I did the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2 years back. Absolutely mind blowing machinery down there, although you have to be into the older stuff (ie - the GT40) really as there are a lot of cars from that era. It's miles away, but it's a trip worth doing. You could be there for 3 days and still not see everything. would recommend it whole heartedly !!

After an abrupt ending to the long awaited MMR, the Soob's been off the road for 2 weeks being fettled with. At 20mph in Penpont, the o/side shock absorber collapsed - fortunately occured only at 20mph. Have now had 2 new KYBs fitted up front, had the geometry set up to Prodrive settings, and also had the Cambelt done as well (it wasn't due for another 8,000 miles - but I wanted peace of mind). Not yet had a proper run in the car to see what the differences are, however initial impressionsare that it does feel as if the car is more responsive to steering inputs and underesteer has been reduced significantly. John at Extreme Motorsport in Whitburn did the work. So - the Soob will all be set up for the Highland Run, where hopefully I will get more than 70 odd miles completed !!

<< Please note my post is intended to be constructive - I'm a mellow fellow as most of you know Cal >> I see what you're saying Calsonic and think Derek and Phil's comments are also quite positive. However, too many subsections could be a bit of a nightmare to administer. One idea might be just a general request to forum posters (maybe as a thread sticky) to start each thread title with a brief description: eg - Joke - Vicar and french maid Technical - suspension allignment help required please. General - Got a NIP through the post last night - arrrggghhh!! Of course, to be honest this will be a bit of a nightmare to get started and not everyone will want to identify the type of post that it is, in the thread title - however this may make identifying the type of post that it is a bit easier.......... Good idea or load a rubbish.................???

So Come On Then, Decide The Fate Of The Fridge...
Grovit replied to Carl Davey's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I don't know though Dave - I've got the lurrveellly Racelines that would have finished it of - muu ha ha ha !!! Carl - if projects light your fire bud, then change the soob - personally I like having a car that I can fettle with and am with you on that score. However flash cars and new houses are a tricky one to balance. I had a cracking ATR, but down graded to a 10 year Golf gti because my new house came with a big mortgage. had a year of hell with no fun car to speak of, but eventually managed to get a soob sorted out. Do your sums mate and see what the calcs say - sounds very boring I know, but houses cost dosh - even new ones as they all need to be kitted out and furnished. -
Happy Birthday swigg - you crazy bampot !!!

if the MMR (the last run just a few days back) is anything to go by, I've every faith that the route planners have planned for fuel stops along the way

MMO FOOTAGE............The Plan.....
Grovit replied to fraser_drinkwater's topic in Scottish Scoobies
No objections from me if it's posted up - (although I don't think there's much of me in it) - be good to see some footage though -
I should be ok for either of these dates - should have the suspension sorted by then, so hopefully I can get a bit more of a run this time
-
Well done Grant and Imy - organisation was top notch. My apologies for having to pull out v.early on in the route (I was the black Catalunya that was pulled over by the side of the road at the village of Penpont). However, the n/side suspension strut had collapsed - called Green flag and got a run home on the back of a flat bed. Not the end of the world I guess, just a shame it was cut short because: a - the turnout was good, b - the weather was improving, c - the pace was excellent, and d - I was having a good tussell with the awesome sounding RB5 in front of me (apologies don't know your name). Still - hope everyone had a good day and am looking forward to seeing some pickys and Swiggi's cam-footage !!

suspension - diagnosis, supply and fit in S.Lanarks / Glasgaow area
Grovit replied to Grovit's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Hi David - I thought about replacing same axle shocks - ie 2 at the same time. It's difficult to diagnose the problem, but it rather looks like the unit has collapsed on the inside - there is such excessive movement whilst moving the shock absorber from side to side. I thought coilovers were a bit hardcore for daily use...? -
After a thoroughly enjoyable start to the MMR, I had to retrie to the pits with n/side front suspension failure. Have had the wheel off, and there is substantial flex, knocking and movement from the n/side front strut. I'm not 100% sure what it is, but I think it's safe to assume that the strut unit - ie the actual shocker is buggered. In this respect, not quite sure what to do - see if I can get a std replacement strut from Subaru or look towards replacing the entire set up with a shocks and springs kit (I'm sure that it's unwise to replace just one shocker only and that at the very least you need to replace the two on the same axle...?) any suggestions as to: A - what it could be that has actually broken (I realise my explanation of the problem is pretty poor - apologies) B - A reputable diagnosis, supply and fit place in the Glasgow / S Lanarkshire area. C - What kit would be recommended for our delightful pot hole ridden roads. I'm not keen on a coilover kit as I've heard it is far too hard and non compliant for every day road use. Any help would be much appreciated Cheers Chris

Haven't yet used Meguirs but have only ever heard good stuff about it. However a bi-monthly go over full body wax treatment with Auto-glym does the trick for me (oh - the car likes it as well !!)

Grovit replied to wrxmania's topic in Scottish Scoobies
