Dropping engine is realtively easy to do. Some of the bolts are a little akward but not an issue if your so so with a spanner. Have you got a place to do this?.... on the street is not really much fun especially if its pishin' doon ;(
Yeah I have a workshop down in Inchinnan, one farm up from where AVA is. Im an apprentice Ag engineer, so plenty of tools as well!!

Where do you live dude?
Live in Barrhead just outside Paisley!

Spotted a Wagon in the "For Sale" section that scientific steve is selling. How difficult is it to drop a flat four in, and is there someone on here who is a dab hand at it that fancies making some cash?
Fingers crossed the cars available.

I can't believe that when I was filling up recently and I noticed V-Power was something like 122p
I actually thought, 'Oh, that's cheap'!!!
because it was a few pence cheaper than last time.
Can you remember when we broke the pound for the first time!?
Oh to go back to those days!!
Morrisons near Ardeer where I was working this morning. 95 RON was 110 a litre. Think I wet my drawers when I saw it! Sorry state of affairs eh...

Shake N Bake means... I have no idea! I seen it on the back of the Gumball 3000 STi car, see here: http://www.gumballsti.com/images/800-targa003A_resize.jpg
Thanks for the comments all
Each to their own, aint against graphics at all its just how you like them that makes all the difference. 'Shake n Bake' are what the two racing drivers are dub named in Talladega Nights!

GO ON MY SON!

Went to see the car this afternoon. Met DRB5's Dad who was an absolute gent, spent around an hour just chatting to him. Very helpful. Car has been locked in a container since last October, is in immaculae condition for its age with just a small mark on the passenger seat that squints the perfectionists eye. A good detail should see the car looking like it did when it left the factory. Now I need to speak to Mr Bank Manager...

Great deal with Ian at Godspeed.
Superfast service as well. I got my four pots fully re-conditioned and painted, new vented grooved discs and carbone lorriaine pads done for £360...
Thats a pretty good deal, is tht done on-site?

Have been toying with buying DRB5's Impreza but as he's on holiday, I cannot view the car. Problem being Im not in the area often, and I have limited time to see the car. Does anyone know where he stays in Balloch or where the car could be sitting so I can go have a peek?
-
Cracking car bud. Just out of curiosity, are these cars steep to buy being limited?
-
Nah they arent expensive new at all. Theres a Subaru scrapyard in Paisley just of Neilston Road. Guys a bit of a tanker though.

Hi mate,
Glad to hear you're getting another Scooby!!!
Hi Richie, hows things? We still ok for the McRae run?
Yeah taking my time this time, understanding better what exactly I want out the car and basing judgements on purchase with a lot of information ive gained from here. Ideally RA, as ive seen a good few of them in my pricerange, allbeit their rough around the edges but I guess thats what I want from a project.

Nice car mate, in and out of Kirkintilloch a lot with work so I'll keep my eyes peeled for you bud. Personal opinion is keep the wheels, and powdercoat them anthracite. Seen them that way before and they look outstanding.

Personally i think you should go for the silver classic stewart
then i can buy DRB5's white one.
On a more serious note if you are interested in his i have a contact number for his dad if you are interested.
Stevie
Both are excellent cars mate, its just what the cars going to be used for I need to think about really. Of course want it sound inside and out, but if I can save money performance wise with a modified block to start out with that has a reasonably good background then I'll be swayed towards the silver classic. Im not making a move until the end of this week as per buying a car, so keep me updated on your position as far as buying the car. If we have the money at the same time, I'll of course take a step back.

Would be the white one for me too. sorry stevie I thought you were just going to keep a hold of yours.
Bodywise I would totally agree, immaculate looking car but the modifications and the quite highly regarded ownership of the silver classic tends to pull me. Now need to have a think!!
-
trying to bend it in situ may prove difficult as there may not be enough leverage.
i hope it works out for you Jimser
If an Agricultural workshop cant bend it, then he's no chance thats for sure!
-
stewart if i cant get anything sorted before saturday i might just take you up on that offer, thanks
Just give me a PM mate. Plenty of tools and equipment use there.
-
not silly at all colin, the piston i shortened was a spare which was the first attempt at solving the problem.
i was going to put in the original full length piston and then bend the fork so that i have full throw
on the piston again but the bend in the fork will relieve the pressure on the release bearing.
I have heating equipment at work. Workshop is the next farm up from AVA behind Glasgow airport. Can be organised for you to use it on a Saturday afternoon.
-
This might sound like a silly question so bear with me. You cut the slave piston to a shorter length so it's not as tight against the fork which sounds reasonable but this will not have altered the throw of the piston. If the fork isn't being pushed far enough as it now sounds how will bending the fork give you a longer throw? You'd be looking to alter the pivot point (impossible) or the point where the piston meets the fork would you not?
Will have a think to see if I can come up with anything quick and easy if I've got all of that right.
Surely fabrication would need to be the route, so that the pivot point could be adjusted.
-
took gearbox out today, changed release bearing.gearbox etc back in and decided to shorten the piston on
the slave cylinder to see if that would solve the problem.that certainly relieved the pressure on the fork
but now doesnt have enough throw to get the car into gear.only option left apart from taking clutch out again and buying a 6 speed specific clutch is to heat the fork and bend it?anyone know where i can get some mobile heating apparatus in the glasgow area?
thanks again to gary d and terzo neil for their help
if im taking the clutch out again i'll be taking the engine out rather than gearbox, the 6 speed is a nightmare
unless you have a ramp
Can the part be taken to a workshop for heating/bending or do you need it on site when the box comes out Jim

Will do m8 but tbh i cant see this guy getting back in touch, you no fancy a lovely newage at a good price?
Stevie
Classic for me mate. Just bought the girl a new Ibiza, have a van and an L200 as company cars, so just a toy for me.
I like the silver classic but the white classic looks ridiculiosuly virginal! What do you guys think? Pros and cons!?
-
Was waiting on someone getting back to me this week regarding mine's but he didn't get back in touch,Dave(DRB5)is away on holiday for 2 weeks.
Stevie
Ok mate, well if you could keep me updated.
-
Hey Fraser that's mine as soon as i shift mine's
Stevie

There is also a silver saloon stalking the M8 near city centre and M77 with no extra aerials. Plate unknown, just watch out for rear windows without stickers and regi plates with no franchise markings i.e Henry Bros.
