Help Me Stop The Vandalism - Wiring Question
speech replied to mystery machine's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Unfortunately there is a rather major flaw with this idea!! Do you have cats? If you did you would know that when they are startled they leg it, as you are trying to do with the water to get them off your bonnet. Startled cats will try to move as quickly as possible and will attempt to gain maximum grip on the surface they are on to propel themselves forward - for a cat maximum grip=claws out! Therefore, the worst thing you can do when a cat is on your car is try to scare it away, especially throwing/shooting water at them! Agree with Cal on the Lion dung/urine, have heard that this works quite well. -
Yeah, that S80 loves sitting on the Ellon road - usually spot it tucked in at the turn off for Connon Coal on the stretch of Dual Carriageway heading from Ellon to Aberdeen - loads of folk come pinging up the hill and fly over the top of that blind crest and horse on down not realising that inconspicuos blue Volvo waiting to pull out from the junction is in fact lying in wait.

Fifth Gear ran a similar experiment a few years back with three motors - a mkV Golf GTi, Impreza STi and can't remember the third, maybe a Mini, and 3 different fuels - standard 95RON, BP Ultimate (97RON) and Optimax. Each car was run on a rolling road with usual BHP & torque measurements being taken and between each different fuel run the tanks and fuel lines were emptied and the ecu's reset to give decent results. Bottom line was on the lower powered car (mini??) the different fuels made naff all difference, in the Golf BP Ultimate seemed to give better torque results but the Impreza showed significant gains in both power and torque (up 8BHP I think) whilst using Optimax. Just found out that the third car was a Clio!

If you don't fancy the hassle of importing spacers from the states then funnily enough the ones to use are the ones made for the Corsa C (new one). I had read this online and then when I went into my friendly local Car Audio Specialists (NOT Halfrauds BTW!!) they said the exact same thing as they use them all the time when doing the fitting themselves!

Yep got a £10 voucher to redeem in their shop, might get an iTunes card or something now I'm selling the scoob. I see they have dropped the minimum fill limit for their "fill up 6 times in a month" bonus offers - used to be minimum 30 litres now I see it's only 25, makes it easier to rack up the points that way, and also get's you on first name terms with all the staff since you're never out of the place!!!
-
Don't say that! It's like a kiss of death!!!
-
Seems to be back up and running at full tilt again.
-
Got a few ideas running through my head (there's a fair bit of space up there!!) so hopefully things can be covered, but for the initial period for what it's looking to cost it's not going to break the bank.....
-
I think, and this is only a "think", that the CEL light should go off after 4 restarts once the fault condition has been rectified - ie you have replaced the faulty sensor with a working one - however the fault code will remain logged in the ecu as a historical fault and will remain there until it has been cleared by a diagnostic tool of some description.

Cheers Stephen, now on day 3 and we're still not back up to full strength, make of that what you will!! I think that in the beginning the free board option suited things as the club was never imagined to get as big as it has by the guys who started the whole thing off, however I think we are now just too big and need to look at "proper" hosting services to save all this hassle every few months!
-
Funny you should pop up Andy as I was going to p.m. you to ask what hosting service SIDC use - any chance you could send through some details mate, once I get back on to the current forum I'll be taking a download of all the data and look into moving to a more reliable and stable host, even if that means paying for it...... But aye, Aberdonians through and through us lot - grippy as f@@k!!
-
No, unfortunately it's affecting everyone, and not just our board either! freephpbb3's homepage is slowly coming back to life although none of the links work and there's still some residual mySQL error messages in the header of the page. Fingers crossed all the data is still there.....
-
Our host (freephpbb3.com) have been working on upgrading their software, unfortunately this seems to have hit the stability of their servers. I was able to get on a couple of times yesterday but in the most part it was down, as was their support forums. I wish they would at least tell us about their "planned updates", this isn't the first time that they have made a change to their software and had the whole lot come and go on a random basis like this. I realise it's a free service but a bit of customer care/support wouldn't go a miss, this was one of the main reasons we left iforumer as they went belly up for over a week before they eventually admitted there was a problem and even then they were not forthcoming with details. So I'm afraid we are just going to have to sit tight and wait on this one, again, and hope that it all comes back up as it was before.

Was away to say, £6.50 is cheap for a pint over in Norge!!!!
-
I am aware of a place in the Aberdeenshire area although don't have exact details, you have a message that should hopefully help you and your mate out.
-
As I said over on AS that sucks mate - just one of those "unique" problems that we have up this neck of the woods when it comes to trying to organise events..... Oh, and PM awaits on AS about what you have said RE accomodation..........
-
Would definately agree with you there bud, when I had my alloys off being powder coated WUZ was kind enough to lend me a set of his with brand new R888's on! Had them on for just over a week and during that time managed to try them out in both wet and dry and was surprised at how well they coped in the wet. In the dry however - simply Awesome!
-
I wouldn't say it looks unfinished, well not anymore! I used to feel the same as you but the more I saw cars in general with just the rears done the more I appreciated the look. When I picked up the scoob she had tints all round, but after a couple of days the front passenger film started to peel, so to save any hassle from the boys in blue I decided to just pull off the fronts, really like the look of it now! Not the greatest pics, and it's a saloon, but might give you an idea - rears are a medium/dark tint (not limo black or anything like that) and the fronts are now clear.

Sorry that I had to do a fast exit after going on the rollers, had a Stag do to get to (mate was waiting for me back at mine!) Some good figures posted up there, and was shocked when I heard about ScoUK's motor! Did everyone get 3 power runs? Think he mentioned that that's what the normally does but wasn't going to do 3 runs on mine since it was running lean and that I should get it checked out! Anyway, from the graphs it was 273.0BHP, about 273 FtLb of torque at about 17PSI of boost, so not far off Andy F's Road Dyno results of 280BHP and 293FtLb torque. All in all not too worried about the numbers, and besides, got a VF35 and STi pink injectors still to go in along with another trip to Port Seaton.......

Using cooking oil itself is not an offence, but you must keep strict records of how much you are using and then at the end of the year if you have used over xxxxlitres you are liable to pay duty on the excess litres over that amount which you get to use "duty free". If you were pulled over and found to be using it then they might choose to inform HM Revenue & Customs (or whatever they call themselves these days) that you use cooking oil and the tax man may show up at some point to inspect your records and claim his massive chunk of tax. Swines...........

Someone posted details and pics the other day (I think) and for the front there's a plate just above where the trolley jack is in Welsho's first pic (behind the plastic undertray and beneath the ARB) and for the rear best bet is put a block of wood on your trolley jack plate and jack her up using the rear diff.

I actually remembered this morning and have filled my tank up with some of Tesco's finest 99RON at their Ellon station, so for those in the vacinity there's a solution to the current V-Power shortages and also all those coming through to the RR day at Japerformance can rest in the knowledge that they will be able to fill up with some 99RON go-go juice before going on the rollers! So, 99RON a plenty at Tesco Ellon!
-
Would like to point out that the new Tesco in Ellon stocks 99RON, whether or not it's got any at the moment I don't know, meant to go up this morning before I headed on in to work but forgot about it! Will have a look later tonight and confirm but just wanted to let those who are coming to the RR day that 99RON is available in Ellon, it's not as backward a place as many think!!
-
All of the Shell stations in Aberdeen are out of V-Power! One of the guys on AS phoned them all up this afternoon and all are out, apparantly they're saying it's looking like they wont get any in before the end of the week! Not good............

Here you go bud: Stu
