STi yadda yadda yadda ) and saying that the format of the car was a bit dated (??????) No comparison against previous models. No comments on the difference the bigger lump makes to torque etc etc. Money for old rope if you ask me. I cuold do that. BUT ..... the wee bit at the end of his journal said something along the lines of, that every time he passed another Scooby he got a wee wave or a blip of the lights and that put a smile on his face. So hats off to all you East Coast crew who might have waved a Journo out on a Test Drive !!

Was thinking the same thing last night en route home. There is a wee place up at Loch Katrine ( nice run up to Aberfoyle first ) then continue out along the B829 in the forest ( the road that goes to Inversnaid - nice and quiet ). There is a car Park up there that I doubt would be busy so poss venue for a BBQ. Well in saying that, it was quite a few years since I've been up that way - dunno if its changed. Clicky for Map Alternatively, there are a few waterside picnic spots with parking up alongside Loch Lomond on the way to Rowardennan

Agree. It is like that old saying of sorts, its great to travel but its always good to come home to what you're used to. It is surprisingly good to step into the Scooby after driving other machines. When I have to use my other half's runaround ( 1.2 Corsa ) for any reason, I find myself planting the right foot and then rocking back and forward in my seat willing the acceleration to kick in, hoping the rocking forward will somehow mystically add another 150bhp to the "Foxy Vauxy". Never happens though. But when I need a car, any car, the missus' Corsa is the best coz it gets me from A to B and thats the important thing. Perhaps I'll secretly install NOS on it and not tell her !! Having driven a few borrowed and hire cars recently, I was impressed by the 1. Audi A6 Avant Sport ( 2.0 TDi ) for handling under load, comfort over distance ( 1600 miles ), cabin specification, build and surprisingly good torque and take off when planting in any gear. A true European Mile Muncher. 2. Pug 307 SW ( 1.6 TDi ) for fuel economy, layout of the cabin, specifcation and load size for an estate. 3. New Nissan Micra for the cabin size / height at the driver seat. Have not been impressed by 1. Ford Focus Estate ( 1.6 Petrol ) for build quality, seemed cheap and handling under load was a bit "bouncy". 2. Ford Fiesta 1.1 for absolutely dreadful handling and steering feedback at anything more than 40mph. Instructions should be.."Turn Steering Wheel - clockwise or anti-clockwise - in the direction yuo wish to travel, wait 5 seconds, car will move in the required direction" 3. New Renault Megane for confusing the hell out of me with the Key Card Slot and Start Button, and all round visibility from the drivers position is poor with the positioning of the A pillars. There you go then, move over Jezza, I should be on Top Gear !! C'mon let's hear your reviews of other marques and models. Proper reviews mind not just "well it ain't as good as a Scooby" Edited to Add : My old boy used to have a Hyundai Accent which was THE worst car to drive in the world. A blamange with wheels would have been better. Eventually he got rid of it but traded it in for a newer model !!!! AAARRRGGGGGG It was just as bad. Did he not listen !! Thankfully for him, he's seen the light and punted it. Not before time.

Hopefully be along to the meet a bit later tonight. Weather is to be not bad tonight so I'll maybe catch the car park chatter - though my mota is manky with all this schuch on the roads at the moment. @Pedals - sorry mate, I cannae give you a lift up to the meet, got band stuff on tonight, going straight from work. Catch yi at Scapa on Saturday. text me with news of yer motor.

I found that the slippage started in 4th and 5th gear. If cruising at say 3k revs and you push the accelerator down for more oomph, the engine will rev up and you'll hear the engine rev along with the rev counter going up but the car doesn't react - nothing to the wheels. I would get it seen to pronto if this is happening now coz I was told that continually driving like this can affect the flywheel also. << If your car is standard or just modified slightly then you will get away with putting a bog standard clutch back in it, if you live on the west coast then Greersport in Beith can do this for you at a sensible price. >> I've just had Greer's fit a new clutch to mine. Recommended. << ps Wilky car looking good (bet your looking forward to blasting round the back roads on Bute again!!!!) >> Wilky - are you an islander ??? Didn't know that. I'm from W.B. Had plenty of wee jaunts round the tarmac of Bute, great roads just a ferry away ( although getting there via Cowal is much better fun )

Watch who you give your mobile number too!!!
McGoo replied to Rice Rocket's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Had one of these last night on my moby. They had not de-activated Outgoing Call Line Identifier so I see a call coming in from a Mobile Number ( 07xxxxx ) Loadsa folk have my moby number for work purposes so to get a call from an unrecognised number is not unusual. "Hi, we are agents for T-Mobile, can you confirm that you have a T-Mobile contract" "No" "We are diong a special offer on handset upgrade, do you have a Pay as You Go contract" "No" "Do you have a 3G contra ...." Click They are just trying to get a contract renewal through cold calling. I've had these before, they are using a created list of numbers to dial out. Certain sequences after the initial 07 such as "957" are ( were ) T-Mobile numbers - depends if you have since ported your number to another network. They are just dialing in sequence the numbers after that i.e 07957 000 001 ( sorry if this is anyone's number but if so, I guess you'll already have had a call !!!!! ) I like andywrx's suggestion which I'll use next time The thing is, I now have their number which will no dout be put to use for great amusement when they start to get calls from double glazing companies and other mobile phone companies !!! Edited to add - if anyone wants a handset upgrade, give em a call on 07961950747 or maybe just find a few of those online "Please Call Me Back" type things !!! -
Sooooperb !!! Right, I'm away to the garage to dig out the old VHS "The Story of the MKII Escort" for some nostalgia. This sequence is in it. Ah the days when you could get a "Fast Ford" from the showroom. Not the corporate Blue Oval Mobiles they punt out now. They missed the boat completely with the Focus RS and having looked at the new ST, it just ain't up to scratch.

Ah, the rear screen wiper on JDM's, what bliss. Just a pity that the Sh*tty front wipers start to lift at 60mph and don't clear properly due to the wind lift !!! Aaaarrrrggggh !!!! And don't suggest those naff blade attachments !! Dunno if the new Age's are any better but a note to FHI when testing should have been "Heavier Springs on the Windscreen Wipers" Emb'dy know if there are replacement units / springs that'll do the biz ? Stuff yer 300+ BHP Mods, Mahooosivve Turbo's, Balistic Torque figures, Lowering kits, Anti Lift Kits, FMIC's etc etc etc - just give me windae wipers that work above 60Mph !!!! Apart from that, not much to complain about !!

@ Davie - It's a pity Billy wasn't there tonight. He usually gets round everyone. We were all just kinda sitting about at our own tables waiting for Billy to turn up. After you left, Billy phoned someone to say he couldn't make it along. Held up at work. I said Hello when you came in. Lookin' forward to seeing the mean green machine at the next meet. As Wilky and others have already said, weather was sh*te so couldn't do the car park chatter. @Stephen - Mods Mods Mods. More Mods lined up that you can shake a stick at. And Peter is only encouraging you !! @Peter - nice to meet you. @Wilky - cheers for introducing yourself @Squirrel - I now want bonnet pins ( after my new clutch ) @ScoobyUK300 - again, nice to meet you. I'll mibbe get a gander at your motor next time when the weather's a bit better. Or if you see me passing through Kilbirnie / Glengarnock gimme a wave. @Pedals - sorry about the spray on the way home dude, no mud flaps !! And aquaplaning on the M8 just after the airport was a small brown trouser moment. Dunno how it looked from behind. Err I'll rephrase that.... when the car squewed left big stylee, when you were tailing me did it look as big a jolt as it seemed ? Probably didn't look like anything untoward but inside the car it seemed a big slide. Catch yi's next time Cheers Davie
