aaron_mckay Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Well calling on your experience and advice again lads. As title, has anyone used Chips Away? How were they? Would you recommend or avoid? Came out for a quote recently and thinking about letting them loose on car to sort out some stone chips, completely spray front bumper and refurb all 4 wheels. Any feedback much appreciated.
Guest AlanK Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Would be interested myself in this, esp a refurb of my wheels since I kerbed the car today (dont drive when you have the Flu!!)
david_taylor Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I used them for a nasty dent and scratch on my wing. Done a excellent job, would never know it was there. Quite amazing. Plus he filled all the stone chips on my bonnet for nothing. The were very reasonable and I had a good chat with him while he done it. Defo recommend them mate. Dave
thewelsho Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I called them up for a quote to repair a paint chip about 3mm in size. I was told he'd need to see it and couldn't quote me over the phone. I drove in and one of the guys came out. Showed him the chip and he said that he'd need to go and see someone (the boss-guy I assume). He came out and gave me the quote without the guy seeing it, in spite of the fact that he said he'd need to see it. Oh! He wanted £85 plus VAT; so near a hunner notes for a 3mm chip. No thanks! Painted it in myself. Granted not as good as it was the day it was new, but at £100, I can live with it.

They basically repaired my 1 inch scratch(down to the metal) then resprayed the whole wing for £78 for me. I had a quote from a bodyshop of £200 to fix it at the time.
the blue dragon Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 ive got my own valeting business and a coupkle of my customers have used chips away , with varying reports, one said he thought they had done a brilliant job and price not too bad , the other said they were cr*p, price was steep and wasnt happy with their attitude in general. why not try bodymaster, thats the one i recommend to any of my customers. they are also mobile and will give you a quote on inspection, but can also give you a rough idea of cost without seeing. iain
martin_allen Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Just a point Chipsaway is a franchise so service levels and quality will be down to how good your local rep is. One in edinburgh (for example i have no idea) might be rubbish but the glasgow one might be brilliant. The guy who does the falkirk area sounds good. i spoke to him but didn't use him. Chipsaway are going to do minor dent removal soon but this guy hadn't got the kit so he called to say he couldn't take the work and recommended a few companies that might. Fair do i thought. 5t.
aaron_mckay Posted January 12, 2007 Author Posted January 12, 2007 Have to agree, the guy in Falkirk area does sound good, so i think i might bite bullet and go for the work. Will obviously post a report once its all done! Thanks for the help guys. The blue dragon, I touch goats again!

Well no, but you got a whole wing painted for £78, so a tiny chip should be a bit less that a ton, don't you think?

He really does a good job and explains everything he is doing. Welsh - Like the other posts I take it the Glasgow rep is not the best. Should come to central and use that one! []

Unless there are two reps out of the central belt doing the Glasgow/Falkirk/Stirling area?
