seafar99 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Nearly wiped the car out last night by driving into an effin' loch which had decided to cover the inside lane of a duel-carriageway. I just didn't see it, nada, nothing, now the conditions were bad, but after aqua-planing about i managed to get it together. So has anybody got any recommendations for changing the headlight bulbs? What power etc, and where to buy these? thanks in advance craig.
bigdavie Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 i changed my lights to hid's mate the difference is amazing !! i dont even use my full beam anymore !
Guest AlanK Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Are they a straight swap of do you need a conversion? Dunno why I am asking - I have PIAA lamps but the normal lights are pish for when they are covered!
david_taylor Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I have the xenon HID Bulbs in mine. Definately make a difference, although dont bother with the sidelights as they are rubbish. You can get them for under £7 on ebay. I still drive in unlit roads with the front fogs on if wet though! Here is a link to the guy I got mine from...can recommend him. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-IMPREZA-93-03...oQQcmdZViewItem Dave
JohnSt Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 I use 130/80Watt bulbs in mine, cheap as chips from the car shop. ---john---
bigdavie Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 nah i have the full hid kit 6000k kit like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-H1-H4-H7-9006-HI...1QQcmdZViewItem if your going for a set make sure you get the h4's dont go above 6000k or the light gets bluer also make sure they are e marked for mot time !!
james666 Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 yeah mine are pants too they like pee holes in the snow. but i was told not to use bulbs above the 55/60 or u risk melting the inside of the headlights.
david_taylor Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Thats a lot of money and hastle for a set of lights Davie. Plus the bulbs are Korean, so I take it they do not have the British Kite Mark, and are then illegal. I have already been stopped about mine from the Traffic Feds, but I kept the packaging with the Kite Stamp and they were happy with that.
bigdavie Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 nah they are e marked mate thats all you need !! and its the full wiring harness including the ballasts simply awesome on these crap winter nights !!
Guest AlanK Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Just back from Peebles and I really dont need to do anything - the PIAA lamps are amazing! Perhaps a better alternative?

bigdavie Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 aye billy dipped and main beam !! magic !! especially in this weather ! these are the ones i got billy in a group buy on another site ! http://www.xenonshop.co.uk/index.php?cat=H...88bae76ebb018f8 i know they are more expensive but a few guys had bought from him before and had no issues with them i cannot fully reccomend the seller tho because i waited 3 weeks for my kit to arrive ! but once here a doddle to fit good quality gear and as said before the difference is amazing !!
william_young Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 has your oe wire been ok with them on what ones do you have i was told not to go over 8000k
gus the bus Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Craig, try www.powerbulbs.co.uk you get better quality for not too much money and they are doing 2 for 1 on some items with free sidelight bulbs. Thats where I got mine for the 300. If you put your car details in they tell you what bulbs so you canny go wrong. worth a check. Gus
bigdavie Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 has your oe wire been ok with them on what ones do you have i was told not to go over 8000k yeah the oe control wires are fine !! the kit actually only draws 35 watts instead of the normal 55 watts !! and i have the 6000k kit as it is the closest to white light i could get !

seafar99 Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Thanks for everybody's input, just ordered some Phillips Powerplus H4's from Gus's site above. Buy two get two free......so 4 for £20 delivered, allegedly 50% better than standard. craig.

TheCrow Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Phillips Powerplus? Philips = Vision Plus = free sidelights PowerPlus = Power Bulbs (thought will prob be very same) = free sidelights + free set of PowerPlus
gus the bus Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Phillips Powerplus?Philips = Vision Plus = free sidelights PowerPlus = Power Bulbs (thought will prob be very same) = free sidelights + free set of PowerPlus correct[Y] I actually have the powerbulb ones which I was reliably informed were made by Philips.
