Dougie C Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Just back from the Lothian's Santa Cruise and was my 1st Santa Cruise and what a great day especially with the weather which was good for us all!!!!! Firstly, want to thank Spooks and Rosie for the organising of a great event! Especially arranging to go to the Sick Kids and the shopping spree which unfortunately I couldnt go due to my leg. Secondly, Thanks to AlanK who decorated my car and put the stickers on my car. (even though they were a bit of from being straight hehe!!!) Thirdly, Thanks to all that helped me with the wheelchair in and out of the car at the hospital and then when we went to get something to eat. Much appreciated. Last but not least was great to meet Scoobyiain and Alison who made it from Montrose. Great day especially to see the kid's faces when Santa (neofox) visited the wards. Definately a great day for us all to be proud of. Sick Kid's Hospital has certainly changed since I was a little boy [] Will post up photos soon. Dougie C
Guest AlanK Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Secondly, Thanks to AlanK who decorated my car and put the stickers on my car. (even though they were a bit of from being straight hehe!!!) [] Vauxhall's have squint windows [] If someone could clean up the tinsel scattered along Edinburgh Bypass after I left the pub tho that would be appreciated [][] Was a great day out and thanks for having me along to see what it was all about!! - Look forward to helping out myself next year! Was weird walking about Sick Kids - must have been 15 years since I was in the place but a lot of memories came back. - Certain what you guys have done will make a BIG difference to the kids stuck in there at this time of year!! AlanK
st3ph3n Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Well done everyone. Lot of hard work from a lot of people to make it all happen, but it was all worth it. Sorry I couldn't be there but had other plans this morning.

micra_wrc Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 just back from the Edn santa cruise. well done to everyone that got involved, the pile of presents we delivered were awesome. The nursing staff were very grateful for the range and the quality of goodies we brought [] we were lucky with the weather - clear skies and not a hint of rain, such a difference from the Gla event. the soggy tinsel I had left over from last week was put to good use, eh Brian and Gus [] bit of a detour to get to the place we were going for lunch but it was a nice place - que the pouty lips from those that didnt get to order dessert! need to wash my car soon, its soo grubby []
scoobyiain Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Well been back for a while now, been busy getting some other things done. Was a 230 mile round trip for myself and Alison and worth every one. Just arrived on time after getting lost lol and had time to get some decorations on my car too. Was very nice putting faces to all the names and was a very good turnout. Can't believe all the prezzies you guys bought, there was loads []. Never came for a meal after as we were both very tired from being up at 6 in the morning and Alison had horses to see to when we got back. This was our 1st santa cruise and can safely say it will not be our last. Weather was spot on too although roads were a bit messy on the journey so will need to spend all day cleaning my car. Well done to everyone involved give yourselves a pat on the back

spooks Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Just a thank you message to all that took part in this event not only today but those that helped throughout the year. To knick a line from Lou Gehrig "today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth", for having the help from ya'all. On a more personal note I cant thank Dastek enough for helping us raise our funds, 4Hero and Ian for making the stickers, Rose for putting up with me and all Lothians members that listen to me rant and moan all year long. Day went well, the staff and kids were so appreciative for everything, I swear no one can do this and NOT be touched and moved. It all ended well with Dougie C's suggestion of lunch in Bush farm Inn, and once we all found the place (lol) we all had a great laugh. Id post pics but I use IE7 lol Guys and galls alls I can say is Well done and thank you all Scott
Neofox Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Crikey! Well that was a fantastic day. A huge thanks has to go out to Rosie and Scott for all their hard work and organising and of course to everyone else who helped them out. To say I was nervous on the morning was an understatement what with thinking I was lost and then leaving my phone in my flat things didn’t start out great! Thx to my girlfriend for keeping me calm. But alas we came across a motley looking bunch at the side of the road and new we were in the right place [] Changing into a Santa suit at the side of a busy road is one of those must do before you die things, the reactions were hilarious. Then driving through Edinburgh fully kitted up and decorations on the car certainly turned a few heads and got some waves and smiles. But the real smiles came in the wards, it was so nice to see the kids eyes light up and the appreciation from the parents of the children and also the staff, you could see they were truly grateful for any help we could offer. As we get older our focus on Christmas changes but being with the kids certainly reminded me how I felt when I was younger seeing Santa and receiving presents so I know how much they must have loved it. The SIDC wants to pat itself on the back. For a group of people who society labels as reckless and dangerous (i.e. the motorist/motorsport enthusiast) we did something for others, people we didn’t know, but one thing we did know was that with a simple idea we could try and put a little of their worry out of the forefront of their minds and let them have a moment to smile, let them have a moment with their loved ones, we come to think of this time of year as to be all about having fun and enjoying the whole Christmas buzz but that’s difficult when you have an unwell child. A huge well done has to go out to everyone that turned up, it was amazing to see so many people giving support and joining in and I was proud to be apart of it. Superb day one I shall never forget! Ian
st3ph3n Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I might have to paraphrase something you said there Ian in my True Grip article. You summed it all up rather well.
scoobyiain Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 "For a group of people who society labels as reckless and dangerous (i.e. the motorist/motorsport enthusiast) we did something for others, people we didn’t know, but one thing we did know was that with a simple idea we could try and put a little of their worry out of the forefront of their minds and let them have a moment to smile, let them have a moment with their loved ones, we come to think of this time of year as to be all about having fun and enjoying the whole Christmas buzz but that’s difficult when you have an unwell child." Well said mate []
