  1. Does anyone have a link to, or even know what groups each of the UK model Impreza Turbo's are. I'm looking at a UK WRX Wagon 2001 and someone told me they were in group 17. Ive now had a look at the car, and the dealer said its a 19D!?

If anyone can shed any light, I would be grateful.

  2. Depends on what you want and what car you have. If WRX then changing to an STi top mount would be suffice with larger injectors, Walbro fuel pump and remap then youll get good power. Could do all that without the turbo which would see good returns.

Have in your head how far you want to go. You dont want to end up having a lot of power, but you havent changed the brakes or gearbox to take the power. FMIC is only needed when you are really starting to hunt for a LOT of power, and you need the friction caused by the turbo spindle to be cooled dramatically.

  3. Is the MAF easy to test or get a new one then. Is the JDM MAF the same as UK.

Any ideas on cost for fix. Lets hope some garages are open tomorrow while im off.

Weird thing is the guy that I got it off said its been running like that for ages and he thinks it was fine. Maybe it just got much worse today as it was revving much higher last night without this issue.

Anyone in Glasgow fancy a quick swap to test?

Unsure of cost but I would say JDM MAF'S were different to UK MAF'S. Easy to swap over mate, its betweenn the air filter and the turbo.

  4. bugger, that means I will need to sit my test, my old paper licence used to have loads of categories on it but when I had to swap it for a photocard one after washing it a load of stuff dissapeared????

looks as if I am going to have to stop driving the tractor towing 3+ tonnes and I wont be able to tow my brothers RIB as it and the trailer comes in at 3.3 tonnes too.

I wonder if I could sit the test using the tractor as its far easier reversing with that than a car...lol

Graeme (looking for an instructor in the Paisley / Glasgow area too)

I used a lad from Barrhead for mine mate, was a while ago now but I'll see if I can dig out his number. Yes you can use a tractor if you have access to one, thats how I sat mine.

  5. As I said mate, due to the open cone drawing larger quantities of "cooler" air the MAF will sense this and stop the car from over-fueling itself. Try and get hold of a standard airbox or ask a friend with a scooby to try their MAF.

The open cone may have been added after the remap has taken place, and maybe now needs to have the parameters for the MAF sensor widened to stop it cutting out.

  6. Itd be worrying if you got the car for a steal. Best thing to do would be to get it to mapper to check the parameters, or even just a garage that are used to dealing with Import models. Last thing you want to be doing is running the car with the wrong MAP.

Just out of curiosity, does it have an open cone!? Could be the MAF.

  7. After reading either banzai or jap performance this month they talk about the new AEM intakes for the EVO and new hatch impreza.

The hatch impreza basicly has the same engine as the newage 2.5 cars?? if so the new AEM intake said they had a BHP improvement of something like 24BHP it might be even more i cant remember but it wasnt even a totaly enclosed filter like the new EVO one??

I would like to know wheather to go for a green panel filter or an induction kit. I like the idea of a panel as you have no heat soak issues but i love the fact that an induction kit gives you added turbo sound

    STOO

Think youve answered your own question mate. Bit of a trade-off really if not re-routing the open cone.

  8. Hi,

Been looking at buying another Impreza for a while but as I have a works van, I dont need a daily driver so Ive never got round to pushing myself to buy one.

Here's the catch. I dont want to buy Newage as I dont want to spend over 4ish grand due to the fact that I already pay for the Mrs's motor. A Uk Turbo would be perfect, as the car will be locked away in a compound and used as a weekend machine. I would be day insuring the car (group 17 is as high as they will go) as its obviously a toy. If its knocked from the compound, the insurance there covers it. Finance dictates I have to buy from a car dealer...

What do I buy as I also want decent amount of mileage as well...

  9. Stick to factory PSI for your tyres. Dont overfill, as the air will become dense as the heat builds up obviously.

Ask a mate to take his car as well, even if not used for track. Best place to store fuel cans etc, as you dont want to leave them laying around for obvious reasons, and you dont want to take them in the car for obvious reasons also.

Just like Paul said, enjoy it. Ive been a few times now, twice with the Impreza when I had it and all I did was focus on building on my ability. Bettering myself as I went round, and taking enough notice of others to avoid a crash but not enough notice to let them become a factor of the speed I am doing.

    ENJOY!

  10. Honda S2000 for me. Driven loads and they are endless fun and absolutely solid to drive. The boxster is a good car, but everyday service parts and labour are extremely expensive. Ive seen the service bill for a Cayman and it really aint pretty...

  11. A keen eye will refuse warranty. Ive been refused warranty due to modifications in the past, and have also refused warranty before to those with modifications. Just depends on luck really mate! With droplinks and whiteline etc you shouldnt have a problem, as they arent directly linked to the strut.

  12. I would tend to agree with all of the above, stick with a panel filter or if you do decide to buy an open cone the best option would be to modify the wheel arch skin and get the cone out in the arch, away from the heat of the engine bay.
