  1. Wee update on jobs Ive done earlier this year.

All arches were mingin so cleaned them all up, degreased them and then painted them

With that done I had a few jobs to do at front end so removed the front bumper. I knew the bumper bar was going to be rusty so I had planned to replace it if it was so got one off ebay, blasted, painted then fitted it. Other jobs was to modify the bumper to gain better air flow to the oil cooler and also fit a tow strap:

The replacement bumper bar was a different design but it fitted and it was lighter so thats an added bonus.

I also removed the airbag sensors and brackets which are tucked in each side of front bumper

I had a few whiteline bits added so car has now had geometry set up ready for track, still got to play with the roll bar settings and damper settings but all in good time. Front ARB, Rear ARB and roll centre adjust kit fitted but I dont have much pics of that, heres old vs new rear ARB with whiteline brackets:

And how the car looks back together:

  2. Ok, so I didnt have the scoob out of the garage today for new pics because I didnt have time.

I've just got myself an E70 X5 3.0D so I decided to put my efforts into cleaning that inside and out since Arnold Clark find it acceptable for their cars to go out to customers without a valet!

I have some pics from last month so i'll get them up tomorrow when I'm back on my own laptop.

Oh aye and I'm doing tough mudder later in the year so best get myself fighting fit for that too, think I need to put on weight and muscle for that though :smiley-taunt014:

  3. First post in my thread in 2 years, WOW.

Hi folks, well I did say this project might take a while lol, these things are never finished.

Well the car has been off the road for 2 years since I moved back home and bought a house and they aint cheap so scooby funds were non existent. Anyway, car is back on the road and Ive done a few changes since so its all ready for track to give it a good test run.

I had planned to attend the Trackscotland trackday on the 9th of last month, the car was ready 2 days beforehand but it was untested with the new suspension bits and geometry setup etc. Plus I had planned to do my trailer test because I plan to tow the car to knockhill and since I passed my test after 1997, it is illegal for me to tow anything over 750kgs. I passed that test last week so I'm now legal to tow the scooby on the trailer.

What my next plans for the scooby is weight reduction so I'm lookin for any ideas or suggestions to reduce weight?

A lot has already been stripped from the car so it might already be done but fire away anyway ;)

    Cheers

  4. Who have you gone with for the best quote Euan?

Some companies just dont like imports or mods so they quote high, ones ive used in the past have been A plan and Keith Michaels (Gary Moulson).

  5. It will never be finished but plan is safe 400bhp for next year till the new engine is ready for 2014 ;)

You going to be doin knockhill next year at 400 then? I'm hoping to get a few trackdays in so maybe see you there. I know what you mean, these things are never finished

  6. Hi everyone,

its been a long time since i've been on here, hope everyone is keeping fine and scoobs are lookin after you all.

Ive recently bought sczscoob's wagon and I cant get it through its MOT coz the cat is knackered.

Has anyone got a standard catalyst downpipe exhaust that I can borrow for a few days?

    Thanks

  7. Hey folks,

Got a problem with my boost, seems | have far too much of it.

Upon accelerating I'm sure I got fuel cut and seen the boost had spiked up to 1.8 bar and 90% on the solenoid (AVCR boost Controller).

Tried again, but a bit gentler on accelerating and boost was going well above the 1.5 bar that it is set at.

So put the AVCR setting to OFF so that I would be on wastegate pressure but i was still boosting far too high.

My question is, I suspect the actuator is seized or jammed hence giving me lots of boost, so with the engine off i tried to move it by hand. Should I be able to move the actuator on the turbo with my hand or is it jammed as suspected?

Thanks for any info/advice on this

  8. good result with the remap and top marks to steve for sorting the heatshield on the spot - did you ditch your undies when you stopped for the chainsmoke too? :)

lucky escape, never heard of this before either - off to check mine now....

I've read a post about this happening before, was a while ago, cant remember which year/model it happened to.

Great figures and a lucky escape with the steering locking up
