not sure what khumos you are getting, but i a have a set and they are the worst tyres i have ever used, they have no traction in dry or wet and i went thru the rears in about 8k.....they are cheap, but you get what you pay for.....i put on my winter wheels with bridgestones and the grip is like night and day IMO.....even in winter on slippy, salty roads i get better traction now than in the dry summer using khumos.......

You passed by me this morn on the Kessock bridge, looked good........ Also spotted H3gge at the Bp station about to go thru a car wash
-
Went to a Max day before, it was crap, full of burberry and buckie, felt to sared to park the car anywhere with all the neds hooning around, they have their £100 motors and have no respect for other peoples cars and safety and Crail do f*** all about it......even the lure of semi nude and topless girls doesnt encourage me to go........Just my opinions but not the mag day you wanna take your kids too
-
Problem is that i would take the car elsewhere now, but they have dismantled the rear end and refuse to reassemble it with any parts other than these Japanese ones, they also will not fit any parts unless they source them. The parts they have removed cannot be refitted either so unless i can find out if the uk parts are the same and then kick off to get them fitted, my car is in their possession with only 3 corners fitted to it.
-
thats exactly what i thought, but when i asked at HAlleys they didnt seem to have a clue TBH and told me they refuse to fit UK parts, so hoping someone will know and give me a definitive answer so i can then go and get this sorted as i'm not waiting weeks for parts to be shipped from Japan when they will be the same as the stuff thats available now..........and most likely be charged a premium for this

Was looking for some advice as i am not 100% sure on parts between BDM and JDM cars.I have an MY99 STI V5 Type RA which has destroyed a rear wheel bearing and looks like it needs a new rear outer CV joint as well. So i contacted my local Subaru main dealer (Halleys of Milngavie) , explained the problem and what work is needed (deffinately a bearing and maybe the CV joint will need looking at) and they said that they would do the work and repair it for me. However they have now stripped the back corner of my car and told me that the bearing was knackered and it looks like the CV joint needs replaced too, but it only comes as part of the rear drive shaft Anyway i told them to get the parts and sort it as i want my car back asap, now here is the technical bit. They have told me they will only fit specifc Jap spec parts (bearing and shaft) which they may have to order for Japan and could take up to 6 wks . I told they just to use the same parts they would put on a P1, but was told they cannot garuntee they are the same so refuse to fit them, or do any more work until these 'jap parts' are obtained. So i am now quite pi$$ed off as they have stripped my car and wont put it back together again......so if anyone can tell me that the uk parts for a P1 or other UK model are the same as the parts for my Import STI, then i can go in an kick off until they fit the parts i tell them to........not having my car with them for 6wks as nobody ever told me that they couldnt do the job, was promised my car would have only been in for a morning.......However when i complained and said i wanted a curtosy car i was told that i should have expected this, afterall i took a JDM car to a UK dealer........ Overall their attitude towards me has been awful, and the level of service a disgrace, they never phone when they say, i have to continually chase them for info all the time. I phoned last monday and booked the car in on the Wed, told them the car was import and what was needed work wise, nobody mentioned any problems to me. When i dropped the car off i was told i could expect it back by the end of the day, yet when i called to check if it was ready i was told 'we only have enough time booked to have a look at the car and remove the bearing not to do any other work on it' so i was not best pleased. Then i was told it was my fault for it maybe needing the CV replaced ( this they were told about tho). So now the car is there and they refuse to do any work or fit non Jap parts, wont provide a curtosy car and tell me there will be problems getting parts, none of which i was told when i booked it in last week. The only reason i went to a main dealer is as its a Subaru i thought that i would have better service and parts would be easily available and the work would be a high standard. Looks like i was worng on all counts......so my advice is avoid using Halleys. So if anyone knows about the parts comapability between BDM and JDM for the rear wheel bearings and CV joints can you let me know asap.

i got mine from scoobyworld through a group buy so were a bit cheaper than normal, but find they are good quality and have good brackets and mountings with them and coompared to others on the market good VFM IMO. http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/produ...71#mudflaps9300

I will be at Crail on Sunday as ever Just to add my opinions to the debate, the tuning capability of the Ford YB found in Cossies is awsome and as said for a grand you can easily get from the standard 220(ish) bhp to 330 (stage 3) with simple mods, induction kit, decat, green injectors, 3 bar map sensor and a chip. Fords are highly tuneable and so easy to work on, it means that most will be running circa 300bhp, which is more than enough to compete with a standard STi. When it comes down to it the issues with Fords are the age of the cars, the technology is easy to work with and parts cheap and plentiful but the newest RS Cossie is over 10 years old now and as such are not reliable and suffer from rust........Subarus are great fun and i'm happy with mine, but they do look crap IMO next to an Escos......Problem is that Subarus are so common now that everyone thinks they are all the same as the styling diferences are so subtle between models, where as cossies just look and tell you what they are...... Think there is a lot of pedigree to both marques, as for performance, cossies are easier and cheaper to tune than the subaru, but IMO both are great cars...........

totally agree, i have tarox discs, but the ferodo DS2500 pads and braided hoses made a huge difference over standard set up, i had the ability to stop.......it was amazing at first in comparison........
-
not noticed any mpg difference, but have seen an extra light come on on my lambdalink, so it must be making a bit of difference over Optimax. Anyone else notice this?

i'm originally from the BI, often go back up and spend a lot of time blasting about. what you got?

High octane fuel North of Inverness???
sandyRS16i replied to steve_nairn_sti's topic in Scottish Scoobies
there is no optimax north of inverness, even then they only have 1 station and it was running out on Sunday even at 105.9p per litre[:'(][:'(][:'(]. There might be a BP in Wick, if not there is one in Dornoch, not sure if they do Ultimate tho. best bet is either OB or take a jerry can with you!!! -

Where is good for an MOT Glasgow West End

think we all know what you mean, the old 40mph driver, oblivious to the speed ratings of the road they are on and the fact the car has the ability to change gear when in motion!!! They pi$$ you of by going slow in the 60 bit then always have the cheek to look frustrated and try to enter your @ss in a 20/30 zone. I find its a good idea to slow down as much as possible when you eventually get in fornt of them, i find that burbbling along in 4th at 20 in a 30 or 40 gets right on their tits.........then show them how the 60 is meant to be driven when you hit it!!!!!haha
-
As per title really. Still have the downpipe cat, but a bit worried about the emissons[*-)], anyone thing it will pass with just one cat. Does anyone know of anybody in the Glasgow area who may be able to MOT it for me[] Cheers

There are lots of good roads, best heading up towards ullapool A835, then head up the A837 to A839 towards Lairg before joining the A9 to head back to Inverness, some nice routes up that way. If not even heading along the east towards lossie etc is good then just head down A or B roads to Granton etc. even going across west to Fort Willian or Kyle then heading north before coming back. The Black Isle is also good, you can head along to Cromarty along the South coast then back along the North, best done at night tho. Just remember to fill up with Optimax before you leave Inverness as there are very few Shell stations about, Shell is next to Raigmore hospital in Inverness. I normally just drive aimlessly all over the place, its the best way to find good roads TBH. There are loads of roads about, traffic volume is usually quite low, but just avoid the main towns like Inverness or Dingwall for driving about as the local plod have a direcive to target all subaru exhausts, whether aftermarket or Prodrive and will issue a £30 fine.......loads of threads about it on here and Scoobynet.

yeah, classic type RA Noticed the trouble with the launches in the wet.........was that with full lock on the DCCD as well? I think i may have a vid of your car against the white 4x4 saff......it seemed to get better traction in the wet tho
