Hi James,
personally I would say no, not for a decent blobeye.
I bought one in July, a late '03 model with 24000 miles on the clock, it was £8000 and that was the cheapest I'd seen in ages so i paid a deposit before I'd even seen it. I have since spent another grand on new brakes and flaming rear shockers,so not so cheap after all!!!
I'd been keeping my eye on the prices for about 2 years and had never seen one for around £6000 before.
Looking at prices now you would get a decent bugeye for that money but I don't think you'd get a blobeye that you could drive away and not worry about.
You could even get a Prodrive STI bugeye for that money.
I don't think there's much difference mechanically, that you'd notice anyway.
So it's just personal choice on the looks. (And money of course)
Anyway, I hope I've helped a little.
And I hope you get lucky.
Regards Lance.
