kev 580
Hi, my 02 wrx sti is in need of new discs and pads in the very near future was looking for some advice on a decent aftermarket disc/pad set up without breaking the bank (too much) I know this question has probably been asked 1000 times, even if you were to give me a link to another thread thanks in advance kev Link to comment
steve_nairn_sti
The general concensus seems to be that Alyn at ASPerformance is the man to get yer brakes from. The price below is for a 2002 WRX but I imagine STi is similar DBA 9 groove discs are around £170 the pair. Mintex M1144's are £90 or DS2500's are £130ish I think. I just ordered some new discs, pads and goodridge hoses and they were at the house within a week. Good service like. Got the brother in law to fit them as I'm offshore so they should be fully run in by the time I get home. Can't wait![Y] Link to comment

Carl Davey
To many rumours of drilled discs cracking for me to take the chance Peter. I have to admit the AP's are good though. Hey Davie, the wheels cost a small fortune in the end but they came good and are the wheels i wanted for the car. [H] If you have the cash spare i'd seriously recommend the AP's. By the time you've bought a decent 'fast-road' set up your wallet will be £400 lighter (quoting Steve): £170 Discs £130 Pads (tried 1144's and didn't rate them, 1155's or DS2500 are ok) £60 4x Braided Lines That's before you've added the cost of fluid, delivery and fitting if necessary. Factor in that they probably won't last even a years worth of enthusiastic weekend driving and suddenly the AP setup seems like a feasible idea. That was how i sold myself the AP's anyway. I was lucky enough to stumble across a Group Buy for them on here which allowed me to buy everything for £1200 minus braided lines and fluid. I already had the braided lines, bought the fluid and fitted everything myself to save further. I'll admit i scraped the bottom of my overdraft to buy them but i haven't regretted it since. Furthermore, when it comes to selling the car i refit the OEM 4-Pots and sell the AP's at less of a loss than the cost of the 'fast-road' setup listed above. [] Speak to Russell Hulme (WUZ on here) regarding a Godspeed AP Brake Kit. He gets favourable rates from Ian, is in Aberdeen and could fit them if you're not that way inclined. Link to comment

Carl Davey
I've just realised you have a Newage STi which will have the Brembos as standard. [:$] Most of what i said still stands although i'm led to believe the Brembos are nowhere near as bad as the 4-Pots fitted from MY99 onwards. Link to comment

Mucho improvementover standard pads but i do have braided lines and dot 5 fluid which helps as well. Asp is the shot as delivery is quick and nice freindly service. Link to comment
st3ph3n
Jim's would have been WRX ones rather than STI. Probably where the difference is. Link to comment
WUZ
Alyn @ AS Performance always get my vote. Ian can do the DS2500 at a good price as well! Russell Link to comment

markymark
DBA grooved disks & EBC red stuff pads, seem to work ok but don"t look as good as the big brake conversions ! a bit cheaper tho [:|] Link to comment
bigal024
Whats everyones opinion of EBC disks and redstuff pads? Cheers, Al Link to comment
markymark
The red stuff pads give off a lot less brake dust so the wheels stay a lot cleaner for a lot longer, handy on gold wheels ! [H] Link to comment
st3ph3n
Never had any problems with red stuff pads ont he WRX. On my third set of fronts and moved to my first set of rears now. Link to comment
