Just home and what a great day. Left at half 7 to get to shotts on time only to find the first part of the run was straight back home [:|] great choice of roads though and some of the ones this afternoon i never knew existed.

Big thanks to squirrel and imy for putting in the time to organise it and great to meet all of you.

Popped into peebles on the way home and the guys were waiting on a tow truck in the pi**ing rain [:D] hope its nothing too bad.

Didn't take my camera but can't wait for the pics and inevitable squirrel vision vid [:P]

Bring on the next one.

excellent day [:P]

18 cars turned up and the roads stayed dry and fairly quiet for us.

thanks to Grant for co-organising and spending most of the day on a hill waiting for us to film on camcorder - you should have set the tent up LoL
Thanks to both the official and impromptu group leaders today, it is greatly appreciated.
Also thanks to STi Pretender for scouting ahead, your texts were timely and used to our advantage [:D]

well.. my car can certainly brake LoL

  1. when an errant lamb suddenly decided to gallop across the road.  Managed to screech to a halt whilst producing a big cloud of smoke with a whole convoy behind me (no damage to the car or the lamb); and
  2. when we regrouped after the Elvanfoot section and I came round a left hander in a tunnel of trees to see brake lights, cars and people [:P]

Nice to see both Corsa and Spooks in their new cars at the start of the day.  Thanks for coming along.

Jac - hope you get your car fixed and BTW.. ur a numpty re car keys

The RA did well through the twisties.  I've got the lines now... just need to work on the speed LoL

Was strange driving home to Glasgow into heavy rain after driving on dry roads all day... at least it washed the bugs off my windscreen [li]

Finished the day off at Peters for some grub and story telling.

I'm tired and even the RA is needing a rest - hurled around Knockhill last week and hurled around the twisties today!

Great day out. Thanks to all the group leaders, Imy and Squirrel for organising a good run. Weather was a bonus staying dry all day.

Where to begin with this eh?....

Well the Saturday run round Resistance Fall of Man on the PS3 and driving 5 tonne trucks round Knockhill were definate up sides to the afternoon. Other than that well....

The evenings camping was a great laugh and it was nice to spend some time with other subaru owners and know that we didn't just have a 30 / 60 minute break to chat. Instead a random BBQ (well random if you were me and squirrel as we were thinking Burger King) happened and some good grub was had by all. Then off to a slightly warmer climate... The Pub. Drink was had, stories were told and the locals provided some entertainment (how do you mute an accordion and a fiddle btw? Answers on a postcard to Abington Hotel.) Later on it was back to the tents suitably knackered for some sleep before the big day ahead. Or I did anyway. Apparently my snoring kept the camp-site awake all night. Sorry about that everyone!!

Sunday morning for us started with the packing up of the tents which I thought we all did rather well at for 7:30am and then on our way to the run.

Stage 1 - The run its-self was great. I started in the Spirited group and after making my front pads smoke more than the previous nights BBQ I pulled in and waited for a bit for the medium group to go past and went with them. Still I would have preferred my pads more of a medium / well done rather than the charred smoking remains they are now.

The weather did hold out pretty well however due to some technical difficulties half way through stage one leaving us the one group leader Imy lead the way for us all and did very well.

Stage 2  - This went a bit more to plan with there being 2 groups and some good fun was had here. Must be nice to be a passenger for this stretch as the scenery is something else around there. A few sheep were scared although most just didn't care we were there.

Stage 3 - This was my Favourite. Not long after passing the squirrel vision post I got separated from the guys in front of me. This resulted in some
cars behind me thinking I knew where I was going and I didn't have a
clue. To that end we almost all went the wrong way until I saw the
markers and put the breaks on (cue the second cooking of the day for
them) A quick U-turn later and all was good. Unfortunately due to phone calls completely beyond one man's control (they called Imy instead as he wouldn't pick up) Sc00bar00 had to detour back to Cyp-Rocks car which left us with no leader who knew the way for the faster of the two groups left. Somehow I got roped into leading and that's an experience. When you don't know the roads and your in a convoy, you can at least use the car in front to help judge what's happening by how its moving and the brake lights etc... When you out front its a whole other ball game Trying to read some of those breaking points yourself especially on blind summits when the last time you drove the road was September 2006 was quite twitchy at times.. and the weather just held out for us

It is almost like a tradition now that when I go on an organised day something has to go wrong on my car. Only 5 weeks after getting my front windscreen replaced on the car after a stone chip on the way to Crail I've got another nice chip in it today. Hoping this one can just get a resin repair done as it isn't to big. Even though his is the 5th time since I started driving 4 years ago that I've had a stone hit the windscreen I still sh!t myself every time.

Over all it was a fantastic weekend (the final fest at Peters was just the kind of finish it needed) and a big thanks to Imy and Grant for the hard work. Its well appreciated.[;)

Roll on the next event!!! WOOO!!!

A few more pics from the days rather unplanned events, which actually made it, the great day it was [;)].

I`m sure everyone went on their merry ways home with a tale or two to tell, i for one wont forget it in a hurry [Y]

To think that Imy left last from Base camp, only to beat all the so called Spirited and medium paced cars to Moffat [:-*]

Quality with a capital Q.

I`m sure the Squirrellvision production from this latest escapade will be a Blockbuster.

Very true.  Thanks Ian for offering to lead that stretch of the run. You did well [Y]

For the past couple of runs we have got the group leaders to come out and do the recce with us. It helps them familiarise themselves with the route, what the roads are like and what landmarks to use as hints for the next junction.

A bonus for being the first car is that you dont get sprayed with stone chips from the car in front [;)

Morris Marinas,i had 4 of them all 1800's Good in a straight line but torsion bar front suspension without an arb meant any corners were a no no.

Showing your age there Billy!

Looks like I missed a great day on some of my favourite roads, but I was needing to save my pennies for crappy things like car insurance. Well done to the ever resourceful organisers.
