james666 Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 can we get something done about the pms as you need to check inbox to see if you have any, can you not make the inbox thingy flash??????
RA Dunk Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 nope afraid it cant be done, ive brought this up before too [] you just need to check them and look [:S]
corsa Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Just check your inbox prior to clicking on all the threads easy peasy.
scouk Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Ahhhhh! Just had a possible fix for the moment.. But havent tested yet. I've noticed previously that I do (and I assume everyone does) get an email when you initially receive a new PM from someone. That's a new PM not a reply to one that already exists. So there is some notification. Now, the PM system on this forum works the same way as the posts on the main forum.. Often the PM system is a seperate thing altogether (from a behind the scnenes techy kinda way). Anyway, I'll get to the point.. When you first view a new PM and you want to be notified on any replies to it, open the PM and select the button "Enable Email Subscription" near the top of the page just above the initial PM message (if you know what I mean) This "should" then notify you via email of any new replies to that PM. Alternatively try going onto your profile (Click your username at the top right hand side of the page)Select the email tab then say "Yes" to the question: Enable Email Notifications of forum/thread subscriptions and replies to my posts. ^^^^ Note: I wouldn't reccomend using this option as it means you will be bombarded with emails abotu every topic/pm you've ever posted in. IT can get annoying and it puts a little extra load on our poor SIDC forum. I would test this myself but I'm in desperate need of sleep so ifanyone else want's to try and and give some feedback, maybe we can getthis sorted. In theory it should work.. []
steven_williams Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Surely if Scoobynet can have a indicator of how many PM's you have an how many unread ones it cannot be that hard. Is it worth one of the moderators contacting one of their moderators to see if they will share the way of doing it.
RA Dunk Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 its not as simple as that really, the function that tells you if I touch goats or not isnt compatable with this type of website, "i think" [:S]

Scoobynet and the SIDC run on different pieces of forum software, it's not a case of us not knowing how to do it here and them knowning how to do it. It's simply a matter of the software they use having the feature and ours not. Believe me if we could hack community server to have a better PM system then we would have done so a long time ago, but we can't...........
G.T. Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 no point in having an indicator to flash up that you have got a pm most of them dont get delivered []
scouk Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Quote Believe me if we could hack community server to have a better PM system then we would have done so a long time ago, but we can't........... Simply because I'm too lazy can you tell me, is the community server package /database sit stand alone on the SIDC webspace or does it make call backs to the community server site/server to create the forums? I guess it makes callbacks if you can't edit it [:'(]
st3ph3n Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 It's hosted entirely on our server. But it's a closed system (within reason).
scouk Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Is it closed as in they have restructed some of the source code somehow? Or closed in that if they catch you tampering they will cancel the licence?
scouk Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Just to confirm, that "Email subscriptioN" thing fix for hte PM's doesn't work for replies [:'(]
4Hero Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 how hard is it to click "Inbox"? I'm glad you have nothing else to worry about.
euan_r Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 the updates to already existing pms seems to work now. i changed some filter thingy a while back
colzo Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I get an email so always know if I get PMs, easy enough to click the inbox as well.
