  1. I assumed police had that info the for the past few years since all the systems were getting tied together. That was certainly the plan anyway..

Shame you've had to discover this the hard way :(

Bottom line, make sure ALL mods/extras are declared! Which should have been happening anyway  But your absolutely right, you can buy a car and it be feckled with underneith and an owner may be oblivious to it.. in which case you can get away with 'to the best of your knowledge' there are no mods.. But, in the likes of an impreza chances are you will be quizzed more than say a 1l micra.. ;)

Not just the police but if your involved in an accident the insurance company can void your insurance if they discover parts on your car which were not declared. They can claim that it is not he same car which is on the policy.. In many cases you end up havign to pay added excess in the event of a claim, in other cases, your basically un-insured!! :o

Oh and in the past this has even mean declarign things like different tyre model/manufacturer from the manufactuer spec! although thnkfulyl common sense came into play and this is less of an issue.. But I still inform the insruance so they know I fit winter tyres and swap out fogs for driving lights over the winter

  2. The Spec D is absolutely worth modifying....the Stereo is crap, the suspension is crap (standard) the Sat Nav is crap and the low rear spoiler is crap. Plus their worth less than standard STi's despite having leather trim and a nicer cabin. Plus like any other 2.5, if you don't forge it,. forget it! Mine's been attended to on all counts. Does an Engine Tuner rebuild, high (genuine) spoiler, ER series coil overs, whiteline bits and a nice touchscreen double DIN stereo make it worth less?

Not bothered as I ain't ever selling mine....

Erm.. could be wrong but wasn't that the point of the spec D? to be subtle? particularly compared to a standard STi and especially the Spec C Again why bother with buyign a spec D if all you want to do is change it, why not just go for a standard STi and take it from there? Also IMHO spec D isn't really a special edition in my eyes, but rather a trim level.. RB320/GB270's woudl be the special edition hawkeyes in my eyes..

  3. Balanced opinion.

Yes left unmodified.. why? Because most modifications are to make a car unique, one off. I'm all for mods, but why take some exclusivity away from what is already a special edition.

If your planning on modding why not just take a standard Wrx/STi and use that as the base.. its the same bits and by modifying it you are taking away the special editions identity. IMHO when modding a special edition, it's no longer a special edition.. :hitler:

  4. yeah will try get out to some things just dunno what... No promotion for me i'm afraid but house, wedding, trying to keep scoob on in good working order since it spends most of its time tucked away in the back of the garage :crying:

Once everything is out of the way and settled hoping to bounce back with avengence..:D After the fling this year, the other half keeps insisting on learning to drive so she can have a scoob of her own!

  5. Mine get's foamed first with Meguiars Hyper-Wash before using Meguiars Shampoo Plus with lambswool mit & two bucket method :carwash:

Buy both as 3.78l bottles so lasts for yonks!

Meguiars stuff makes the car snell nice too!

My regular car was wash also involves detailing brush with Muc Off wheel cleaner! << Cheap but good stuff if used regularly with normal car wash routine!

^^^ Just finished washing the focus today with all that

  6. Hi Stu :hello:

Welcome along to the club! Liking the dark looking blob youve got! That spec is considered one of the best models! Good to hear about your connection with teh mr2oc! Always have a soft spot for Mr2's So much I even suggested a joint run with the club at one point after meeting a pile of them in convoy on the road :D

Somethign special about seeing a car club out on a run on a summers day! :driving:

  7. Used to always run the scoob on Vpower.. Then Credit crunch, so was filling up with T99. Started seeing the odd missfire. Moved back to Vpower recently just to see and no more missfire. Also car feels more 'pokey' on Vpower with more consistent power delivery on throttle. So back to Vpower again. Not sure aboout MPG at the moment as scoob doesnt' get consistent runs from tank to tank these days..

...However! Depends one the filling station! The petrol in Tesco in Elgin and gash! Even their regular is bad! I've heard LOTS of report locally of people getting stutters flat spots on their cars.. COmmon denominator seems to be the Tesco fuel from that particular station. Next nearest tesco in Keith doesn't seem to have same problems. Guessing their tanks need flushed out properly or something but been the same for 2-3 years now there. Definately one to avoid!!

Just to add.. Noticed similar results with shell Diesel on the Focus. Car ran fine on tesco/asda stuff but, started using vpower and it's lost it flat spot that it had and certainly feels liek more get-up and go higher up the revs!

Does cost a little more but it's primarily Shell for me on both cars. And on the diesel definately seeing more MPG with shell!

  8. ScoUK... I like to think I'm very supportive of the club, but sometimes I'm up against a quote that I just can't get close to. I don't think any insurer will guarantee to be the cheapest on every quote they do.

Didn't mean my comment to sound like a direct comment on yourself.. Just generally, as you say Keith Michaels can't beat every quote. Just to confirm, you've been repeatedly best for me in recent years with the Impreza. A specialist subaru insurer who could guarantee to beat any quote would be a winner for the club.. KM sadly can't always do that for everyone

As a general comment on car insurance, it would be interesting to discover why some quotes are so different between specialist companies. Is it purely postcode, age, length of time the car has been owned for etc. Insurance quotes seem to be all over hte place these days.. Mostly to give people an idea as to what coudl help get their insurance premiums down. I.e. move house, change modifications, do extra driver training etc. Actually with the news this year of subaru drivers being the least likely to claim on insurance has this has any affect on insurance premiums this year? Woudl be good if it has.. Still looking to try get the impreza to sub £500 :D

  9. I think there's lots of thigns come into accoutn between different companies.. SO far Keith michaels have been cheapest for me in recent years.. I shop around each time although not heard of paceward before..

For comparison I had completely opposite results.. e.g. Keith Muchaels got me close to £500 whereas A Plan and Adrian flux wanted over 1,000 for me! Sky came closest at £700 odd

It's clearly difficult to reccomend one company over another, dunno if it's postcode, age, licence, or what it is.. But I get lots of 'interestung' quotes each year..

It is a shame though that Keith Michaels is supposed to be supportive of the club yet can come close to some other quotes.. :brickwall:

  10. heh maybe :)

Back in the day SIDC did manage to pull most of the SCottish base from SCoobyNet onto SIDC :D

Having not been involved with .net or been to any meets I can't say what they do so well or any differently to SIDC. But Baz was possibly onto somethign about the 'age' thing. If the .net group is made up of 'younger' owners it will naturally attract attract the same group of people.

To kinda justify this approach, recent reports have come out about how Subaru drivers are the safest drivers on teh road, it's a fact today that subaru drivers make the least insurance claims! and drivers who have grown up with subaru's are now in their 30's and 40's.. And have other responsibilities in life other than hooning about in a scooby! But we still love to drive them like anyone else.. That's maybe part of what we have here.. Dare I say it, maybe SIDC is a bit 'Old skool' these days. who knows..

I wouldn't necessarily say so myself. The Impreza has grown up a little (although not if youve seen the 2014 WRX ) But maybe the next generation and finding the 'younger' base on .net more appealing somehow?
