  1. << Yea,i was deafening folks at dalhousie castle tonight..........what band do u play in?....,as we're bound to know some of the same folks.

PS after I got my Scooby, the drummer got a Civic type R...... it makes the retreat home at the end of the night far more interestingface-icon-small-wink.gif >>

MY94 - I play for Soul Train although my name is not on the slightly out of date website. Been working with as a 2 piece for Scotbase called Homebru for 10 years - moving into the functions market now. "Soul Train" is a 5 piece wedding/function band. Also do a bit of theatre work and other odds and ends such as Lena Martell this Sunday night @ Falkrik Town Hall.

    What about yourself?

Yes - but still the small matter of warranty left - and, of course, cash. Also, with the 3" straight drainpipe I have under the car at the moment, there is no room for a silencer. That is the job served by the cats - at the moment. Need to rebuild the whole things to fit any silencers. A pity.

It does not need to be loud to be good BUT it does sound nice.

  3. Pretty much the same for me BUT when the thermostat says "I'm ready" the oil temp gauge says the opposite. It can easily take 10 miles of mixed running before the oil is up to operating temperature. I was amazed at how long it took at first.

Point - don't nail it just because the thermostat gauge says it's OK - it takes a good bit longer. Best way to heat the car up is to drive it gently, not so much letting it idle I read.

  4. There was a good test on the Project RA in Jap performance this month showing the difference between using standard NGK plugs and iridium ones with a recessed tip (can't remember make but may have been Blitz).

The car dropped power HUGELY - something like 25 BHP and the manufacturer admitted these should be fitted mainly for reliability reasons.

They reckoned that the standard NGK plugs (or equivalent quality) were best on the rollers (and during mapping) for their car running circa 330 BHP and similar torque.

  5. Thanks for the link Cal.

Was in discussing it today - ie plans for post warranty...the best solution seems 100% to get a totally free flowing 3" downpipe and put the sports cat just after the A/F sensor, which will be back in where it is (no CEL fix needed). The sports cat, and a small resonator (for sound proofing if needed) will be in the centre section, after all probes and sensors. Sounds a good plan. Also the downpipe will be a snakehead, not the poor Subaru design.

Will not be doing the uppipe or headers at present as I don't like the sound of equal length - I want to keep my rumble.

  6. What was the deal with the sports Cat??? I am getting one made for the car so won't be wasting mega bucks buying an off the shelf piece of junk - but then again - who knows.

I want the car to run within emmissions regs as much as possible and have it mapped as a legal car. I am not looking for mega power - still reasonable happy with the power of th car - always made between 235 and 245 BHP on the rollers and 230 - 238 lbs/ft torque so can't argue on a standard car with minor exhaust work. I should get the car to the 260+ figure with a nice 3", straight system, possibly equal length snakeheads with a sports cat.

Fuel pump may also be useful, although I doubt at the power I am wanting it'll make any difference. I don't want to the car far from standard.

    Anyone got any advice???

    Brian...

  7. Sounds good Cal,

I am off for discussions with my "gas free-er uppers" tomorrow to see what the plans, with sports cat, will be for the end of the cars warranty period mid 2006.

Then a visit to Mr Forrest is in order. What else do I need to do other than 3" exhaust & STI panel filter for a figure circa 260 + BHP and similar Torque - I have the same requirements as you Cal for the way you need it to run. Do I need to uprate the fuel pump?

  8. LOADS of people have done similar - it is all well tried and tested ground for an Impreza. A remap will be needed after the work to prevent det and get the best from the mods.

I would reckon for an up pipe, downpipe and centre section it could be a few hundred quid easily, probably more. Also depends on how good your existing backbox is, the diameter of the pipework and and other work which might be needed or recommended.

    Good luck.

  9. Makes a difference to the look but it is the handling which is most important I believe. Any car can look low.

I think I paid just short of £330 at A F Noble Subaru in Penicuik, without any SIDC discount, about 15 months ago, which I thought was a good price. This included supply and fit of the springs and the full geometry check and Prodrive settings.

Sorry I missed you the other night Andy - it signed me in - I was not there but having connection problems for weeks (no phone for three weeks face-icon-small-sad.gif ).
