  2. Just a wee post to thank Grant and the lads at AWD Motorsport, Perth, for the work done on my brakes and fitting me into their busy schedule with very little notice. Being a first time customer I was going on feedback from others but the 300+ mile round trip was worth it, for the work and the info gleaned while waiting around. Happy to return and recommend to others.

The SIDC discounted rates were also very much appreciated.

    Cheers again guys

  4. I got the decals on eBay from the seller (eBay Shop - ESP-CUSTOM-GRAFIXS) who makes signs.  Along with similar ones for Evo's these were the only car related ones at the time.  The ones I bought initially were a lot smaller but he made them larger on request an email to them may get ya sorted if anyone’s interested.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

In light of my 'oriental' interests I am certain the characters are Japanese Kanji (as opposed to Katakana) and not Chinese.

  9. mmmmm there's a thought...Maybe not.

Tis good that there are a few of us from various forces that can assist with any advice...[;)]

Just have to be careful what ya post as it's not always easy to convince the motoring community that you're entirely onside - there will always be the sceptic believing anything you post is a conspiracy [:#].  That said I leave most 'advice' for those who ask or obviously need it but haven't asked and mainly via PM now to avoid the Devil's Advocates.

  10. result in a loss of job description and a downgrade.

How's Mrs ScoobyDoom now efter her fall oot the loft ?

Sorry but sore point there, many of us will be quick to state Traffic is not an upgraded job - it's nothing more than a sideways step and career choice.  This is also true of CID.  These departments serve individual functions that officers dealing with the everyday stuff do not have the time to devote themselves to fully.  Promotion to a higher rank is the only upgrade of your job and status.  Several years ago the Chief here decided to get rid of the white hats as it was helping those in the dept to view themselves as elitist. An unfortunate death of an on duty officer caused their reinstatement.  That said I drive a marked car on the same roads, where the yellow jacket but do not have the luxury of a white hat to protect me - double standards?   There is a certain mind set for those who wish to spend their entire shift clocking speeders, chasing cars with broken tail lights.  the perceived "I'd book me granny if I had to" attitude isn't too far off the mark with some.  Basically, it takes more than an interest in cars and ain't my choice.  Traffic could be viewed by some as a.... no not going there.

As for Mrs SD she's now had two ops and is recovering nicely, thanks for asking mate.

  11. I would have to echo 'most' of above.  While we do not (and should not) have any special dispensation for our actions off duty, on duty is definitely a different matter.  I can think of many occasions where I have literally raced to the scene of an incident but have subsequently been stood down prior to reaching the scene in question.  Examples of why I would drive quickly would include, a colleague on the wrong end of a violent incident, a serious or fatal accident having just been reported, any ongoing crime such as an assault, break-in, someone stealing your Scoob or even someone about to thrown themselves on the railway track or into the sea.  These are some but by no means a definitive list of calls that I would speed to with out hesitation but still have the wit to adhere to basic safety protocols, i.e. I would exceed the limit but not overtake on a blind bend (like those we often pursue), I would go through a red light but slow or even stop first to ensure it was clear.  Bottom line is when the proverbial hits the fan everyone, yes including you, expects a prompt response.  If I hesitated on occasions the difference could be literally life or death.  So, I certainly will not refrain from driving in a manner which gets me to the scene safely but in the least possible time.

So, this poor chap has indeed been scape goated, when would any traffic or other officer even give a look to a car 8mph over the limit?  Also to further qualify my points above, even in the last few weeks I have been asked to attend calls to RTC's where people were thought to have been seriously injured. However, other units arrived before me and advised all was ok, thereby the need for speed was no longer justified so I slowed down.  Had I not been required to assist and if it were that time I too could have gone to collect my piece from a Chinese takeaway.  Similarly, I was called to a house where a person was assaulting their spouse. There being an obvious risk of serious injury and possible endangerment to life, I didn't hold back.  However, nor did my colleagues and another car got their first and with the incident in hand I was no longer required.  I basically, did a u-turn and headed back the way I came.  I'm sure there were some puzzled drivers that wondered what was going on, seeing me going back having just passed them with all the lights, bells and whistles on.  Bottom line again - know your facts before shouting ya mouth off.  It's easy to approach a supervisor to check on someones actions and if no reasonable explanation can be found then you have a problem.  Oh, and before we have the 'not the Police investigating the Police' brigade on, I can assure you that this is no longer the era of 'Life on Mars' and with everyone living in a culture of accountability there's no question of the Senior Officers in those rolls taking any chances.  I'd rather be on the end of a criminal case with a solicitor and a punter to contend with then the 'rubber heelers' on my trail.

Bit of rant I know but there ya go - Scape Goat - know all ya facts first - I won't stop doing it.  Personally, I find the people who shout and critisise do tend to be the first on the phone demanding their call take precedence when they're on the receiving end.

The day something happens to you, your nearest and dearest or ya Scoob and I trundle up, amble oot the motor with me cap on at a jaunty angle and ask "fits a the fuss aboot" we'll see who's happy cos I'm even 1 minute late.

  12. Cool dude, I'd go along with Craigy as different ain't always bad.  My missus keeps telling me she'd prefer our Scoob painted some retro 1970's purple.  I think she's on about a colour similar to the old Capri's but until I see it and it's pointed out I don't really know.

  13. Same here.  I ordered 17" Inovit CTS gunmetal with Toyo boots a few weeks ago from Revolution and was told it would be a 4-6 week wait.  I went for them as I was told if I held off I couldn't be sure I'd get any when they came back in stock anyway if there were preorders and the like.  So, hopefully by mid May I should have them.

  14. Its a silly game and could end up in more hot water than just the law if it all goes wrong.

Absolutely, take it from me when you've been at the scene, pulled the 'bits'  [+o(] out of the wrecks and then had to go to their nearest and dearest to tell them what's happened, as I have [;)][:'(], you do tend to adopt a slightly biased opinion.

  15. Andy is absolutely right, if they were at it
then there's no excuse, even if they felt they were on a quiet piece of road
with no 3rd parties about.  That said I would never condone dishonesty
amongst colleagues and would be the first to advise anyone to complain if they
felt that was how they were treated.  I regularly get a bit p*$$*d off
having to try to explain or otherwise justify why a colleague did or said
something just because the recipient doesn't understand or agree with it.
Basically, 'you pays ya money ya takes ya chance' applies.  Engaging in
'spirited' driving then complaining when caught smacks of hypocrisy.  On
the other hand if a genuine misinterpretation (or otherwise) takes place then
you have the right to argue your point and have the case proven against you.
What I've an issue with is the attitude of say a driver who knows the speed
limit, chooses to deliberately speed, gets caught fair and square and then has
the audacity to make pitiful pleas of, 'what slight of hand can I pull to get
off with this.'  The same principle applies to people who know they aren't
allowed to vandalise your Scoob, it doesn't mean they're right key along the
side of it just cos they've had a beer and don't agree with it.

Of course in addition to the endless debate
of good cop, bad cop, there is the good Scoob driver, bad Scoob driver.
Picture the scene....  Very recently  I was working one evening when
I have a report of a car traveling at speed through a town centre area.  The
report continues that the offending car has now left the road and smashed into
'street furniture' demolishing same.  The culprit has then taken off at
speed and further reports come in of the car making dangerous overtakes as he
tries to flea the area.  You can imagine my thoughts when the next message
I get is to look out for the offending car - a Subaru Impreza with large boot
spoiler.  Talk about letting the side down, just the kind of thing to keep
pushing our Ins premiums up and giving the community a bad rep.  However, this is one case where I'm pleased
to say that the driver was caught in his damaged Scoob a short time later and
    will face the Sheriff soon.

  16. Nice one [Y][:(]

Got this grill and badge off fleabay and have been thinking about doing beneath the number plate too.  Gonna get the black edges painted silver soon with the new spoiler and scoop to keep it all the same.

  17. (2) A notice shall be deemed for the purposes of

subsection (1)© above to have been served on a person if it was sent by

registered post or recorded delivery service addressed to him at his last known

address, notwithstanding that the notice was returned as undelivered or was for

any other reason not received by him.

The only force in the UK known to use registered post or recorded delivery for speeding NIPs are Dumfries & Galloway. A little venture onto Pepipoo will show many cases where credible witnesses have proved non-service within the 14-day limit.

In laymans terms "served" = delivered or received. It does not mean posted.

Ah, it starts, been waiting for it, the let's just tell the Police how their job works post.

I now feel I need to qualify my answer in order to show that the past 18 years could not have been replaced by a casual glance at a legal website.  From what I've seen Pepipoo and similar sites have been created and centre around drivers trying to get off with offences via technicalities and loop-holes.  They're full of 'this bloke said if ya say this ya should/might get off' and 'that cop should have done/said, etc..so you might get off.'  They seem to neglect the fact that anyone may have actually committed an offence.  While I see dozens of offences every day I may only speak to a small percentage of the drivers and most of them will receive verbal warnings.  I tend to look at whether the driver appeciates whether they have actually done something the ought not have and whether I believe they will accept a warning for what it is and not drive off thinking I got away with that, I showed him. Working in a rural community you tend to see the same people/cars day after day and warnings go a along way towards good Public Relations.  There are of course the minority who believe they have thr right to behave/drive as they like and then when caught it appears go running to Pepipoo for advice of how to get away with it.

But before we start getting too out of sorts I have already stated I am an Impreza owner/driver, I've been bolting bits onto my various cars since I was 17 and am happy to post on the site.  I am even willing to answer questions which non legally trained or minded people may have.  However, I am not prepared to enter into futile debates or worse arguments over differences of opinion based on third party knowledge.  Regardless of what any site says Section 1(2) of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 states as I have posted above and that is the law, regardless of how others interprit it or what some forces chose do locally.  To therefore rely on what someone believes to be the case instead is taking a chance.  You will of course note that I have in no way embelsihed the facts or posted anything that would mislead anyone - it says what it says and that's all I will reproduce.  Another point is, it is not the Police who submit, issue, post or otherwise serve Notices of Intended Prosecution it is the PF or other prosecuting agent and quite frankly I have no idea about how they come to their decisions most of the time as they don't always reflect positivley on us.

So to be exact served does actually mean posted but as you have highlighted in some areas prosecuting agencies may for whatever reasons best known to themselves overlook what the statute actually requires of them and yes in such cases a lucky offender may get off via another Pepipooesque loop-hole.
