  1. Best Bits: Letting my bugeye grow out of it's cuddly skin and show some agression :D Learning how to tune the car myself to deliver more oomph both mechanically and electronically to my own personal specification. The McRae Gathering & Highland Fling Events :icon_salut:

Worst Bits: Hitting a deer... Car coming off a rolling road! :o

  2. Great photos guys! And once again Good job on the event as a whole. Well organised, safe and damn good fun! Can't wait till next year, where hopefully I'll have one less thing on my mind

Really sad to see cars dropping down during the event. We've had the odd knock, puncture/pot-hole incident in the past but AFICR no vehicle failures! Hopefully this was just a bad round of luck this year and wont appear in future events..

Shame to see some missing faces from the weekend, but also brilliant to see new ones, especially those coming from down south across the border! Really great to meet you guys and hopefully see you again at one of these events!! If I'm ever down that way I'll be sure to look out for meets going on and pop in past :icon_salut: Don's 340R looks soo sweeet in the flesh!!

Incase anyone was wondering the pace from view-point back to inverness maybe a little steadier than expected. ECU recorded a double missfire at one point and decided to cut boost :crying: But quick ECU reset at Inverness and all was well again :driving:

Gillian and I will be back next year again for sure! She absolutely loved her first big scooby event! :Scottish-flag:

Thanks to everyone who was involved! and for showing great support and commaradary for the Subaru brand! It's exactly what the SIDC is all about! :occasion14:

  3. Nice one Rich! good to see your still working on that one! It was a good'un even before your unfluence!

That Autosolo day mustav been a lotta fun! Like Davey, I'd heard about it.. Was thinking abotu heading across the for a looksee but didn't get the chance. Definitely keep us posted for future ones :icon_salut:

  4. Just under 2 weeks to go so thought I'd put up a post to see if anyone fancied a shot stop off in Elgin on the Way through to the fling on saturday morning?

Looking to depart Elgin no later than 8:30am!! (ideally 8am->8:15am). I know that may seem early, but gives plenty of time to get through to Inverness, via the shell garage at Raigmore and back down to Start point again with plenty of time to settle down before departure at 10am. If everyone on the list is there early we can head off early  If your names not down assume your not meeting in Elgin.

  5. Jeezo Al, a whole tenner, best scrap it then :smiley-taunt014:

I did come close to having to take it off the road last year.. :(

At this time of year those who get reminders through go to the post office or whatever to renew and suddenly realise the cost to renew is more than what it said on the letter through the post.

For the record.. I agree with the pay as you drive idea. DOn't want the government to create a new payg tax as we have that on fuel anyway.. Scrap the road tax add a couple pennies (or whatever) onto fuel and put that money back into the road network instead (Wasn't it blair/brown that took that money away for other uses?), that way those who drive heavy/gas guzzling cars or do high mileage pay more at the pump but the money goes back into maintaining the road network which they use! Makes sense to me.. Ok may harm very high milage company vehicles which need to use the roads day in day out.. but then just have system where a subsidy is given for company vehicles to claim back some of the cost, not necessarily all at the end fo the financial year..

P.s. Anyone seen the HUGE craters there are on the southbound A9 just north of perth recently!! :redcard:

  6. With my tax disc renewal in April I tend to keep an eyee out on the Budget just a few weeks before hand to see how much I will REALLY be paying at renewal.. This year I didn't spot any details of an increase int eh budget but it appears the tax bands have been tweaked. Paying 280 this year instead of the expected 270 Grrr!

Anyone know where or when these increases were announced?

  7. Great stuff Al :icon_salut: did you see what I meant about the sleeve into the car pole base? You able to sort something to keep it rigid? Thought about a couple of screws or something just to hold the sleeve in place permanently. :occasion14 : .

Yeah.. They hold in ok but still movement.. will either try rubber inner tube (ooh-err) or drill a hole and put a bolt in it.. one of the links on the gazebo lost a nut.. have replaced but will hopefull get roudn to checking over it all and maybe greasing the odd part to keep it sweet.

looking good Al - i know its sacriledge but think I actually prefer your bug to your brothers RB..... :o

LOL! I'll be sure to tell him... I do like the RB320 look.. But that Bug is a really nice example in terms of styling mods. Not overdone. Paint needs sorted in places though and it's not a polishing fix :(

... now... can I borrow it all for a bbq when the sun finally arrives :icon_flower:

    If it's a SIDC BBQ yeah! :P

  8. Big thanks to Gus (Gus the bus) and Glyn (BalliStic) for helping arrange collection of a club stand for the North of scotland last week.

Just got a chance to set it up today! Much neater package than what we had before!

new flag poles/flags, same gazebo for now (requires a replacement bolt but easy fixed) and a new banner! Flag poles split into 3 sections which makes them MUCH easier to transport than previous pack! WoohoO!

Couldn't resists setting up a demo stand since I have a a couple scoobs here at the mo :P

^^ Note: the Blue SWRT flag, cuddly scooby, red WRX and RB320 are not included in the pack :D

  9. Been hearing reports of attempted carjackings the last week in aberdeenshire.. Mostly around peterhead area. Car in questions seems to be Black Ford Focus with Blue flashing lights behind the grill. Tactic seems to be pull over a car. Occupants dressed in police uniforms then attempt to carjack the vehicle they just pulled over!

Recommended course of action is to drive to nearest police station with the numberplate of the focus so that it can be identified!

Given these recent reports.. Id say your safe enough NOT to stop in the area if you are being pulled by an unmarked black focus!! And then report the incident to local police as soon as possible!

    Report of most recent incident:

    http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/3177509

A HUNT was under way today for a bogus policeman who tried to force a young mum from her car in a layby.

The imposter used flashing blue lights to pull her over – then ordered her to get out while her baby was left in the back.

The incident happened on the A90 Aberdeen-Peterhead road near Boddam.

  10. Not a huge amount really. Both do the same thing and allow the same mapping abilities on the ECU. ECUTek is a licenced piece of software whereas opensource isn't licensed, it's built by enthusiasts. The opensource project has been on the go for many years now and has a fair following!

Hopefully a ECUTEk mapper will be along soon to clarify any functionality differences there may be, but from what I've seen its very difficult to justify ecutek over opensource. Especially where the open source projects are today!

From the mappers point of view the licenced product has some comeback if the software itself fails and bricks an ECU. But this is highly unlikely to happen. In the years I've followed the open source mapping I've never heard of that being an issue. ECU's have bene bricked but that's because the operators of the software mad mistkes, the software was not at fault.

  11. Cool! A lot of work going into this by the looks of things! and it's looking sharp! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Looks like this will tidy up a few design 'features' of the current site which people have commented on in the past

Just don't make the mistake of launching it before it's ready! ;) Get every part of the site looking the same first if you can.. Seen that happen too many times with other sites where thei've launched a new design through excitement rather than having a finished product and it's not a good look. For the proper overhaul it should be all or nothing! Teaser definitely looking good though B)
