And then there was ..... quiet?

Fitted the H+S exhuast bung last night and now the roar is somewhat subdued. By somewhat I mean LOADS.

We got a sound pressure meter and tested without the bung first. At 6 foot range holding the engine at about 5k it was 116dB!

With the bung in place it's only 101dB, which is a huge improvement.

So with the bung in place you can quite happily sit on the motorway at 85%-90% without feeling like your brain is trying to escape out your ears. Huge improvement and with the low boost mode it makes it a good daily driver.

Then with a 10mm spanner and a bit of wiggling I can well and truly bring the noise [;)]

Only giving it 85-90% on the motorway, are you going soft in your old age ?[;)]
Sounds like it! What's the point in having the noise if yer gonny bung it!

The BIG question is "Has the performance suffered with the Bung up your back end?"

I know that mine did! [;)]

Never tried it on my exhaust though![6]

You'll notice I never said what the 85%-90% was of did I?

Performance wise - yes it doesn't appear to spool as quickly as before. But the bung is for during the week when going to the station and not bringing attention to myself.

It'll definitely be off for any runs, trackdays etc. etc.

Firing up the car at 7am to head to the station wasn't the best thing in the world with the full decat and megaphone back box.

But rest assured I'll not be turning up at knockhill or runs or anything with any sort of bung in place.

Oh and the sound pressure meter could probably be borrowed for a bit of testing [;)]

Edit: Colin it's not mine, but my mate Paul who helped out with drilling the backbox has it. I'll have a word and see if I could borrow it.

Stephen - do you have your own db meter? Would like to know how loud mine is to avoid getting black flagged at certain events.

Aye yours would be big hitter as well.

Dont think this years Miss Iowa has a db limit or is it another event you are talking about

Sorry Grant, you're getting confused.

It was last year I entered Miss Iowa. There was a fair bit of noise but no black flags thankfully.
