scoobaroo Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Are we about to get hammered again, and by how much ????? [] This "passion" of ours seems to be costing us more and more each time the budget comes round. I for one cannot see it getting any better in the future [:'(] What do you people think ??????? Looks like we should enjoy what we have at the moment, as very soon it will become a pastime for the wealthy elite. Bureaucracy and Tax are not my favourite subjects [:@] Marty.
RA Dunk Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Quote What do you people think ??????? were about to get F****D!!!! yet again [N]
beastie Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 just renewed my roadtax for a year "just in case" [] lets face it, it will only go up.
STi_Bandit Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Oh well looks like to get the best out of my high gas gussler it will be getting a full decat as a protest at this, utter joke. Bandit
craig79 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Think the words from the the BBC website were something like; the highest polluters will go upto £400 - i'm reading this as band 'G' cars will feel the pinch. My motors a band 'F' so take anyone in the same grouping or less won't see an increase then (well puzzled) ??. Craig.
jamesm Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 As far as I can gather cars registered between 2001 and 2005 fall into band F, which goes up from £190 to £205, then £210 and £215 in the following years. Cars registered 2006 and after are in band G, which goes from £210 up to £300, then £400 in the following two years. Not sure about pre 2001 cars.
sti pretender Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 We STI boys (and girls) are getting humped Band G >225g/km this year goes up from £210 to £300 and from April 2009 to £400.
thewelsho Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Yeah, it's an outrage, it really is. With an 06 car registered after April 06, I am in top Band G. Can't belive it man. On the plus side though, a 2p cut on the basic rate of income tax will mean a saving of several hundred pounds in the year.
plsteve Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Its getting expensive to drink drive though [], another 2p on fuel and 1p on beer. [][] Of course I am joking. The tax cut I think may be a little misleading with the abolition of the 10p starter rate - however the high earner rate being increased to £43k is good news [] Steve.
kloon Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Ok can someone put all this into layman's terms for a thick MY00 Uk Turbo owner. i.e. what's the increase for me ? [:$]
colzo Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I`ve just taxed mine (£190 for the year 05STI) so I take it I`m in Band F, so I`ll stay the same? [*-)]

Of course, yes, it is misleading over all. But for me, its a real saving. Just means that pooer people are funding what I save; not that that is a good thing.

No one is staying the same in terms of costs, but no cars are changing bands. I think if you are in F you will avoid the £400 hammer, but you will still have the other rises next time you buy your RT, which is about £20 or something.
plsteve Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Quote Ok can someone put all this into layman's terms for a thick MY00 Uk Turbo owner. i.e. what's the increase for me ? [:$] I think this is correct - however, I'm not 100% sure Any car registered before 1st March 2001 pay either £110 or £175 depending on whether the engine is above or below 1549cc For cars registered on or after 1st March 2001 tax is worked out by CO2 emissions - the highest being group F which is £190 for 12months. According to todays budget this will increase to £200 immediately then by another £10 over the next 2 years. So by 2009 it will have increased to £210. for cars registered on or after 23rd March 2006 there is an additional group G - this is the one that will be hiked to £300 this year and £400 for the following year. So unless you have a car under 1 year old you will not notice much difference, I just checked my 2005 WRX300 and it fell into group F [] I found a handy VED checker on Parkers - <html> http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/ved/ </html> I hope this clears some things up! Cheers Steve.
Alan-G Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Welsho, Checkout the VED calculator above ! I did, my car seems to still be in the F range and not G - so it looks like we both don't have the £300 - £400 hammer blow ! Thanks Steve BTW [Y]
st3ph3n Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 STIs are G, WRX are F. Officially that is. Some of us are maybe ...... less environmentally friendly? Teeeheeeeheee.
Alan-G Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Sti's are wallet unfriendly it would seem. Nae luck at all Mr Welsho... Noticed ALL Tribecas are G as well. Need to checkout the guide again for a new Forester as that what Fab 1 wants next (a Freakin XTen into the bargain .. []
zeolite Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Thanks for that guys. I hadn't paid any attention to road tax before and had no idea what band my cars were in. In essence unless you have a band g car it isn't going to hurt much. 2p on fuel as well mind. As for the income tax, I just did some calcs and by getting rid off the 10% bracket it means that the more you earn the better it will be. I will be £50 better off. however the upper band is going to changed in 2009 and that means fair amount better off for those that earn over £43k although NI payments are going up as well. Confused? you soon will be.

I used the Parker's calculator and it put me in the F Band at £190 which is what my tax is now. However, my WRX was registered AFTER the 23 / 3 / 06, which means I'm a Band G, also my g/km emmissions is 244 which is well over the Band G threshhold of 225. So I'm still totally confused. [:S] Anyone shed light on this?

Yeah well, you better go plant a forrest to offset your new carbon footprint, even though carbon emmissions have bugger all to do with climate change!
