scooby-girl Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 HI I'M WANTING TO IMPROVE THE ROAD HANDLING ON MY02 STI PPP BUGEYE BEFORE I GET THE GEO SETTINGS DONE HOPEFULLY IN A FEW MONTHS TIME. ANY IDEAS? ALSO I WAS THINKING ABOUT GETTING IT LOWERED BUT NOT TOO SURE[8-)] JEN[]
johnnyr6 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Why? is the handling bad? If it is you may have a prob somewhere as scoobs handle well even in standard trim. If it's just a case of wanting more then there's loads you can do. It all comes down to what you want really, A still comfy car but just a bit tighter feeling or pure track spec with coilovers and polybushes etc. all round. I presume thats a bit far so to start with uprated, lowering springs of good quality will help (eibach etc.) This will still give a fairly comfy ride. Uprated rear droplinks and antiroll bar are also worth doing. Then geometry set up and away you go. Speak to cusko kid on here, top bloke, top whiteline goodies and he can head you in the right direction. Johnny
gus the bus Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Jen, As Johnny has already stated.I can highly recommend a full whiteline set-up. Just got my car done[Y] Geo (Cusco Kid) will give you great prices on everything you need. Springs, drop links, front n rear ARB, anti lift and steering rack bushes. That along with your strut braces you already have will sort it out very nicely. Difference is phenomenal.[] Gus

I already have Teins and droplinks, what are the other main additions? ARB? AntiLift Kit?
gus the bus Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 John, best speaking to Geo but front ARB and rear ARB are roughly £105 each, steering rack bushes are £20 and anti lift I think was £100-105ish too. Gus
GaryD Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I've just uprated most of the suspension on my bugeye sti this week. Fitted prodrive springs, whitelines arbs & droplinks on both the front and back, steering rack bushes and front and rear strut braces. The car handles completely different, much much better! The only other thing I want to do is the anti lift kit, but just couldnt afford it at the moment, will get that done next time! Will hopefully have the geometry settings sorted tomorrow, just in time for the run on Sunday! Would speak to Cusco Kid for Whitelines kit, thats where I got my stuff from, definately recommend him!
gus the bus Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Gary, Anti lift is deffo worth doing once you get enough candy together[Y] Geo (Cusco Kid) did a great job. Gus
GaryD Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Gary, Anti lift is deffo worth doing once you get enough candy together[Y] Geo (Cusco Kid) did a great job. Gus Cheers Gus, defo will be getting it in the not to distant future, just couldnt stretch this month!
scooby-girl Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 HI Johnny The handling is dodgy sometimes! Don't know if it's the winter tyres or what the Subaru dealer did to it, or if something is just wearing? Jen[]
scooby-girl Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 cheers everyone! I'll have alook at prodrive springs and whiteline stuff! Does anyone know if T&C in ABERDEEN would fit this lot and how much they'd charge and while i'm there they could do the geo settings! sorted! Jen[]
frank c Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Geometry is a good place to start as the Standard set up is pants and not always accurate. I think the Prodrive settings were rushed through aswell , was told they're not spot on either. Better getting your own settings done.
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I run prodrive geometery, Tein springs and Whiteline droplinks. Oh and Cusco strut braces, front and rear. My car handles much much better than standard, for what has been a reasonably cheap exercise.
fai17 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Cusco Kid is your man to get whiteline gear from[] Get your Alignment done too as standard setup is crap.....
gus the bus Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Get your Alignment done too as standard setup is crap..... Aye agreed! it feathers the outer edge of your tyres. pure pash[N] Jen, your local garage on Skye should be able to fit the Whiteline stuff tbh. Gus
the squiggle Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Please do not take this the wrong way but sell the Bug and buy a classic
steven_williams Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Have got Tein Flex & EDFC, Whitline F&R ARB, ALK, Rack bushes, Rear subframe lock bolts, Power flex bushes replacing everything else and the usual front upper & lower and rear strut brace on my Bug STi. Handles really well even when having great fun just need the confidence to push it harder. The only bushes yet to change are the diff mounts should be fun. If you are interested AWD Perth have a open day in April advertised on here and last year the whiteline demo car was there nice to travel in.
spooks Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Please do not take this the wrong way but sell the Bug and buy a classic Yeh always wondered why these are "superior" when the body has more flex and less rigidity?
