  1. There are a few notes on Scoobypedia (see link below), however this is not a complete how-to yet. I did it for my slightly mod'ed MY00 Classic a while back. No noticeable performance gain and a whole lot of extra turbo sounds from the engine bay. I didn't do it again for my newage. http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...esonatorRemoval
  2. To be honest, that sounds more like 'fuel cut' to me mate - over boosting in the cold weather causing ECU to cut fuel until boost drops, then repeats...
  3. iain, recommend you change dealers if they are giving you that advice. What mods have you got?
  4. Is it sensor number 7 here: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/Sensors
  5. Decat mid pipe should just pass an MOT still, however the older the cat (in your downpipe) the less efficient they get so a good MOT engineer will ensure they get the CAT hot. If you read my experiences, just a center decat has minimal benefit so IMHO don't bother. Do as I did and buy second-hand another standard downpipe and center pipe (with CATs), bash them out and install them. Decat on cheap. That way you have your originals ;-) -Steve.
  6. Si, 1. From first hand experience you do not need to cut the pipe. On my newage MY03 (same downpipe) I managed to bash it out. I link to the instructions on my project page. 2. Doing this will fail your MOT. In a few hundred miles after a decat downpipe your CEL will come one to say your CAT does not seem to be working very well ;-) This won't cause any problems just you will be unable to see if the CEL has come on indicating a more serious problem. People perform a decat electronic CEL fix to stop this. Your local mapper should be able do this for less than £40 - or DIY. -Steve.
  7. This is very common especially if you have a decat downpipe. Scoobypedia has a couple of relevant articles (see links below). What ever you do, the first thing is to read the fault code to see what you are dealing with - guessing will only be costly in the long run. http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/CELFix http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...lectronicCELFix http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...ReadingECUCodes -Steve.
  8. EDM MY03 WRX DIY remap! 28.1mpg :-) but ... Fuel costs per year are £3,800 :-(
  9. seano, The 'cut-to-the-chase' instructions are here: http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105985 And the more detailed instructions are here: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-install/60...-fuel-pump.html I've got it on my to-do's list to add as a Scoobypedia technical article. -Steve.
  10. I've been using EcuExplorer for a while. With the main developer now stopped development (he released it Open Source) I now recommend to you back Enginuity. This is an active community still. I'm now using Enginuity Logger and the 'dashboard' is particularly nice. -Steve.
  11. Dal, I'd be interested to know on what grounds is he holds you accountable for and thus claiming on your insurance? I can't see imagine anything other than you had a custom alarm system which informed you your car was being stolen via mobile phone, you then preceded to press the electric stock button which in turn sent 10,000 volts through the thieves backside causing him to crash :-)
  12. Interesting thread this ... I'm quite a newbee on here however been in the Scooby scene for a while now and thought I'd share my observations on the SIDC. Although my profile says I'm a 'moderator' this is more honorary over my Scoobypedia connection so comments below are simply as I personally see them: The Club seems noticeably more professional than most Forums. The difference feels to me like the SIDC is a Club first and Forum second. That might go some way to explain the 'PCness' comments above. I would definitely agree they are quite strict but would not quite go as far to say 'PCness'. I get to see the moderators comments when you guys 'Report' threads to the team and the Admins discuss and take action as required. Most of the time I see logical decisions being made that seen reasonable to me. From the tone of most posts I see, and my email exchanges with 'The Management', it seems the Club is committed to its members especially financially - I think they have to work harder to run a non-profit club _for_ the members vice a commercial enterprise for themselves. Back to 'the forum'... Quality of advise seems of very high quality on here. I think this club may have members with a lot of first hand experience to draw from. Where people provide advice from other sources (for example where they don't have first-hand experience) then it seems they provide a reference and/or attribution which is a professional thing to do. Recommendations for improvement... See if you can partner with more well known Experts in their field and have more focused 'Experts Clinics'. For example like the one you have for "Sigma Sam" where members can post there questions to the expert. I really like the Q & A idea above. Recommend you start a thread listing common questions, links to answers or related material. This is now biased but ... I'm happy to collate the Q & A's and create an initial SIDC Q&A article on Scoobypedia to encourage you all to edit/correct as required. Not sure how similar this will be to the new SIDC FAQ that I know Phil has plans to get updated. Also pointed out above, valuable generic technical discussions and advice can get buried within the various geographic community forums which others might not be subscribed (read listening) to. Take this thread for instance. Is this not a generic site improvement thread? I only saw this because I use the sites RSS feed! Unprofessionally, I'm just agreeing with the issue raised here with no recommendation to make that better. The 'For Sale' sections are always difficult. I'd love to see something a little more unique than I see on any other club/forum - call it an eb8y-lite, where you can bid on items and the club take a small percentage/cut of anything sold - monies raised perhaps could be used to purchase performance/styling modifications (or vouchers for these) which official club members would automatically be entered into a draw of some kind to win. Talk about take with one hand and give back (to members) with another ;-) -Steve.
  13. Yep, you are not going to want to copy anyones copyrighted material. Don't forget, the original ECU image which the tuners tweek is also copyrighted by Subaru. Perhaps the tuners (excluding official PPP versions) have a license to do this already?
  14. Agree with ScoUK above. I would never advise anyone to flash someone else's ECU ROM image. You should always start from your own. Compare someone else's modified map with their original map. We have a large database of original ECU images on the ECU Compatibility page below: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...mpatibilityList You compare these maps using the tools referenced on Scoobypedia. Then you can carefully copy the modified maps individually across to _your_ original ROM once you understand what they are changing. If you don't understand ask questions.
  15. You have a sensible head on your Sir. I'm sure you'll have trusted help on here. -Steve.
  16. scottstiprodrive, For cable info see the 'Connecting to your ECU' Scoobypedia article: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...ectingToYourECU I recommend you also get the Flash Block connector for $9 so you don't have to mess around (like me) and jumper the flash block connector with wires pushed in the end ;-) Not sure what Phil thinks but you might already have a ' SIDC ECU crew' helping out ;-) What specifically did you have in mind? -Steve.
  17. Just spotted your post CharlieP. The Open Source project ECUFlash can not yet download/upload to Classic's. There have been hints at progress on this however I'm not aware that this has changed. The cable will not be the same. We do however have one ECU image from a late EU classic on the ECU database - AE802. IIRC the previous years ECU image - AE801 - was the one everyone used to try to get there hands on. You'll see below, that everything else is Newage: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...mpatibilityList -Steve.
  18. In short yes I would recommend it however there is _a lot_ of information scattered everywhere. I've spent a long time over there over the last couple of years. I assume you are thinking of DIY ECU tuning. If so you might be better having a read up on Scoobypedia where I have written a lot down to shorten the learning curve ;-) See link below: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU Once you've had a read, please don't hesitate to post your questions on this forum. -Steve.
  19. No probs, thanks for the Scoobypedia recommendation :-)
  20. Just a quick clarification from Scoobypedia. We do not sell ODBII cables, however we do link to a place that sell them mainly because these cables are compatible with various OpenSource (read: free) software also described in the 'ECU' section of our site. Perhaps you want to perform some diagnostics / data logging or may be even reflash your own maps? References: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Kno...leManufacturers -Steve.
  21. H4AFY, you can adjust tyre sizes however you'll have to do some research. Note you can't simply change to sizes you mention above as you'll be changing the rolling circumference of the wheels thus making your speedo inaccurate. As a rule, if you increase the width of your tyre (e.g. 205) you'll need to reduce the profile (e.g. 45). Again seek advice from a trusted specialist as they can advice on handling issues also. If you're interested I found a tyre conversion chart on the following web site that demonstrates what I've said above. http://www.performancetyresdirect.co.uk/co.../converter.html -Steve. P.S: I have no connection with the above company.
  22. soapy, I agree with the above. Mine has done it (MY03 WRX) ever since the cooling system was drained and refilled during a major service. It has been done again since and still does as you explain. Now out of warranty, my _trusted_ after market specialist says it is very difficult to get rid this minor air lock in the heater matrix. Still really annoying though :-(
