  1. Thanks for the advice. Am now in the process of writing a "to buy" list so will see how I get on and hopefully get it mapped in the next few months. Cheers, Peter
  2. Hi, First off, can't believe it has been over a year since I first posted this topic and I still haven't had my car mapped (time flies when you are having fun)!! Anyway spent the last year replacing just about everything else on my car so have decided I am DEFINITELY going to get it mapped in the next few months. As you can probably tell from my first post I am mechanically incompetent so don't really have clue what I need to do in preparation for this (despite everyone's helpful comments). So far the only modification my car has had is the backbox replaced with TSL Group N one so from my understanding/reading other people's posts I need to get the following parts before it is worthwhile getting it mapped:- Uprated Fuel Pump (Warlboro 255 seems to be a popular one) Samco Turbos Hose Set? Decatted Up-pipe - has anyone got any recommendations on what to change this for on 05 Blobeye? Replacement centre section for my exhaust - again has anyone got any recommendations on what to get to connect to my TSL backbox (Meerkat perhaps)? Apologies for all the questions but have been searching through previous posts and can see people who have been in the same position (getting their first remap) but can never work out what parts they have bought/had fitted before getting it mapped. Cheers, Peter
  3. Reading everyones posts has made me feel better and that it is maybe not just me (I actually seem to have come off better than a few people). Is funny that a few people have mentioned flimsy bodywork and thinner paint as I was wondering if this was the case (the paint certainly seems to chip more easily than other cars I have had with the exception of my AX GT). At the end of the day, I suppose Subarus are expensive cars to own and run. I think I just need to worry less about the chips on the paint and enjoy driving it more!!
  4. or just me? Had my red blobeye WRX SL for about 2 years and in that time I reckon I have spent about about £800 getting it resprayed at various times (bumper and bonnet after somebody drove over a wheel trim and in front of me on the motorway and it hit my car, passenger door where somebody with a towbar drove in to it while it was parked, dented it, broke the paint and drove off). To top it off was driving to work on Friday and a Chelsea Tractor in front kicked up a stone which dented and chipped a large area on my passenger front wing - great! Was hoping to save up the pennies to get it remapped but I guess it will now be another trip to the paint shop (apologies for my rant).
  5. Just got a TEIN coilover kit fitted by Hypertech at the weekend (basically because my rear shocks were goosed). Initial impressions are that they don't feel any harder than the standard suspension (and I am running 18"s) and it actually feels slightly less crashy. The only problem I do have is that it has lowered the front by 35mm so the bottom of my mudflaps are about 1cm off the ground (that will be easily sorted when I re-fit them next weekend tho).
  6. Spotted on Saturday (11/10) while I was falling off my mountain bike. Had a Macrae Gathering Sticker on the front window.
  7. Also silver 56 plate BMW 5 series touring with clear lights in the back window that patrols the M9. Just spotted the lights before I was going to overtake it at 75mph (honest guv).....
  8. Would also be interested in any advice anyone has on this as I am in the same boat. Car was at the dealers last week to get some things looked at (including knocking suspension). Informed that that there is excessive play in the 2 rear struts and that I am looking at about £600 to fix. Wouldn't mind so much but car is 3 years 4 months old and now out of warranty although am sure the knocking was there at my last service (30,000 mile /3 year) when the car was in warranty and nothing was mentioned
  9. Just got my car back from Steve Walker tonight and he has done a top job fixing the dent and respraying my door. Price was one of the best I got quoted too....
  10. My car is going in to Steve Walker's Bodyshop (near Bathgate) on Wednesday to get my dent sorted and door painted. Will let you know how I get on but they have been recommended by a few people on here...
  11. Nothing like a fast response eh(not been on the forum much recently)..... That would be me on my way to work - c'mon the Red Scoobs!!
  12. Cheers Paul - just been to a couple of the bodyshops in Stirling and quotes are (£165/£320!!)
  13. Up in Aberdeen for my mate's Stag at the weekend I left my car in the hotel car park for a couple of days. Came back yesterday morning to find that some nice person with a towbar has reversed in to my passenger door leaving a nice dent and broken paint (and no apology note or contact details) Does anyone know any good places to get this repaired in or around the Stirling area? Also I presume as the paint is broken it would have to be a bodyshop rather than one of these dent removal guys? Cheers, Peter
  14. Cool - my first post in the WIY section and also got spotted myself! Apologies for being completely away with it - was going to Skidz to check out prices on Inovit Tarmacs and was also thinking about what to ask when I got to Hypertech to see about making my Scooby go a bit faster!!
  15. Sorry, wasn't paying that much attention. Only spotted you when we left the traffic lights and turned different directions on to Graham's Road.
  16. Used Autokraft in Stirling to get my bonnet and spoiler painted and was happy with the results.
  17. Nice 1 - will give them a bell (had already seen them on the internet but wasn't sure how good they were). Cheers Gus
  18. Hi, Can anyone recommend a good bodyshop in either the Stirling or Edinburgh area? Need to get my front bumper and bonnet sprayed and a new rear spoiler fitted but have no idea where to go. Cheers, Peter
  19. Snowed here in Stirling today too....ok for driving but meant that the local hoodlums were using the cars as targets for their snowballs. Luckily mine only got hit the once.....
  20. Cheers for the replies guys - is really useful. Like fivetide I use my car almost everyday for a 60 odd mile commute so don't want anything too loud or with mental power just a bit of an increase in performance. Suppose I just need to think about what I can afford and whether to go for brand new or second hand parts (not sure I can sell a £1k full exhaust system to the missus that easily).
  21. Hi, As you can probably see from my post count I am fairly new to this site but have owned my Subaru for over a year. It is an 05 WRX SL and is completely standard at the moment which was fine but now fancy a bit more power. As it will be coming up for its third birthday early next year I fancy treating it to some modifications and a remap (hopefully by Andy F). Unfortunately I haven't a clue if there are any other modifications I should do before I arrange to get it remapped (I heard re-mapping a standard car is a waste of time)? Can anyone advise what sort of modifications I should be considering before a re-map? I presume I should be getting rid of the standard exhaust and replacing it with S/S one and possible getting a new air filter - does anyone have any advice on what mods work well with my car? Sorry for all the questions but I am completely clueless to say the least. Cheers, Peter
  22. Was in the office of one of our customers for a training course and looked out the window to see your car. Could just see it parked in the car park through all the scaffolding. Wouldn't have seen mine as had to get a taxi to the office because parking is so poor round there........suppose that is Edinburgh for you!
  23. Think I spotted your car last Wednesday in the Gyle ,Edinburgh. Nice to see that someone else apart from me has a red Scooby. Your car looks class and it has given me some inspiration on what sort of mods I should start doing on mine. Peter
