ed-209 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Had a really bad day today. It involves a speed hump and a front splitter/spoiler This is the problem they resurfaced the carpark but then put a dip down then the ramp up with a speed hump at the start of it. This is another car going down the dip then up the ramp. Lots of people have hit it and some poor sod is now leaking oil. You may want to turn away now. I have contacted the Cumbernauld town center management and told them I will be claiming under their public liabilty insurance as they have not put up any warning signs or speed restriction signs before the speed humps so have failed in their duty of care to the general public. The town center staff who I spoke to at the time (to get the town center management telephone number) says this happens all the time. So they already know it's a problem. Just in case anyone thinks I was going to fast I was doing less than 10mph with a cracking witness "a retired traffic officer". So does anyone know a very good bodyshop.
the squiggle Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Now thats a sore one boss Hope you get them bang to rights big style Now where was the car park as i need my front splitter repaired?
Guest CRAIG DILLON Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 oh thats nasty, could have been worst tho thats what happend the my 300hp corsa, because it was lower at the front as i went over the hump it smashed my sump. i took it to court and i got awarded £450 well chuffed

st3ph3n Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I grounded mine in Edinburgh yesterday in a car park but no damage thankfully. Let us know how you get on Ed, it looks like just about any car going through there would have trouble.
thefastone Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 My bro keeps grounding out his front splitter on his Corrado, never seems to do it much harm like, I suppose its just a case of how much you do it... well I say keeps... its not been on the road for DONKEYS!!!!!!!! lol! Bad news on the speed bump dude, hope you get it sorted and the cooncil dont try to wriggle there sorry asses out of paying out.... If they are anything like AaaaaaaaAAAaaaaberdeen city cooncil your buggered! []
Alan-G Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Nice one Grant. That is a sore one though mate. No speed bump signs = the council won't win. push it! And when they resist (arrogant b'stards that council workers are) Push it again, and again. I had a bill form **** ******** council and it took 5 months before they dropped it. It was over £1k. They gave in eventually.
corsa Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I had a bad day as well last week when some to$$er came over a bridge,on the wrong side of the road while i was stationary!! giving him the right of way and crunch,Vectra requires some new bits.
marky.t.s Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I know that carpark well Ed,seen/heard many a car scrape the bumps up there, luckily mine hasnt got a low splitter, but i can always here my mudflaps scraping over them, hope you get it sorted soon mate. scoobymark Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 recognised the picts straight away, cumbernauld town centre. that car park and ramp has been closed for months for refurbishment of the car park etc, must have forgot to fix the speed bump.[:@] claim them all the way!

ed-209 Posted February 11, 2007 Author Posted February 11, 2007 Thanks for all the coments still need the name of a good body shop/repairer, did some checking on the dept of transport website http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tpm/tal/tr...g4117?version=1 "Humps must not be constructed on any bridge or other structure such as a subway, inside a tunnel, or within 25m of such a structure or tunnel. The reason for these restrictions is the risk of structural damage caused by vehicle impact, or increases in impact loading. " "Traffic signs are required to warn of the presence of a road hump of series of humps. They may be accompanied by plates indicating the distance over which the humps extend, or the distance to the first hump. It should be noted that traffic signs to Diagram 557.1 must be illuminated during the hours of darkness. To improve the conspicuity of road humps two triangular road markings are required. These vary in size according to whether the hump has a round or a flat top. Edge of carriageway markings are specified for both tapered and full-width humps." Will be taking time off work tomorrow to chase this.
scoobymark Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 A good body shop repairer is a guy called Billy Hutton, from milton of campsie, it is a father & son business and billy does an excellent job, resprayed my sti front end to get rid of stone chips for 500 quid, including taking bonnet and bumper back to primer. Result was 1st class. He is a bit busy and you don't get the luxury of a courtsy car but great value.
colzo Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Sorry to hear about the damage to your car mate, yet another reason not to visit Cumbernauld Town Centre!
marky.t.s Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 steady on mate,i could think of worse places to visit, besides, your exhausts sounds f'kin awesome in that bit of the carpark[]

Agree with you there m8, sounds amazing when you pass through that part of the carpark, but remember and slow down quickly coz there is a well dodgy speed bump at the bottom of the ramp[] mark
jamesm Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Sorry to hear, at least it looks only cosmetic. With the oil there it appears pretty lethal. Grew up in Cumbernauld and my parents still live there, so know the place well. Not been in that car park for years though.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

[] i know what you mean Colzo, hope the new part they are building looks a bit better. I must admit if you look at those bumps a bit closer i'm sure they are structural rather than actual speed bumps, still,a warning sign should have been in place.
