hey folks, was on the way home from work last night and my car decided to more or less just stop. was giving it a bit of juice, as you do, when my knock link went crazy right into the red and the car just gradually lost power until it finally came to a halt. It is not refusing to start, it will start for maybe 2 seconds then stall, sounds like a tractor trying to start up. any ideas? car is halfway between home and work, need to get the fker towed back in lol cheers UPDATE FOR 05/04/2008 JUST TOWED THE CAR TO MY MUMS GARAGE, AND LOW ANE BEHOLD, IT STARTED. DIDNT RUN IT FOR LONG DUE TO THE KNOCK LINK SITTING 1 OFF THE MAX AND A HORRENDOUS BANGING (METAL TO METAL BY THE SOUNDS OF IT) COMING FROM THE ENGINE, AS YOU LOOK AT THE ENGINE BAY I WOULD SAY IT IS AT THE RIGHT HAND SIDE JUST UNDER THE INTERCOOLER. IM THINKING STILL A BIG PROBLEM, BUT NEONE WITH SOME KNOWHOW SHED ANY MORE LIGHT? Cheers

Well, It all started when i decided to get married. So sold my Celica GT4 and bought a Subaru Impreza WRX (put the difference in the wedding fund). On the way back form picking the Impreza up, the check engine light came on. After much digging and hair pulling moments, i found that the error codes were 24 and 33. I managed (with a little E-Help) to sort the code 24. But the ever irritating code 33 seemed here to stay. I tried posting on several Impreza sites, everything i tried didn't help. I tried calling several Subaru specialists, no one seemed to know what the issue was. Then i was pointed to Duncan at Hypertech, after sending him a few photos of my ECU etc, he advised that the SML-M thing i had installed may be the problem. He pointed me toward the pin on the ECU that deals with the speed sensor, upon inspection i found that this indeed had been snipped to add this SML-M thing in. So with a hope and a prayer, i disconnected this connection. Still didn't work, BUT THEN! out of the corner of my eye, i seen that another wire leading to the SML-M was connected to the same colour of wire that went into the speed sensor port. Hmmmm i thought, could it be as simple as connecting these 2 back up? So long story short, i got fed up and tried it. Checked the ECU for codes, 33 was still there, so with a heavy heart i did a quick wee reset, and let me tell you, there was nearly a tear in my eye when i got the CEL flashing at 0.5 second intervals! HURRAH!! After three weeks of driving an Impreza restricted to 4500 rpm and 95 mph, i can drive properly again. well now i bored you all i'm off for a wee drive.........

Right folks, after yet more digging i still not managed to sort my code 33. GRRR!! I was pointed to the SML-M i had installed onto my ECU. One of the wires was going into the port on the ECU that the speed sensor used (second block of pins from the right, bottom row, second pin in from the left). I checked this and found that one of the wires from this little gadget in my car. So after a little advice from Duncan at Hypertech, i have disconnected this wire, thought this might work, but it didnt. Now What i was looking for was if any wrx early classic owners know off pat (or are capable of looking) to see if they have any wiring going into the pin mentioned above. As it sits i have no wiring going into it, so am a little bit stuck. Maybe this SML-M has intersected a wire loop thats meant to be going into this port. But i'm not sure. I have attatched a pic of my ecu and the stuff thats attatched

Some little boy in a Clio Sport was ahead of me at the good old traffic lights. I had just reset my ECU so car was runnin peachy. He was revvin like a t**t so i thought, fine, ill burn ya ya t**t. BUT! little did i realise it was a clio sport 3.0 24v, pushin out 255. My nice little 93 wrx still came out on top though.....just. For a wee car, its pretty bloody nippy to be honest, and the power to weight must be quite good. Ah well, just thought i would share

yeah mate both take the code away for about 5 mins then bam, 4500 rpm rev limit. When the CEL comes on during the ecu reset (indicating to stop and disconnect wires) its flashing with the codes. totally stuck :S

Sorry should have said that in original post mate, tried resettin loads, still keeps comin back. Did the normal reset umpteen times aswell as disconnecting the battery :S

Hey folks, Some of the forum monkeys may be aware of soe of the previous problems i have been having. Namely i was getting error codes 24 and 33 to begin with. I managed to sort the code 24 and was left with only the 33. Then today i am still stuck with this infernal code 33, and now for some reason (after i played about with the vehicle speed sensor and the idle control valve, cleaning both) code 12 popped up. I only owned the bloody car for a fortnight, and have not been able to drive it properly as it has been running in safe mode pretty much from day one. I am aware that i could take it to a garage such as town and county (Aberdeen i think is closest?) or AWD (in Perth) but was warned off of this by a colleague who tells me that garages have an 'if in doubt replace and bill the customer' policy. Whether this is true or not i dont really know. So to the point. Does anyone know of, or anyone here have a diagnostic rig that i can hook up to my car to see what the hell the story is? The car has a full decat system, custom manifold, thats about the only mods, running on the standard wrx 93 ECU. Maybe these mods could be throwing up a problem or two? God knows. Anyway i'm completely in the mud here, any ideas or anyone that can help, either reply please or throw a PM my way. My car is a 93 import WRX and i live in Arbroath. Cheers

mint means i know where it is now then. Yeah was thinking about moving the downpipe for more room, unless i can get the missus to do it for me, smaller arms and hands lol. I am hoping ill just need to take it out and give it a wee clean and replace. When i park the car on certain levels, the problem seems to dissapear. so here is hoping! failing that itll be a trip to fleabay for a breaker one i think. cheers muchly

Hey folks, I am considering buying a replacement speed sensor off Ebay and fitting. A last ditched attempt to fix my code 33 before taking it to a garage. Just was curious as to how hard it is? I think i have found the right sensor, it connects to the gearbox with an orange rubber seal over it then leads up toward the dash board with a black block somewhere in the middle? If this is it then i cant see any problems replacing it myself. If i am wrong though, let me know, and if anyone cound post an actual picture of it (from a camera or phone) would be great. Muchly appreciated Gary

Have seen various parts described as being able to suit an impreza turbo GC8, far as i'm aware i can find a list of the cars referring to them as MY**. or be engine code EJ20 etc etc. But nothing has shown up this GC8 thing. Any pointers here? Cheers

Yeah mate car is in safe mode, i have tried the regular green to green and black to black reset, aswell as trying the old fashioned disconnect the battery one, both seem to get rid of the issue for about ooh, 5 minutes lol. Hmm, dont suppose it could perhaps be mailed? or you not willing to take the chance on a posting? you would ofc be gettin it back. Oh, while i got your attention, are there any relativley easy on the wallet ecu upgrades? I seen some on fleabay type RA ones and so forth, dont know if they worth getting or not? Cheers fella

As title really, Due to the water i have recently had in my passenger footwell, was wondering if anyone in my area has an ECU for a 93 wrx import that i could pop into mine to see if my fault is a sensor fault or an ECU one. If anyone got any other ideas as to how i can sort this or find out the cause using an easier method, let me know please Oh, gonna have a play with the speed sensor on the gearbox in the next few days to see if maybe the sensor is just sitting dodgy or perhaps a wire is loose etc etc. Cheers

Hey folks, Anywhere local in the Dundee (ish) area that i can take my car to be put on a dyno and see what kinda power its putting out? Also, since i am having this wee code 33 problem, it would be beneficial if the people were clued up on how to sort 93 classic imports as the limit of 4.5k rpm pissin me right off! lol. Cheers
