thewelsho Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Anyway, Gus ma man, any joy with the de-cat section for my Hawkeye? Not as yet john! I believe revolution are doing one for your car now tho!!! Gus Seen it mate, but at £120! That's a fair chunk more than the one "sold" me. Lovin the de-resonated centre section though, magic!
golfdaft Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Where will he get one of those?? So he needs a deresonated section as well for extra noise?? Cheers
st3ph3n Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 The 3rd cat delete wont do much for the noise, but replacing the resonated centre section with the unresonated one will. I've got that hooked up to a hayward and scott jap slash backbox and it's DAMN loud.
golfdaft Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 So let me get this right for him... Centre de-cat = About the same noise Pipe to take out resonated piece = Louder Correct...?? Gus I touch goats...
darryl_martin Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 First thing I did to mine was replace the centre section. Mines a MY03 wrx with PPP. Was going to do the cat pipe your mate has, but on closer inspection it turned out I had one, just had the heat shields still on it so it looked like it still had the cat!! Unresonated centre section makes the car a little louder, more burbly than all out volume and a few pops on over run. Sounds much better (IMHO) than the standard PPP set up but don't expect to shatter windows or deafen your neighbours, it's quite subtle, but it's there[] Previously had a classic and did the same, again with PPP, replaced centre section with decat part, keeping prodrive bbox and sounded[Y]. Then changed bbox for another, and much much louder. Point being (again IMHO) what influences the overall volume the most is the back box. Takin out the cats, resonated bits etc will affect the noise/sound of the exhaust but if you consider the amount of sound deadening stuff in the rear box compared to the rest of the system it kind of makes sense. Keeping the prodrive box on the back should keep it quite civilised
gus the bus Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 So let me get this right for him... Centre de-cat = About the same noise Pipe to take out resonated piece = Louder Correct...?? Gus I touch goats... and replied! btw with the Prodrive Backbox and de-catpipe only slightly increased noise with that and the deresonated centre section it changes the tone not the volume. As PADTWO says its only if you go for a backbox like St3ph3n has that you will notice a BIG noise change. Hope this helps? Gus
st3ph3n Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 GUS, I touch goats! My backbox is a bit on the loud side with the resonator in place. Taking it out certainly deepend the tone, but it kicked it up a wee notch on the loudness too. Particularly at full tilt.
