Just been Andy F'd

As per topic just been to Andy's to get the car mapped on Thursday.

What can I say except wow !! After a bit of hassle getting the 18g fitted and adjusting/modifying other parts the car is finally complete. Initial impressions are awesome. Andy ran it through a Dyno power run on his lap top and while it's not 100% accurate due to weight variations etc we pulled out 340bhp and 330 torque.

Andy reckons there's more to come power wise but that the torque level is pretty good, after all, it's torque that pulls you along and not bhp.

I'm well pleased with it and now just need to get a catch can to stop it blowing oil into the outlet.

Andy was expecting about 350bhp but said that the air ratio wasn't as perhaps high as he would normally associate with the level of boost. Fuel etc are all fine.

I'm not claiming to have the fastest Scooby out there but it's probably up there with the best WRX's at the moment. Put it this way, when on the high boost map (1.5bar) it's got enough torque to loose the traction and spin all 4 wheels in 1st. That's on a normal take off too, not revving the @ss off it.

Well pleased [:P]

Thanks for the comments guys.

It's running STI pink injectors (550cc) and a large TMIC (similar in size to the Hyperflow ones at £700). Also changed the plugs to heat grade 7 NGK's, prodrive fuel pump, ported the headers and up pipe, heat wrapped the headers,up pipe and down pipe, replaced whole system for 2.5" bore H&S, put and AndyF 18G on, removed the resonator box under the wing, green panel filter and a Forge BOV. Throw in a few Samco hoses and hey-presto.....

My one seems to do that now, and I wish it wouln't cos a) its rubber off my tyres and :P wheel spin = no goingy forwards. I can't put my foot down in 1st because the wheels just spin.

Annnnnyway, someone yesterday gave me the phone number of a chip/remap guy said it'll cost about 350 and take the bhp to as much.. but I don't know if there's much point.. the torque already feels like armageddon, and I can't find enough road anywhere to unleash it. I thin ka re-map would frustrate me more that I can't drive the beast to any kind of limit. Fun on the track though, sure!

Plus that thing with the wheels, that would probably only get worse.

Question - does a remap help deliver more torque at lower revs? because I think that would make the car more enjoyable to drive on every day journeys. whrer can i read about chipping?

cheers.

A remap and chipping are not the same thing.

A chip will change settings within your ecu to allow you to run more boost for example. It will not be configured for your car, it's a one size fits all. A remap on the other hand is tailored for your car only and while it is more expensive it is the safest and most effective method.

Chris,

next time there's a meet or a Knockhill track day your more than welcome to come out for a "leisurely" blast around a near by B road. It feels awesome and I can't recommend Andy F enough.

I don't know if it will spin the wheels in the dry but it doesn't stop me from putting the foot down when it's wet.

Chips are nonsense on a Scoob, there's no way to tell if it's running correct fuel and air mistures etc and with Scoobs being prone to knock I would say a chip is a very dangerous thing.

Just my opinion.

Very true Graeme,

it's very addictive but for now the power and torque are enough. My car was a standard WRX with PPP and a decat before so I'm up almost 100bhp on that.
