i sort of fell into it
i did store/materials side of things for a bit and there was a position going at the company one of my mates was working at.
got the job and did that for about 7 years, due to the fact i knew all the equipment, mechanics of the equipment and got on with the offshore engineers it was a easy step to work offshore
been with this company for, wait for it, 16 years now [] worked offshore 9 of them
i was sort of lucky to get the job the way i did, the company i work for (Scientific Drilling) believe in self promotion and are keen to see their employees go on to do better things within the company
and were quite happy to see someone like myself go into the offshore side of things rather than move to another company
i know this wont help you in your search for a job offshore [:$] but it is quite often the case of "who you know" rather than "what you know"
