  1. After being told categorically not to buy a crank that doesnt have bearings set to match, I am looking for the best value place to get these. I will be splitting my block and fully rebuilding. I basically need new rings, a new crank and big end/main bearings. Dont think i need anything more than that for a rebuild? (unless im being daft lol) I tried API/GrahamGoode/RCM etc etc. These seem to be hittin around 400...............for just the crank lol. For the aforementioned parts, will i be looking at about 600 odd quid? cheers
  2. done good sir!
  3. believe me mate the thought of selling the car is well on the cards. The block itself has done approx 70k miles. Turbo 15k miles (reciepts to proce) superb stainless decatted system with stainless custom exhaust manifold and downpipe. New rad just over a year ago, Loads reciepts for work carried out. I think its possibly just a new crankshaft thats gonna be needed, shich i dont have the tech knowhow, time, patience, money to fix lol. The car is sitting idle in my garage on Legacy Blackwidow 17's, has 2 brand new tires on and two very good condition ones. Just out of curiousity, If i rebuild n its still gubbed, much would u give me for it? Car is in lovely nick all round except that it dont wanna start lol. PM uf u wanna and we can have a wee chat
  4. nobody know how much im looking to pay to get my timings checked and if necessary sorted?
  5. very nice motor, just by the by, those houses look like the new ones build near Dundee...?
  6. I find myself in a bind.... I need to rebuild my head to see if the issue I had has been corrected, however I dont see the point shelling out on steel; gaskets when im not 100% if its gonna be sorted. If i bought; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEAD-GASKET-SET-SUBA...bayphotohosting just as in intermediary, woudl this fit my motor, I got a 93 plate import WRX. Cheers
  7. Hey again folks, After a long drawn out tale of woe as some of you may know I split my engine down to the bare bones the other day. SYMPTOMS: Driving home at mayb 90mph, heard a clunk, massive drop in power, knock link constant spiking to red, eventually car rolled to a stop and refused to start. Then after a tow in to my garage, it started but was making a horrendous clanging noise. Garage recommended new engine. ONCE WE BROKE THE ENGINE DOWN: No scoring on the inside of any cylinders. No damage to any cams, valves etc etc. No damage to the bottom end. No damage or play in the big ends, No shrapnel in the sump or oil filter. SO! I called Duncan at Hypertech and he mentioned that it sounded like my valve timings had gone ski-wiff. Something aout the hydrolics of the car when coming off and on power can knock the timing by a few teeth or something. Was just wondering has anyone heard of this, and or experienced this? If so any ideas how much it costs (once built back up) to get a garage to sort it? Cheers
  8. I see your point, but the highly trained drivers dont drive the 1.4 hatchbacks. They get the fun toys to play with. And also, please please remember, its not the Police that deal with people. We are the investigators, we report circumstances. The courst, and in your nephews case probably a Sheriff would have dictated the punishment. Nothing the Police can do will effect the outcome of a trial, we purely present evidence at hand.
  9. End of the day, Police Forces dont pay our prices for cars anyway. We just picked up 5 Mitsubushi Pajero's 08 plates for less than around 80k. They sell in the show rooms for over 20. massive saving. And just to pick up on Ritchies point, Strathclyde dont OWN the chopper, its Scotlands helecopter, just that since Strathclyde is the biggest force in Scotland, they get it staying at their house . Moot point, but hey lol! I dont get y buy a scoob either, we jus bought 3.0 passats, and they shift at a fair rate of knots, all about the driver anyhow, give a traffic cop a decent enough can, and in urban areas he willl keep up with most car thieves (when allowed)
  10. how did you get the original big 20 mil bolt out? when i try to turn it it turns the engine over lol.
  11. excuse my ignorance, a three legged puller? possible ebay link or similar so i know what im loooking for cheers
  12. We are down the the guts of it now, just the block to disasemble. HOWEVER! Im guessin that sub's like others is better to leave the engine at TCD (cant remember if thats right but piston 1 at top). I have it all lined up going by the markings on the cogs, but how do i unscrew the crankshaft pully without turning the engine over. I am guessing that there is some way of jamming (for lack of a better word) something in through the hole in the pully to prevent the engine from turning over. Ideas? of if poss a page no on the guide on www.cannell.co.uk/manuals.htm cheers
  13. Hey folks, Started dismantlin my engine, gettin to the nitty gritty bit. For the re-assemble I think we will need a haynes or similar, I cant seem to find any on ebay etc tho. I have a 93 (L) wrx import. Does anyone know where I can find a haynes? Even if its just a downloadable one Ill print it off. Cheers folks
  14. oh, by the by, anyone got advice on where to get a full gasket set as ill need one for when i rebuild engine. Cheers
  15. Well, as some of you may know, my wrx went pop a month or so ago, been advised by garage to get a new engine. however, I took it upon myself (along with the help of a trusty m8) to do a little digging into my problem We have removed most of the auxiliaries and are down to the head. from when we can see via the sump and lookin down through the inlet areas, there doesnt seem to be much damage at all, there was little to no mess in the sump when it came off, very odd again considering the car popped, stopped and wouldnt start again. So basically we gonna take the heads off and have a look and see, im hopin for something simple and reasonable priced to fix. and by the by, hop annoying is it getting the sump off when u got a aftermarket exhaust manifold, bloody thing took us about 2 hours to get the bloody thing off ah well, will certainly keep u all updates and if we hit any bumps, be sure that you will be gettin asked G
  16. Ill give my professional oppinion here, Unless its changes, you have a 14 day period of grace to display new disc, so you should be fine. But incase, i would print off your e-receipt and carry it with ya, I know if i seen a car with a few days out of date tax, i may ask them about it, but not gonna give them a FPN for it................unless its a nova/corsa/VTR maybe G
  17. i have advertised on here for 1500, goin by other classics i could prob get about 3.5-4k + for it wit a new 97+ classic engine dropped in. my pal got some annual leave comin up, we gonna have a peek in the guts of the beast, see what the final damage is, if i been lucky (slim slim chance) not to have cost too much damage, might jus b a fix n sell job dependin on figures. would love to keep it, but not a clue lol, dunno if its worth the hassle, could prob get a bit for the tubby and the exhaust. interior in good nic, and the doors/panels etc. oh, alloys are decent too, legagy black widow 17's gawd just tooo many things to think on
  18. Hey folks, My 93 JDM WRX been in my garage for a while now, havent had a chance to look at the internals on the engine, but am still about 90% its a conrod thats snapped, So i got 3 options now 1) sell as a project cat/strip and sell 2) Have engine rebored (on the cheap as i know a dude that owns an engineering company) and put forged pistons etc in 3) Buy a new (reconditioned) engine, and drop that in (I would go with the later spec classic engine if i could, slightly more power. Now, what i am curious to see is, if i did either 2 or 3, would it be worth it in the long run? I may end up selling after its fixed anyway and gettin a more up to date version (possibly around an 03-04 plate. The new engines come in at around 800 quid, totally been stripped out, any parts that need it have been replaced, less than 22k miles on engine and 6 month warranty. Forged pistons etc seemin to be comin in around 400 or so. Any boffins out there care to take a stab at this one? Car is just sitting idle at the moment, and it breaks my heart every time i open my garage and see it just barely existing . Cheers
  19. think im gonna spit and sell, then once my wedding past buy a tasty flying machine
  20. i got quoted well from admiral, mayb worth a look
  21. i was gettin 200 to the tank driving some fast some slow
  22. gimme the reg, ill find out who it is
  23. very nice dude, tidy car all round
  24. i'm Arbroath dude, and to be honest its a limited budget im on, so a 2.3 or 2.5, as desireable as that would be, is probably out of the question. I might just strip my engine and rebore, throw some forged in, depending on how that hits the wallet, least that way the car be worth mroe in the long run
  25. well seein as i have more or less scuppered my wrx, was curious as to if a 96-98 engine for a classic would fit into my 93? is there much difference between the two other than the 96-98 being slightly higher powered? cheers folks (looks like i might be keepin my scoob in the garage til its fixed...... )
