colzo Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Not a great photographer by any means but thought I would share them anyway.
gus the bus Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Nice one Colzo, Failed to make it to this event this year as my old man is in the middle of moving house[] makes me see what I've missed[:'(]
jamesm Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Think that was the Evo at Swinton Crossroads? That was a serious impact and they were very lucky. Must have been following you about, as I was also at the same corner in Edrom. What do you drive? Got a few pics myself so must get them downloaded to see what they are like. Will post if any good.
colzo Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 EVO crash was a bad one, thought it was coming for us! James - EVO was at Swinton mate. I drive a 55 plate Crystal Grey STI with PFF7s and Prodrive flaps and was always parked next to my mates works van. Great cars and great weekend! []
dougster Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 How did you get down as far as that at Swinton? I was at the junction and was made aware that no speccys were allowed any further down. He was very lucky but boy did he hit that fast and sideways!! I was in the black Ford Ranger having a cup of tea near a few scoobs before the stage started.
Neofox Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Hey, well i enjoyed heading back down to my hometown to stay with the old folks and venture out for the rallying.Excellent weekend as per usual not bad £5 for a programme and with some creative thoughts thats as much as you need to spend, great value for money! I took a few pics, the best of which i've put up on my site http://www.stillspeed.com Hope you like. Ian
dougster Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 http://bbs.scoobynet.com/motor-sport-gener...ark-2007-a.html Some great shots on this thread!!!
corsa Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I thought you weren't gonna make it Davie. Neither did i !! flew back Friday night from Portsmouth, unpacked bags on Saturday, repacked bags Sat night, drove early down to Duns, left at 4pm only took in the service area and the end of Swinton where it comes in through the top of Charterhall and then left for my 6pm flight to London.!!!
colzo Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 How did you get down as far as that at Swinton? I was at the junction and was made aware that no speccys were allowed any further down. Parked the car at the farm a bit away from the crossing then went through the gate into the field behind the house that was for sale, there was about a dozen of us and the marshalls knew we were there so no probs. I`ve been to Wales Rally GB twice and honestly think the Jim Clark is better!
dougster Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Sometimes it's not the marshals knowing you are there and probably in a safe spot but HOW you got there. We had a lot of issues at jctn 5 Langton on Friday night with specs wandering about farmland and setting up a grandstand in a yard using brand new aluminum feeding troughs!!! Even at Leithholm side of Swinton on Sunday the field above the main entry to the crossroads was marked out as a prohibited area but there must have been about 50 people up there. People don't realise they are only putting the event in jeapordy. The Spec control car must have been round Langton about 5 times on Friday night holding the proceeding's up for everyone. I'm sure you took a sensible route to a sensible position but you did say you thought the EVO was 'coming for us' [][][]
colzo Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Sometimes it's not the marshals knowing you are there and probably in a safe spot but HOW you got there.. I'm sure you took a sensible route to a sensible position but you did say you thought the EVO was 'coming for us' [][][] When getting to that particular spot we used a gate to access the field, walked at the edge of the field so not to damage any crops etc got to the point where we stood which was in full view of the marshalls, in-fact a 'senior official' moved people who were in the garden of the house next to the junction down to us. Now how is it that if you wear a green bib with 'media' on it you can stand in the most unsensible of places? I would follow any marshalls instructions as they are there to do a job which is to keep the rally safe, but I was amazed when the EVO crashed that there was a young boy, who couldn`t have been more than 12, run out to help with an orange safety bib on. I have total respect for other peoples property and I am sensible enough to know how close to get to the action and would never jeopardise the rally in any way.
dougster Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Did you not realise the green bibs have special powers!! HA tell that to one of them who is nursing some bust ribs after catching a flying fence with his 'superbib' Yes the media guys also caused a lot of headaches standing in extremely dangerous positions. I seen one gut with a media bib on an a tiny 4mp camera ffs!! I also spotted some kids with bibs. I will raise the issue with the senior marshal. Unfortunately everyone doesn't follow your thinking. Some think they are experts, some are 'team' members who think they own the road cause 'their' car is ON it, some are local land owners who give major PR problems and some are just full o the swally!!! (I saved that 'till Kelso!!) Feel free to sign up for marshaling and there are still more events to come this year.
DR Motosport Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I gave up marshaling about 12 years ago, had done it for about 5 years and didn't have the time anymore. But I'd like to think that after 20 years of rallying, I know what's right and what's wrong. And some of what I saw at Kelso was terrible. Various kids with bibs on, probably saw 3 or 4 over the weekend. Marshals taking photos and not watching his area. 2 marshals having a discusion as whether or not to move a group of spectators with 2 kids from a very dangerous position next to a hay bail chicane. They didn't want to "upset" them by asking them to move. So I went over to them and asked them to move back up a banking. They did so without any complaining and once the first car went through were probably glad they did. I know it's a thankless job, and events can't run without them. But can you imagine the consequences of a car hitting that group.
dougster Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 You should read some of the threads on the britishrally.co.uk site!! I felt some points were OVER marshaled with inexperienced headless chickens (some with chicks) running about the middle of the road!
colzo Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 ..............and some are just full o the swally!!! Know what you mean saw a few people with 'carry outs'. 1st stage on saturday we were standing next to 4-5 guys with their Stellas, FFS I`d just finished my breakfast! []
RA Dunk Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 You should read some of the threads on the britishrally.co.uk site!! I felt some points were OVER marshaled with inexperienced headless chickens (some with chicks) running about the middle of the road! marshalls are getting it big time over there [:S]
jamesm Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 ..............and some are just full o the swally!!! Know what you mean saw a few people with 'carry outs'. 1st stage on saturday we were standing next to 4-5 guys with their Stellas, FFS I`d just finished my breakfast! [] I remember a couple of years ago on the Snowman there was a group out at Rogie at about 10am with the alcopops absolutely off their faces. The marshals were having to drag them back before the arrival of each car. Problem with the Jim Clark is that there are so many casual spectators who see this one rally a year and are just not able to se the danger they are in. I didn't go to Langton as I anticipated that with it being the only stage of the night it would be chokka, and that appeared to be the case. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> There are a lot of comments on britishrally.co.uk about the marshalling but fair play to the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Marshalls on the stages I was at ( Bothwell 1 & 2, Edrom 1 & 2, Eccles and Swinton 1 & 2) as I thought they were pretty spot on. Didn't see the kids with the bibs on at Swinton but I did find this at the Granite and last years McRae where the marshalling was just farcical. Someone really needs to put their foot down on that issue. Much as you are their as a volunteer, the job needs to be done properly. If you want to spectate and take photos then don't be a marshal I like just spectating but I have always thought about marshalling of a few events but just never been convinced give the amount of marshal bashing that seems to go on. Might yet manage to download the photos!
