  1. I used to buy "sneider" shades but have found that if you buy a decent pair you tend to look after them accordingly........had my current pair for 1 yr and the previous pair for 4 yrs....they are now back up in my wifes chariot. These are my current joabs ......... http://www.iddw.co.uk/files/t_16518.jpg CGS
  2. this was an informative and useful thread until the nonsense started...............decent user feedback is the only way to tune hone the system. Bitter posts about the forums ( sometimes perceived) problems & past lives just fuel any nonsense.... so keep the ideas coming and ditch the bull CGS
  3. Arch - have a snifter in here for some info too :- http://www.rallyperformance.com/engine.shtml Cal
  4. Voila :- here's the post from way back in September ................. bear in mind that a PPP highflow cat is not 100 CEL I still get playful pelters for claiming the car to be a STi killer but my videos from KH don't lie. STi10 with 2.5 Litre engine was dispatched on two occasions although I know the track well. Numerous other weapons dealt with too but the track varied from damp to sodden ! Cheers Cal ********************************************************* The background My goal has been to slowly mod my car and create a daily runner which has a reasonable combination of power mods, chassis tweaks and powerful brakes which can handle the odd track day. My suspension is untouched as yet but the brakes have been fettled and are more than adequate for track and road in their current state. So Whiteline gear to follow me finks. The aspiration is to hone my car into a reliable all-rounder B-road weapon which can extract the odd STi scalp ( if required). Of course the STi ( say a 2002 UK model for arguments sake) has many different features other than the 6 speed box, stronger brakes & better handling but I like the thought of issuing a small fright on occasion. Apparently the STi UK 2002 model had 261.5bhp at 6,000rpm and at 253 lb ft at 4000 rpm. Anyway, purpose of the post is to show how a few tweaks can dramatically transform a 215 bhp standard UK WRX into something a bit tastier. 3 graphs on each page represent the 3 different dyno sessions I have had at Wallace Performance ( Dastek system) over 3 different stages of tune over 12 months or so ( I kept using the same dyno set-up for consistencies sake despite having no control over weather etc !) Stage 1 - the usual attempts to let her breathe and free up some burble. Factory Map + K&N panel filter, WR Sport backbox, ScoobySport decat link pipe and unsilenced centre section. Horrible standard WRX downpipe & up-pipe cat still in-situ. Stage 2 - a remap to see what gains can be realised from a Ecutek remap Andy Forrest Map + the above Stage 3 - more serious tweaks in pursuit of more boost & ponies Revised Andy Forrest Map + ScoobySport Backbox mated to to complete turbo back TSL Thundercat system ( high flow 100 cell cat) + decat H&S up-pipe + ported turbo ( though still a standard TD04). Not hitting target boost in 2nd as I need to tweak the actuator but 3rd & 4th is hitting 1.2 bar of boost. The results (I know the real indicator is how it feels on the road but the below is a worthwhile exercise to superimpose the three runs) In summary, I have a nice quick spool up with torque flooding in early & strong ( above is 4th gear on all runs (I believe)) with peak torque almost delivered at only 3500 rpm. Bottom line is 280 bhp @ 5750 rpm and 265 ft.lbs @ 5200 rpm. [H] Any thoughts ..as to what should come next ( TD04 hybrid perhaps plus larger IC ?) Not really keen on going beyond 300 bhp in line with my reliability mindset. Handling recommendations also welcome - not keen on the brutal drop of Teins but Eibachs may be next. However, the standard springs are excellent on a bumpy B-road so maybe Whiteline gear alone may prove the remedy ? Cheers Cal p.s here is the car in question :-
  5. Hi Arch I tried doing what you propose like Gus said - hangers are different and foul the car & the flanges don't perfectly align. Ask AWD in Perth changing the downpipe is easy...............if you have done it a good few times and learned the hard way. Easier on a newer car though but still a risk of shearing a bolt on the turbo a) 260 bhp 240 bhp or so c) 260 bhp or so with less risk of the rank standard IC hose going belly up. The new IC hose can take higher boost and yileds smoother air flow I did a thread while back on my exploits with dyno results but alas the forum search function is not what it ought to be. I will try to find it though Cheers Cal
  6. Thanks folks - I try to post fair and square Incidentally, I upgraded to IE7 after the forum upgrade ( to see what the fuss was about with the new browser) and now find the forum easier on the eyes now because IE7 seems to adopt some sort of font smoothing like XP does on your desktop icons Cal
  7. The remedy for me is simple.......... ditch the SIDC True Grip and make it an emailable PDF for members. invest the money saved from publishing into the forum which let's face it, is where we do most of our communcation ( poor or otherwise) if the organisers are volunteers, that fine but surely the admin / ball-ache of not doing a magazine would reduce their grief ? The only reasons I will be renewing this year are :- dealer & parts discount insurance deals track day saving ( although I'll be lucky to track once a year) I feel I ought to support the volunteers to a certain extent to benefit all The forum is 75% okay but search and advertising is PPP ( pi$$ poor performance) Cheers Cal
  8. The struts on the bugeye are different. I think the blobeyes ones are inverted for starters. I belive it is "do-able" by changing some other bits e.g top mounts but someone else will be more knowledgeable on this. The blobeye WRX and STi struts are both inverted but I think they are different again....... Hope this helps but dont quote me on it ! Cal
  9. Weird timing Jamie ! I posted that exact same clip in the video thread sticky a few days back........... Sweet drifting and the definitive Scooby growl to boot ..............legendary stuff Cheers CGS
  10. I think it's a UK classic (1998) but not sure about the year Russell Kassam - do a google for "turbo lag" - some folk love a shove in the back half way through the rev range whereas as other want a instant kick. Best to minimise it in all honesty Cheers Cal p.s Rusky I touch goats
  11. naughty boy posting in the wrong place .............................but the zorst does sound like the horses hot one to be fair !
  12. w.r.t traffic dropping - is that a reflection of the Off Topic Section ( which I prefer to keep to deflect any non Scoob chat) or down to the fact that people are not liking the new look ? The look & functionality will be fine tuned in my opinion so we must "stay the course" as George Dubya says Yeah it could be the password issue to though I will support the club but I do feel that :- a) the search function is very poor not being able to visit "your threads" or "unanswered posts" etc is annoying Not a major issue Cal
  13. Those who pay for the annual membership should NOT be subjected to adverts IMHO ..... The ones that don't pay should suffer though as they are not really funding the brotherhood Does that sound fair ? I wouldn't mind Phils feedback on that ? ( I can cope with the ad's at the bottom of the page however ) Cal
  14. Just bought one for my wife so I will be pretty disgusted if they want £15 for a 2 minute call and a new cover note ! CGS
  15. Dont be "feart" to drill holes - it's a simple job assuming you take your time and read up beforehand If i can do it then so can you ! I shat myself at the prospect of an oil change so I can assure you it's easily done Whack some Waxoil over the drilled holes afterwards and your are laughing CGS
  16. Guys - check out this thread on SN http://bbs.scoobynet.com/members-gallery-5...highlight=flaps Cal
  17. Fark - Grant beat me too it but at least my answer is comparable !
  18. Hi there, Full decat exhaust 2.5" Andy F remap Uprated Panel Filter No need for CAI or FMIC at this stage That should net you around 275 bhp.... If you wanna hit 300 bhp you likely have to change your turbo ? If you do that then you'll want to source a bugeye TMIC CGS
  19. Yeah I had Whiteline solid drop links and an adjustable anti-roll bar fitted. Got Geo settings done too. Had drop links and ARB with standard springs fitted before though and it was more tail happy. Prodrive settings and springs makes it handle WAY better but I cannot make the back end break away so easily now [A] CGS
  20. Cheers Gaz - I had them on the lower setting on standard springs to begin with and have left them there. The flaps only rub with > 2 passengers which is a rare occasion for me I'm loving' the rally slag look though with the being lower to the deck [H]
  21. Depends on your budget..............Scott Lowe & Prodrive are best in my opinion I have heard the Ebay ones have a tendency to discolour ( blue ones especially) however []
  22. Photobucket seems to be a pain in the erse these days so using this :- http://calum-shand.fotopic.net/c1169903.html Not a radical drop but keeps it looking neat & tidy ! I had the rims powdercoated in silver flitter after a minor kerbing Cheers Cal p.s yes they pics were taken at Cove Harbour before you ask
  23. All Hail Doctor Drew ! Glad you are happy with the new mapping [H] [ap] He knowns his stuff like [8-|]
