colzo Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Both front Bridgestone 070s (10,000 miles) have worn more on the outer edges than anywhere else on the tread, is this because the tracking is out or is it my style of driving (fast cornering)? I`m upgrading to 18s soon so wondering if I should get the tracking done to be on the safe side.
gus the bus Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Colzo, its the shitey Subaru Geometry settings (standard) that fack the tyres. Too much + camber. Get them reset to fast rd or Group N which will cost you £50 @ either Hypertech or Progrip which are in the same industrial estate in Bonnybridge. Falkirk Gus
scoobaroo Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Give Duncan at Hypertech a bell, will be able to set your geometry up for you. It makes a big difference [Y] Marty.
the squiggle Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 ......or Pro-grip in Bonnybridge Agreed that it is the std geometry settings that are guffing the tyres
st3ph3n Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I didn't realise there was a standard geometery setting. I thought it was just a visual check between two guys at the factory. "All pointing in the right direction?" "Close enough!"
big den Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I have exactly the same on my two front RE70's on my STi after 5.5K miles. Thought it was my driving style aswell. Is it worth having the geometry reset to fast road / grp N on the standard STi springs? Not sure I'm bothered about changing to Prodrive or Eibach springs. Den
gus the bus Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Is it worth having the geometry reset to fast road / grp N on the standard STi springs? IMHO I would deffo say yes even without the spring change. Although the spring change will make A LOT of difference. Gus
st3ph3n Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I ran prodrive geometery on standard WRX springs. All I changed was the droplinks at the time. Results: totally different car. For the better obviously.
colzo Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Cheers guys, don`t want to ruin another set of tyres. The car is feeling mega twitchy at the moment and tram lining more than I would expect. Did Pro Grip do the work for Hypertech in the past?
gus the bus Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Did Pro Grip do the work for Hypertech in the past? Yip, they certainly did. Gus
dram300 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Two different tyre dealers told me edge scrubbing was an artifact of having PAS. Seems they get a lot of makes with the same problem. They said tracking will help a bit, but that driving in straight lines would probably make a bigger difference !!! Rules out most of our roads then.
st3ph3n Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Tracking and geometery are not to be confused. Get it in for a full geo setup somewhere good and your car will be transformed.
