  6. This was a reply posted by Alan barrs navigator and long time friend Bill Ballantyne on one of the rally forums; "As you all know, Alan suffered a major heart attack during last weekend's Border Counties Rally and despite all efforts, died at 4am on Friday 25th March. Our thoughts must now be with Moira, Ashley and Pamela, Alan's mother, sisters and family. At times like this, people always say to "remember the good times". It shouldn't be too hard; with Alan, they were all good times. I'm fortunate to have 30 years worth! We would appreciate it if you could leave a goodwill message or your thoughts in our guestbook at Book of Condolance as well as here. We also hope to have this thread saved to allow your messages of sympathy to be passed to the family. Details of the funeral arrangements will be posted on our website in due course. Once again our thanks to all involved in caring for Alan over the last week. Bill Ballantyne

  8. Just to let the rally world know that Alan barr lost his fight for life at 4am this morning. Our thoughts are with his wife Moira and the kids and all at Albarr rally team at this very sad time. From all at GMC-MOTORSPORT
  9. Official statement "An incident occurred in Kielder Forest on the Buck Fell special stage of the Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally at 10.15am on Saturday morning. Alan Barr the driver of a Subaru Impreza suffered a suspected heart attack and, as he was nearing the end of the stage, elected to drive to the finish. Within 200 yards of the finish, the driver collapsed causing the car to leave the road and roll over. The rally emergency services were on the scene almost immediately and took both crew members to the ambulance rendezvous point in Kielder village. From there, they were airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital where the driver is currently receiving treatment." My thoughts and best wishes go to Alan Barr and hope he is well and makes a speedy recovery. Davie Hatrick and all at GMC-MOTORSPORT

  16. Ian, you will find as time goes by that many people will say they will help, volunteer, assist,be at your beck and call, just name it and i will do type of folks say and never do. For example we nearly had to cancell the DCC stages at Ingliston last year due to broken promises but due to other members of the club and service crews who assisted in set up and clear up the event went ahead and ran well. Say you get 10 people willing to help out,6 of those will cancell proir to the event,2 would rather go spectating and 2 will turn up to lend a hand with all but the die hards stay and clear up. We didnt get finished clearup at knockhill till after 10.30pm and with minus 4 degress i can tell you it wasnt fun but who elso was there to lend a hand, not the crews/service or spectators JUST THE 6 SET UP CREW!!! Most of the time we compete but if we cant or wont then the first thing we do is volunteer to help the others at events. Just my 2p worth mate. Hope you get a better response to this than i get elsewhere.

  24. Hi Ian, great day but did think at 9am the event would have to be cancelled due to ice on track and the safety issue thingy. John Marshall of Beatsons building supplies saved the day with lorry loads of salt/grit. Feckin freezin though and i was start line marshal for stages 9/10 cos nobody else wanted to. Left circuit at 10pm after stage clear up and slept all day on sunday!!! Only downside of the day was that Ricky Wheeler had 2 brand new minilite alloys lifted by somebody unknown
