  1. merry Christmas t' all op norf from me dan souf!
  2. it has happened to a couple of others i know too. it seems that with the little amount of rain we've had recently after a nice(ish) summer has made the roads greasy and the spills are just sitting on top of the road surface and not getting washed away. glad you too didn't have any damage apart from the curbing on the alloys, it could have been much worse. it made me very weary to the point that i have just changed the tyres. i know that no tyre will grop through the spills but at least i feel safer on the greasy roads.
  3. yeah......BMW drivers! enough said! wouldn't catch me in one of them ..........(at least not until the summer and roof down weather )
  4. or.......maybe they want to cash in on the fact that Subaru won't be selling the WRX in the uk????
  5. good luck. tell us what it's like before and after the mods have been done?
  6. gutted! he was a good actor and an all round petrol head (or gear head in the US). RIP Paul Walker.
  7. I am just glad, in a strange sort of way, that in 2011 a young girl who had just passed her test nearly killed me and put an end to 25 years of motorcycle riding and I ended up with cars instead as that could have been fatal if I was on 2 wheels. I had a good look at the car today and it seems I did catch the very edge of the rims on the curb but nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of touch up. I had to look really close to see it so I'm not too bothered by it. I also found the diesel splattered up both sides (mixed with mud) and it still stinks of the stuff......a good wash is in order tomorrow.
  8. I decided to go over to Ross motorsport club with a mate last night (I used to be a member when I was road rallying 10 years ago) and we had a great night meeting people and talking cars. anyway, on the home I showed my mate how much difference the remap had made to my car and so I was driving quite briskly down the lanes. after a few miles we came across a car in front so I slowed right down to 30 ish. The car turned off and for some reason I thought I would take it easy for the rest of the drive home. We went round the next bend at 30ish and then immediately hit a patch of spilled diesel. I smelt it then I saw it then all hell broke loose. All 4 wheels lost all traction and the car slid towards the large drop on the nearside. Bracing ourselves for the worst, the car suddenly gripped again and due to the nose now pointing towards the other side of the road, we ended up in the path of an oncoming car! I don't how but I managed to gain control and get the car back on track and avoid the nightmare that could have been. To say I s*** myself is an understatement and apart from some mud splattered on the side of the car all ended well. So, it doesn't matter what tyres you have fitted or the fact that you have 4wd, if you hit a diesel spillage it is worse than hitting sheet ice! All I need to know now is how to get passenger's tightly gripped finger marks out of the dashboard and what is the best seat cleaning method?
  9. I just warm up the engine with the heater on full (with air con) and rear demister. it seems to defrost quicker than my old fords with heated windscreens.
  10. yeah, my boost peaks at 1.2 at 2500rpm then falls off to 1.0 bar at 4500rpm (approx.). if I do get any problems I have been told there are upgraded head bolt sets and gaskets that can be fitted so I'll go for these. I'll see how it goes. if I decide to go to the vf 35 then I'll do this as a precaution but for now the power I have gives a good grin factor.
  11. apparently, and this is from a couple of specialists / tuners I have spoken to, it's not the boost that blows the gaskets. it is due to the heads moving slightly due to larger bores / weaker studs on 2.5 which leads to HG failure. it can happen to a car running standard boost too just luck of the draw.
  12. yeah, just awesome....can't wait to get the vf35 now
  13. well, as some of you may have read in some of my other posts, i drove to Indigo GT in Wales today to meet Duncan (racedynamix) for my remap on the rolling road. i wasn't sure if the car had a PPP or not as it had the exhaust but had no sticker from prodrive but as it turns out it was a standard ECU and no PPP. so starting from a standard 2.5 wrx map, Duncan worked his magic and i now have 284.2BHP and 329.6Lbft torque. i am well pleased with the results, she pulls like a train with full boost (now 1.2 bar) coming in at 2500rpm.....this is how the WRX should have been from the factory. the mods are: cobra 2nd decat, prodrive centre pipe and cobra back box, cosworth panel filter and walbro 255 fuel pump so i am pleased with the results. next step is a VF35 turbo and possibly a sport cat then another map to get her to approx. 320 - 330 bhp. i would recommend Duncan to anybody and for £350 for the map and £75 for the rolling road hire, it is well worth it (although he will map on the road if the customer wants to) (he also said that just mapping a bog standard WRX will see 250-260bhp and a good leap in torque)
