Unabomber Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Hello from America. I'm a Subaru owner in the US Navy who will be making a trip over to Faslane, Scotland in April. I just wanted to see if there any Subaru owners in or around Faslane that would take pity on a poor Subaru owner without his car. I'd like to meet as many local owners as possible as Subaru owners tend to be the nicest people around. I'd like to know where to go or avoid around Faslane, what the weather will be like in April, drive someone's Euro Subaru , and things like that. Once I get closer to the date, I can PM some people with specific dates/times for my arrival. I'd do so now, but the Navy likes to change things as well as the whole security issue. If anyone does have any advice as to maybe where in this forum to post for better responses or where to go in Scotland, PLEASE take pity on my as my geography of your country is about nil, so please explain locations with as much detail as you can. My car: Look forward to meeting some of you! Ron
frank c Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Welcome to the Forums Ron. Your in the right place. I'm sure you'll be overwhelmed with responses and helpful infomation very soon. Keep in touch Frank ps; where did you hear about the Site ?
G.Mac Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 there are plenty of us and the roads are excellent, im sure we will be able to get you along to a glasgow meet (first thursday of every month) or put on a wee run for you. to give you an idea of the roads close by heres a wee video clip from Top gear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF-d9qYafus Graeme
mctwistuk Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 i live near faslane. Give me a shout when your coming over and i will take you out for a spin. Chris
Unabomber Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 I found this place via scoobynet and a search there let me to this site. While I never really had reason to visit foreign Subaru websites, I like to keep a running mental total on them. Since I'm in the Navy, I actually have a chance to visit some overseas Subaru owners. In fact, latter this year I should be doing a cruise in the Mediterranean and hope to meet some owners over there. In particular I have a bunch of Greek Subaru owners that are dieing to meet up with me which is cool. Thanks for the video link, but I'll have to watch it as home. I'm at work right now and our dumb server blocks out youtube. [:'(]
the squiggle Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Hello there and welcome to our loony bin Last year we entertained a couple from Washington DC with a cocophony of Scoobs heading round the Pentland hills Faslane is not that far from Glasgow so i am sure we can get a few cars together and Faslane is also damn close to some excellent bits of tarmac. We have some top spec cars close by like a 600bhp UK Very High Spec Classic, 420lbs/ft Classic WRC spec STI RA piloted by ex-sniper, WRC bodied New Age piloted by a Jesus lookielike and a couple of 2.2 and 2.3 cars running decent spec and nice turbos. We have practical load luggers and JDM cars by the dozen including some rare early models So depending how you like your Scooby, we can cater for your taste except if Flamer Kits and Neons are your thing then you got the wrong forum. If you Kahuna's are large enough then we might persuade Wilky to let you sit in with him up the Loch Long road
Unabomber Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 Will do Chris. Not sure if there is any interest or not, but is there anything I might bring anyone from America that is impossible to find online or is a pain to get? Mind you I cannot bring over a carbon fibre bonnet or anything like that...
st3ph3n Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Welcome to the forums Unabomber. We need no excuse to visit the roads round the back of Faslane for a bit of fast road action. It has been mentioned that the Glasgow region meet on the first Thursday of the month, but I'm sure we could have another one at a different date if it doesn't suit you. Come that time of year there might be track or drag action too, we'll know when the various locations post their timetables. Keep in touch on the forums and let us know when you get your exact dates and we'll make sure you get to see some of the best driving roads in the world.
micra_wrc Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Hi Ron, you've found the right forum for some scooby fun in Scotland [] if you let any of us know when you will be here and for how long we'll try and get a few of us round to take you out for a spin
Unabomber Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 I've never been accused of liking neons or flame kits. For those that don't recognize my username, I'm one of the moderators on www.nasioc.com and I'm also a feature write for Subiesport Magazine. If you get and read Subiesport, I've written two articles so far. One on Turbo Upgrades (featured a picture of a twin turbo WRX) and this month's issue will be on limited slip differentials. In my local area, there are mostly mild upgraded cars, but there are some killers too. One is the twin turbo WRX built by my buddy Kienan Weber. Another is Shawn Lozy's car: This was one of the first reverse manifold Subarus in the world as well as one of the first into the 11s back in 2002. The car is still on the road and last I heard his goal is 700 to the wheels. As for me...mines nothing special, but I am putting 250WHP down on the stock WRX turbo making it one of the most powerful in America. With any luck, I'll be shooting for more with my next tune. Oh and I have a PPG gearbox which is all the rage over here. So I like to rev it up to 6000 RPM and side step my clutch.
RA Dunk Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 a couple of tidy looking motors there m8, almost went for a PPG gearbox recently as well but got a deal on something else instead [] 700 to the wheels would be a fooking monster []

Member of nasioc myself, excellent place for advice
st3ph3n Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Read subiesport a few times, it's very good. I think the Glasgow Regional Organiser is a subscriber actually.
Unabomber Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 Here's one of the graphs for the twin turbo 2.0L WRX Notice how it has a very un-Subaru-like curve. It's more of a test platform than anything though, but it did put down 12.1@115MPH on the 1/4 mile on a slipping clutch. So far the guys in Off Topic on Nasioc have suggested seeing the Glasgow Opera House and the Glasbow School of Art and I guess Fingal's Cave is really nice. They also recommended eating haggis like I knew they would. BUT.....I'm skeeerd of haggis, so don't bother suggesting I try some.[:|]
st3ph3n Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Good numbers. I take it that's WHP? I really like how you guys just measure everything at the wheel, no pissing about with drive train losses. Fingal's cave is on staffa which is a fair distance away from Glasgow. As far as Glasgow itself is concerned then the opera house they speak of must be the "Armadillo" at the SECC. Glasgow is a cool city, and Edinburgh is worth a visit as it probably has more tourist things to cover. It depends on how much free time you have.

jodie typeRA Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 yeh get some haggis iff you can catch 1 that is. for a thing with 3 leggs there faster little buggers[][Y] welcome to SIDC
marky.t.s Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 I was wandering if you still need a special handlers licence to transport Haggis offshore Ac!d.I dont know how you guys can do without for a month.I heard somewhere that new EU rules were restricting travelling times of the little critters depending on how many are in one crate etc. I suppose its some animal welfare thing!!!!! Brussels has a lot to answer for if you ask me!!! cheers, Mark.
Unabomber Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 Wikipedia already clued me into the the whole "haggis creature". It's similar in nature to the American snipe hunt. []
ally-b Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Read subiesport a few times, it's very good. I think the Glasgow Regional Organiser is a subscriber actually. Cue me [] I certainly do subscribe to Subiesport magazine and I've often thought of taking a pic of the Glasgow/Strathclyde region , on a meet/run , with a copy of the mag , to send into Subiesport [H] As has already been said - Glasgow area use the roads in this area regularly as they are some of the best , challenging, scenic , quiet (read 'un-policed' )roads in the world . . . . . you are going to be there in our springtime . . . . []. . . . . you are a lucky guy ! Please let us know exact dates of your visit and I'll ensure that we'll make your stay a good one (drop me a PM or email ) Al. PS : Can you get me a silicon turbo inlet hose (Perrin or whatever) for a '00 Impreza turbo []
