I'll have a wee look but it wouldnt be happening for a wee while anyway. Nothing is cheap! So far completely serviced it, replaced all pads, discs, fitted braided brake lines, and filled with RBF 600 fluid. EDIT : replaced with Ferodo DS2500 pads and running Silkolene oils. Next stage is the suspension - front and rear anti roll bars and droplinks, springs, polybushes, anti lift kit. Once that is complete then I can go for more power. Currently have 260 at the wheels. Havent a clue what that would be at the fly - any ideas? Thanks mate, the scoop came with the car - I'm used to it now, however would quite like to change it in the future. It actually took the best part of 10 hours to wash, clay, polish and wax! haha White cars and tar are a nightmare!
-
Cheers mate. You also drive a white type R don't you? It is a big scoop! Hard to see over the thing when you are going up a hill! haha Will consider changing it for a reverse scoop once I finally fit a FMIC.

Alright, been around for a wee while now and still not uploaded pics of my car. Been to a couple of the meets so far, so you may have already seen it. Anyway heres some pics - as you can tell I'm no photographer!
-
My god, that will be awesome. But I dont think I could do that to my car! Must cost a fair bit aswell?
-
Was a cracking day. Seen squiggle but I was walking about at the time and you never seen me. Also seen Sti Pretender walking about. Beetroot red face when I got home!

Motul RBF 600. Some good stuff.

Looking schweet! Mud flats are almost touching the ground! I would be avoiding multi story car parks if I were you! lol You must be earning too much money! haha

Yeah I've heard about people wishing it was a bit lower with the Eibachs. But also heard that the Flatout springs are more for looks as opposed to handling performance which I'm not sure if thats true. There are also the whiteline control springs so really just looking for a couple of peoples experiences with each before I make a decision. Cheers for the input.

Only got halfway through sorting the brakes out! Not to mention it was bucketing down! haha Got a couple of exams next week aswell so gave it a miss, will be back at the next one.
-
Ok, well basically since I've got the car its had its major service. Next I done the brakes - Ferodo DS2500 pads, zerosport grooved disks, HEL braided brake lines, RBF600 brake fluid. Now I want to sort out the suspension, it seems to feel very soft - previous cars have had coilovers. Whats the best first steps? Don't have a mega budget so I would like to know whats going to improve it the most without big bucks. So would that be droplinks, anti roll bars and springs? or search for some coilovers in the for sale section? Thinking about some Whiteline Flatout Springs, rear anti roll bar and droplinks just now. Whats the consensus? For a V4 Type R. Cheers

Well I have only had a very limited experience of Impreza's until now, so I am still learning stuff about my model, so its unlikely that I know what brakes other models have! Similarly, the type r despite being a 1996/7 has the brakes that are normally fitted on 1998-2007. I knew there are subaru 4 pots and brembo 4 pots so thats where the doubt about which one was which came from. Anyway, didnt go with godspeed, managed to get them for 125 quid which was a damn site cheaper than any of the other suppliers I contacted. Apex Performance Parts in Bradford for anyone interested. Cheers again, G

Cheers guys, Ordering up a set of ds2500's today from godspeed. Should make some difference, brakes have felt like crap since I bought the car.
-
Yes mate, they are the Ferodo pads. It's thrown me off because my car is a 1997 but has the Subaru 4 pots so wasn't sure, which ones were right and didnt want to take the pads off to check! So its actually the 98-07 4 Pot 986H that are the Subaru 4 Pots? Cheers!
-
Which of the above are the Subaru 4 pots? I think they are the "96-98" ones, assuming the "98-07 4 pot" are the brembos?. Just making sure before I order them. Cheers

Tell me about it. Just lucky I noticed it beginning to overheat and not letting it get too hot. Carried out the head gasket test for exhaust gases in the coolant anyway and no issues there. Just a pain but its an old car, got to expect to do some work on it every now and again.

Well, got the thermostat out yesterday and dunked it in some boiling water, no movement what so ever. So that solved that one! New thermostat and coolant from Subaru and its sorted! The coolant I was told to get was phosphate free. Simple fix, cheers for the help!
-
Hi guys, Ordered a thermostat along with some coolant from Subaru. Waiting on it arriving, hopefully tomorrow. Get it replaced and the system flushed and see where that takes us! I think it might be a combination of air lock and faulty thermostat. Heres hoping anyway! Cheers so far, will keep you updated! Graham

I couldn't tell you when the fan kicked in but I can tell you that it didn't get the temp back down. Only way to get the temp down was to go fast or turn off the engine. But as I said there was no hot water in the radiator so thats why the fan wasn't getting the temps down. Something is stopping the hot water going through the radiator to cool it down. I was thinking thermostat, waterpump or air lock. I'll do the coolant change first, rule out the air lock. Once that is done, I will run it and see what happens. To check if there is a leak is there a compression test I can do? Sure I read something about it. And I would guess do a test like that I would need to drain the coolant therefore it might be worth doing it before I do the coolant change?
-
A coolant change is on the cards mate, replaced all fluids recently other than the coolant. Was planning on doing it this weekend then this happened. Only reason I left it was because I couldn't find out which coolant I should be using! Loads of folk saying you can't use this and can't use that but no-one actually says what you CAN use! I have been suspecting an air lock recently but was just leaving it as I would sort it when doing the coolant flush. What coolant can I use then? Is Halfords stuff OK? Would prefer just to be able to go and pick some up today rather than wait on delivery. Graham

Alright, Was through in Lochgoilhead at the weekend, coming back was giving it some eventually came up to gridlock as soon as I got to the traffic my car started overheating. Water temps were rising, once it got to 100 i pulled in as soon as i could. As soon as it cooled down it would be overheating again by the time I started moving. When driving at 50mph or more it would be fine (86/87) but as soon as I slowed down rising quickly. Highest it reached was 115. Anyway the top pipe on the radiator was very hot, the radiator itself was stone cold, the bottom pipe was cold and the fan was working. There was no steam, no leaks, no overflows from expansion tank. Does this point towards a thermostat problem? Ironic that only 2 weeks ago Squiggle was recommending I bought a zero/sports cool running thermostat! Anyway, what do you think it is likely to be? Faulty thermostat, air lock, etc? Thanks guys

As I said at the meet the other week mate, the car is an awesome machine. Take it you have seen the videos on youtube of Trial Impreza's? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9ZXW7cF-5A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0lN7jy9e0g Can't wait to see what this thing is capable of with the boost raised.

Just to give you an update. Managed to get the job without any major problems! Thank god! It was a ******* to get the actual rocker cover out. I managed to get the 6 bolts off fine, but actually pulling it up was a mission. Anyway, problem now sorted and I have a nearly full tube of three bond left over, wish I had bought a smaller tube! lol Expensive stuff too, think I've got a lifetime supply of it! Cheers for the help guys.

Cheers guys, Its just the drivers side, as usual, got to the point where its doing my tits in. Just need to make sure I don't break anything in the process like I normally do! Also heard about danger of breaking the coil packs. Plan on just swinging them round out the way. And I've heard about over tightening them, don't fancy snapping a bolt!

Going to attempt this tonight, i'm assuming that I will need to dump the oil first? Take it there would be some oil still sitting in the head?
